we are doing this song in honor of our director, who is going to the middle east very soon. As high school students, he is like a second father to us, putting in so much time to get the best out of us musically and personally. He is compassionate, and we will miss him so much. he sang this to us and we couldnt keep from crying, and will be sure to do the same when we perform this in may. This piece is gorgeous.
So happy to find this video - I was also at this performance. They went directly into the Biebl Ave Maria after this piece. Can't remember being so moved by a performance. Truly everyone in the place was crying, and the audience stood applauding and shouting until every single one of those performers had left the stage. Thanks to all of you who gave such a beautiful performance.
I just performed this as part of a quartet yesterday. I'm very impressed with the Cornell Glee Club because this is a REALLY hard piece of music! But I'm really puzzled as to how the chorus moved up a whole step throughout the piece but found their way back to C major at the very end. Did anyone else notice that? Either way, excellent job Cornell!
I think this is one of the most meaningful songs I have ever heard about how hard it is to say "Good-bye" when physical death takes a beloved husband by surprise. It could apply to anyone who anticipates their own, untimely, time of passing from here to eternity
woodwyrm I really hope you're joking but on the off-chance you arent, this is legit a last letter home of a soldier in the gulf war. basically be said To another soldier "listen man if I die give this letter to my family", he didn't make it home, his letter was publicised and here's the outcome
