Great video 50 years ago we ran fancy gap on old route 100 from Mount airy all the way up to I 81 that was quite the grade pulling 46,000 up fancy 5 mile an hour in MO Detroit maximum I remember right it was two lines uphill and one lane down Yeehaw Thanks for the trip down memory lane
@@davidduggins1598 called the green weenie!!! My dad had an earthmover and the rear engine was a 671. Those were and still are bad ass engines with straight pipes and a Jake!
That was pretty cool. I've drove up through there many times, only in a "four wheeler" though. I don't know what it's like in an 18 wheeler, but going up I-81 can be really aggravating when one rig going 3 mph faster than the other and pulls out to pass on a grade and stacks up traffic behind them .. sometimes it can take 5 or more miles to sort things out, only to have it happen again on the next grade. Thanks for the ride-along.

This is a large car! He is passing trucks and they are down shifting. My Dad used to do this and people asked him, “what do have in that thing?” He would respond, “I got a tuned up 350.” He had a big CAT in a Volvo, or at least the body was a Volvo.

I used to climb and go down old 52 in a 1969 Emeryville with a "powerful' 290 back in the 1970's. No fancy Jake Brake back then.

Only time i hated the Fancy Gap drive was when the fog was so thick you could barely see vehicles in front of you.
Bad fog and high winds are pretty bad on that road from what I heard.

the old road is US 52 ... 100 starts in Hillsville and intersects with I 81 in Draper Va.
