[Yugioh] The First Millennium Puzzle that is Made of Brass 遊戯王 千年パズル (3D Printed then Cast)

  • [Disclaimer: This is NOT Bandai’s ULTIMAGEAR Millennium Puzzle]
Back in August 2020, I started learning 3D Modeling and printing to make one of my dreams, a playable Yu-Gi-Oh! Millennium Puzzle, a reality.
I’ve done many pieces of research about the existing models and none of them could match my expectations with how they assemble the puzzle, that was why I decided to create one on my own.
I tried to reach Shueisha (the copyright holder of Yu-Gi-Oh!) for licensing but apparently, they only wanted a big-name company to talk about this kind of stuff. So, I thought I would have to make a good-looking prototype first before talking to them again. (I understood this fully as anyone could just walk in and talk that they can do it, while in reality, not everyone can produce things to be looking properly)
I deciphered references from the manga and finally got my prototype ready to be made with metal casting.
The plan was to make this with brass, and it would cost a lot to mass-produce it, but I think that would be my best option to make it looks closest to the real thing.
I saw Bandai’s ULTIMAGEAR Millennium Puzzle last month as my friend was worried about me doing this project in vain, and yes, the Bandai’s one looks legit.
I have seen the disassembled pieces, and I was sure that the Bandai’s one would answer what I was waiting for. That’s why it’s very likely that I would have to CANCEL my project. However, since I have already made it as far as sending the model for brass casting, I will be posting this journey as a video.
Edited: For anyone asking about the STL files, you can get them here.

when it takes yugi 8 years to solve this but this guy does it in 4 minutes

    • @BloodrealmX
      @BloodrealmX 2 ปีที่แล้ว +46

Yugi didn't even know what shape the finished puzzle was going to be, let alone knew the instructions. And then, of course, the biggest reason being that the Puzzle magically messes with your mind preventing you from solving it. I _assume_ this one doesn't have magical powers, anyway...

    • @MrCandyman1404
      @MrCandyman1404 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

That's why Yugi has double mind and can do things why this guy can only post this on youtube :)

@@BloodrealmX even with his super AI, which can process the information unimaginably faster than human's mind, it still took a very long time - implying it was almost impossible for human to solve (or at least not in one's life time), even without magical power preventing you from doing so (i don't really remember it has this power, but it was still unnecessary).
I think the main reason he could do it was that he was destined to do so - tho I do remember one unworthy person (the black clown old man) who tried to solve it and almost got trapped in the labyrinth. Luckily, he let go of the puzzle in time and got away with his soul.
Note: the original script was that Muto Yugi would be the Blue Eyes wielder instead of Seto Kaiba - they changed it because Seto was much more marketable. It would make a lot of sense, because he would have been the one who shattered the puzzle, preventing the resurrection of Zorc before Atem could be resurrected. And since he would have been the one who did it, he would at least unconsciously recognize its true shape.
I'm glad at least he still showed up in the ceremonial duel instead of Seto tho
Edit: It was later revealed that their fathers were twins, which would make a lot of sense for them to look almost identical (if Seto didn't take the role)
and this would also fix a lot of plot holes, like the true identity of Muto Yugi (which many were led to believe he was Atem's reincarnation - but the 2 separate souls contradict this theory). And Muto Yugi inheriting the throne would also fit the event in the past (where he inherited the throne of Egypt) and in the present where he inherited the title of Yugioh (King of Games)

Man I'm honestly so sad about the Bandai one now after seeing this. The quality and hard work you put into this makes my heart race as we can all see the care and dedication you put into it. While in comparison the Bandai one is...hollow, both physically and emotionally.
That's probably going a bit too far but the evidence speaks for itself. You have all these little pieces and references that their version is going to lack. It's just a model to them to make money off of. Your's? It's an art piece.
Thank you for sharing this with us. You've made over 10k of us feel just a bit closer to the show we love. Rock on man.

I'm not trying to discount all the hard work that went into this homemade millennium puzzle (because it's an *amazing* piece of work for a one-man project), but you couldn't have been farther from the truth with Bandai's Millennium Puzzle. After building it myself, it felt like the closest I'd ever been to stepping into the shoes of a childhood hero's experiences. Bandai's Puzzle is not only amazingly engineered with a very complex build, a tight fit and a very solid end result with the solved Puzzle, but equally as anime accurate with every piece involved. Just because it's made by a big company doesn't automatically mean "thing bad" y'know

Excellent work and an outstanding job for doing this yourself. When the Yu-Gi-Oh cartoon first came to the WB line up of Saturday morning shows I wasn't a fan at first but I watched one episode out of curiosity and when I saw it was about a card game I slowly became hooked on the show. It's a shame that the Millennium Scale didn't get much screen time in the series and that the modern day fated possessor was never revealed but all in all excellent job.

Once every now and then I come to youtube and look for a real metal M. Puzzle just to see if I could ever have the pleasure of seeing it made real and after like 2 years since the last time that I searched, I find this video. You did a good job, especially trying to make the design work while still using references to some of the shape. I don't know if the person that designed the M. Puzzle had an actual functional puzzle design or if they just made some nice looking shapes for the puzzle pieces on the inside, but you made it work. As far as the dents in the final result of the metal working - my personal opinion is that it makes it look even more real even though it was not intentional. If I find an item that is as old as the show makes it out to be, I would expect to see some dents from all it's been through over hundres of years, plus the fact that some of the edges aren't very straight is also something I would expect from a civilzation with primitive methos of metal-working.

That was a very ambitious project, and I think you did a great job! They made it look so easy in the anime, like they just poured the gold into the Millennium Stone and out the puzzle popped. I actually have a project that I'm considering attempting - I have a triangle-shaped leather bag that I want to paint to look like the puzzle, but I need to do so much research beforehand. Watching your video kind of gave me some inspiration into trying it.

I mean, in the anime scene you're (probably) referencing, they poured the gold into a mold (not the Millennium Stone) and it came out as one solid piece called the Millennium Pendant. It was turned into a puzzle after the Pharaoh defeated Zorc and sealed their souls away.

Awesome work, personally I know 3d modeling for mechanical parts (for automation machines) however I don't think I could create parts from a millenium puzzle and that it also resembles a lot the puzzle from the manga.
I like it a lot, personally I don't think the UltimaGear would have the same resemblance to the manga that you achieved. Awesome work!

Additionally, I think you can sell the 3d printed parts or the step files at least if you manage to change any name related.to the franchise.
For example I buy star wars lightsabers replicas that are screen accurate from lightsabers companies but they sell them not relating any information to the starwars franchise. For example they sell Luke Skywalker lightsaber with name likes:
"The Son". And instead of light saber they sell the product just as "saber".
Maybe you could do something like that.
I would be happy to have those step files if you share/sell them

Although, perhaps you can take this as an opportunity to cop - I mean, take inspiration from - their pieces and make a second one using a CNC machine to make the parts if it's possible? That would likely fix your loose pieces issue.
In any case, best of luck in the future!

But what you made is more iconic than bandai' puzzle and your references are much more correct. Congrats for the effort that you put into creating this master piece ! I would suggest you to try print the pieces of the puzzle using a CNC cutting machine instead of molding the brass because you already have the 3d sketches. Just curious, how did the millennium puzzle stay intact all those years? Most people have trouble keeping all the pieces of a puzzle together for a decade let alone centuries or millennium.
Also assuming the millennium puzzle is the size and Design you presented it as, and assuming it's made the same way and out of pure gold it would weigh approximately twice of what you have. And I can't imagine what a 2.3 kg or 5-pound necklace would do to one's neck
