    The 90s was THE era of one-hit wonders. Essentially everyone had a chance in that era, no matter how bizarre or niche their song was. lol. For me the 90s felt like one long summer on the beach. Good times!

    This group is Italian. I was working & living in Milan in the late 1990's when this came out. When asked about the song's meaning in interviews the group said that "Blue" was in reference to the emotional state of feeling low and was inspired partly by their admiration of American Blues music

    • @milesfann33
      @milesfann33 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jeffrey Jey actually says the song is about seeing the world in one color. It's kind of like wearing rose colored glasses but blue in this case. People who only see the world one way. It actually has nothing to do with being sad or depressed but more so about being ignorant and only seeing things one way.

    I love Eiffel 65. Got all their albums including the few that they came out with when they called themselves Bloom 06. Glad they changed it back to their original name. The “da ba dee” part, they say, is just something they liked so they put it in a song. They originally planned their name to be simply “Eiffel”. The 65 part was added by accident. From what they say, it was the last two digits of someone’s phone number that somehow got attached to their name when they went to have their name...I guess finalized.

    • @milesfann33
      @milesfann33 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually, it was the producer of Eiffel 65 (Massimo Gabutti) who wrote the "Da ba dee" part because he wanted the song to break language barriers around the world and allow anyone to sing the chorus no matter what language they speak!

  • @GiullarediDio
    @GiullarediDio 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    The thing to get about 'Europop' (in this case Italian) is that the lyrics are often by people who speak English as a second language, so they can sometimes sound a bit strange/nonsensical.
    Also, some other late 90s dance pop hits:
    ATB - 9pm (Till I Come)
    Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone
    Dario G - Sunchyme
    Lucid - I Can't Help Myself
    Sash! - Encore une fois
    It's a very deep well.

Haddaway, "Smells Like Teen Spirit," Nirvana, "Ballroom Blitz," Sweet, "Mr. Vain," Culture Club, "Tribal Dance," 2 Unlimited, "Hard to Handle" The Black Crowes, "Thunderstruck," AC/DC, "Blow at High Dough," "New Orleans is Sinking," & "Little Bones," The Tragically Hip, "The Twilight Zone," 2 Unlimited, just those for a start and we'd be ready to pass out!! He's basically saying he's depressed (blue) and no-one listens. Everything in his life is blue because it's all affected by his depression. He literally starts the song with "Yo listen" but because the lyrics are set to upbeat music of course most people don't actually "listen" to the lyrics, just the happy music, kinda like how people with depression try to hide it from others with a seemingly happy demeanour....
    The original video also featured a blue alien trying to fit in with the rest of the world....which is how people with depression can feel in life.
    It's quite clever really and it's actually quite deep for euro pop.
