    I know it’s years away. But I cannot wait until I am able to produce the results that I seek.
    I think the hardest part is to push through the “bad”.

    *great* advice at 1:56:15. Surprise the viewer with how something is portrayed. It's the same reason why classical music goes so well with a lot of intense, dramatic cinematography -- the contrast brings interest.

    I liked what you said about nothing being permanent, I had an external harddrive with all my 3ds max files and my sketchbook in a backpack that got stolen. It sucked but it motivated me to draw more. Also, I really liked Dave's Berserk art.

    The entire reason I went to art college was because otherwise I would NEVER find the guidance and knowledge I needed. I discovered art as a profession when I was 17 in my last year of high school and as you guys mentioned, I was so lost and yeah there’s an abundance of information out there I lacked so much information and resources I just needed it.

    To those who wonder if ifs too late for you, remember that van gogh started painting with almost 30 years, and he painted for only 10 years, he became a legend, so remember three rules; 1) its never too late 2) don't burn yourself, it's not race, don't stop but don't rush 3) well obviously don't kill yourself duh

    The whole pixel issue Dave talks about @1:26:18 , where the cintiq pro starts producing red/green/blue pixels, that is actually a product defect and it happens in most of the newer Cintiq Pro lines. I faced the same issue with my Cintiq 16 Pro, had to replace it twice before I ended up with the new Cintiq 16 (DTK1660K0A). And one of the Wacom representatives even admitted to it saying its a design defect. So please dont get the newer Cintiq pro models, go for the cintiq HD
    And if i'm not mistaken Maciej uses a Cintiq 27QHD, which is perfect in everyway possible even thought it was launched years back
    Anywho, this is an amazing talk nonetheless and the stories Dave talks on his Realistic Orc tutorial on gumroad is a must watch too!!

    I am one of those people who always loved to draw but never thought they could get into the industry. I started taking art seriously with 26 and am now 28. Am I too late? I am so afraid of younger people being far better skilled and "taking all the possible jobs". Also, I feel like I am learning very slowly (5hours/day of practise) and should just give up but the artistic fire in myself keeps burning.
    Very nice talk

      keep on working at it! art is always a struggle to make as a career but the more you practice and work on finding your own way within the medium you choose it will become more enjoyable and less like work. I started making jewelry around 7 years ago for fun but started taking it seriously around 4 years ago and now am an apprentice jeweler at 30. The owner of the business brought me own not so much because of my skill but more because of my drive to become better and my natural love for gemstones and jewelry.

    • @Ryngbearer
      @Ryngbearer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Real talk, i think it depends. You can see kids that have no fundamentals blow up on insta and get work because they are working in a style that is easier and works within their skillset. if you start out and choose to walk instead of run, its possible. if your aim is to run before you walk then I think its less likely. Dave sort of mentions this in his talk. I would say also dont spend 5 hours practicing. spend 5 hours working on something that will get you work. practice is great, but it should be a beginning or ending of a process. find a way to LIVE and LEARN at the same time.

    • @dannypavlov913
      @dannypavlov913 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's all in the mindset and approach. I've seen many people who have started at 18-20 and 7 years later have 0 progress and on the flip side I've seen people over 25 start from zero and get to a pro level in 2 years.
      I don't know you so I can't say, but if you're not improving , the problem is in your approach, not your age usually. The younger artists who succeed (in my experience) have this sort of attitude - "I'm gonna become as good as the pros in a couple of years" or whatever, meanwhile you're questioning if you can even get this good in the first place. Are you the person who's gonna succeed no matter what or do you need people to be constantly reassuring you that it's possible to do it? Anyone can learn to paint. Hopefully this doesn't come of rude, I just couldn't think of a better way to express it. Also it's just how I see things, others would probably disagree.

    It's funny, because I was following Dave when he made the switch to drawing and I never saw anything but absolute praise for his stuff. He claims he "couldn't draw" and then was immediately putting out really good drawings that got him immediate industry work... Really obnoxious when people fish for reassurance or praise like that. Sure, maybe one or two people out of thousands told him to "go back to painting" but let's be real here. The dude could draw just fine, and he probably just got tired of painting for a while.
