Welcome back! Really enjoyed this. You're very natural on camera and never sound overacripted or awkward, which I love. Hope you're well, and I'm looking forward to more videos.
Haha yeah, my lens has a very shallow depth of field too which keeps the foreground sharp and the background very blurred - it looks nice and cinematic but it also makes objects in the background pretty hard to make out haha
That was such a sweet video😊 I also wanted to make a small suggestion- could you do a video where the lights are dim (just like you switched the lights off in this video or maybe a little brighter than that). Soft dim lights have such a sleepy vibe.
i like your vids - as someone thats blind af (...irritatingly) i found this really realistic, which you don't really see on other asmr videos. anyways, love them - keep up the good work!
How did you know that I’m overdue for my eye exam? Missed you James. Great work capturing the authentic feel of an eye exam. Also wanted to say it was a treat to see you The Gentlemen 2.
As a certified ophthalmic assistant, I approve this asmr experience! I only wanted to correct your technical skills a few (or more haha) times lol. But I got all the tingles and thats what is important 😉 Great job ❤
Haha ooh go on - I’m always interested to hear back about stuff like that! Bear in mind a lot of decisions are made because they read better on screen or are more relaxing but I could definitely use your feedback on how you’d do things IRL
@@JamesMatthewASMR honestly you did great and I could tell you did your research! I was impressed when you checked the pupils, you even did the swinging light test! IRL we will dim the lights when checking pupils, and we'll also ask the patient to focus on an object in the distance. They can have an accommodative response if they focus on something close (like your eye or nose). Also, when you dim the lights to check the health of the back of the eye (fundus exam) that's typically going to be at the very end of your exam. The patient is usually dilated at that time, and we want to avoid all the bright lights (including checking pupils) until AFTER we've done a refraction (better 1 or 2?). Next, the "follow the light" test to check ocular motility... IRL we will use a simple "H" path for the patient to follow. Starting in the middle you'll go over to one side, straight up, straight down, back to the middle, then over the other side and repeat. (I get that following the light is a big trigger, so of course you would want to move it around the screen as much as possible, just passing along the tricks of the trade 😊) IRL I would move the light a little slower because I'm watching to be sure the eyes do not have any restricted gazes. Something I think that would be neat and that I've yet to see on an asmr eye exam is finding a way to simulate checking pressure! Most people think of the puff of air test (we can all agree that's NOT relaxing) but that's pretty old school. We actually check pressure with an instrument called a tonometer or even a tono pen. We dim the lights and it has a soft blue glow. After the eye is numb it rests gently against the cornea for a moment while we read the pressure. The patient gets a bit nervous, so I will usually speak softly or whisper to them to "just look right over my shoulder, breathe nice and easy through your nose, don't hold your breath, you are doing perfect," etc etc. I know you are limited on what types of props you can get a hold of, but its just an idea! That is probably way more information than you cared to know haha. In all seriousness, I loved the video, wouldn't change a thing (unless you came to work with me 😉). I'm fairly new to your channel, and I usually don't get as many tingles from male asmrtists for some reason, but your stuff really does it for me! I'm really enjoying your content, please keep up all the great work ❤ And I'm always here should you need to pick my brain for your next eye exam 😊😉
@@kristenh9609 ima save this on my phone and read it later but THANK YOU in advance - PS if you’re a real optician definitely find a way to sneak a camera into work and ask your boss if you can use the room for an eye test video 😂 I love those real sets - and you’ve got a distinct advantage having access to one! Plus as a pro - I think people will appreciate the realism! I’d watch it, food for thought anyway 😎🥸
@@JamesMatthewASMR I appreciate the encouragement, but I don't think I have the talent or the confidence to do something like that 😳 I am strictly a viewer here lol. I'll leave the creating to the pros! 🙃

Great video! You are an example and inspiration for me in ASMR! You are very cool, James 😎🥰

I really enjoy the sound of going through the lenses. Some time ago, I watched an entire video of an ASMRist going through a vintage set of optemetrist lenses. Magnificent sounds

You have such an awesome soft speaking voice. I am usually quite fussy with soft speaking as it can often be hit-or-miss, but you have it down-pat. This video and the Victorian Sculptor one are personal favourites of mine. Thanks for the amazing content!
Loving how this channel has grown, i even remember the first video of your channel and everyone was just going crazy in the comments saying “Damn i didnt know Superman was doing ASMR❤️👄❤️” and things like that but yeah im genuinely happy on how all of the ASMR channels ive watched are steadily growing 🤌🏽✨ youre one of the OGs my guy
This was so so good!. Definitely the best parts of an eye exam- loved the dark room/light test. Thank you - a great video for the May Bank Holiday here in the UK 😃
Transcending this world. That's how your videos make me feel. Thank you, immensely. For all the hard work, passion and dedication you put into them. Outstanding!!
"I'm James... I'll be doing your eye test today" me: wait, u expect me to concentrate on some letters on the wall with THAT face? nuh uh, sir, I'm failing this, let me tell u that right 👏 now 👏 lol Great one, James. I love the little sounds, the clicking of the pen, the rain, and the soft growly undertone your voice has, very soothing.
Thank you! It’s weird how different mics work for different people - told my friend Dee (the healing room) to try my mics and she really didn’t get on with them. Different rooms, different voices I guess 😀 I love them though Samson CO2s - for anybody who’s interested which model mics I use
He's BACK!! Yay! Loved all of the visual triggers in this but the dark room was my favorite from the lighting in the background alone. I wish all optometrist offices had 🔥 lighting like this. 😆 They're so boring. Thanks, James! Can't wait to see your other videos!!
I just had my eyes tested few weeks ago after not having them done for 10 years... i was born with cataracts in both eyes... had like 5 machines to go on... this is so much more relaxing xxx
I needed this after my shift. Thanks for uploading. I’m very excited about the May schedule. I just found out I am blind af but at least I am relaxed about it....am i the only one that can't get past line 5 😬🙈
You’re not blind aha it’s harshly out of focus because the lens I use has really nice depth of field - don’t worry aha

I feel personally attacked by this comment because literally as I read this, that was exactly me 😂
