Remember once you have do loaded your images from your card (and backed them up) then you need to format the card(s) in camera. As for using Raw vs Jpeg's , well there is only one reason why I would shoot Jpeg's that's if your shooting for a Newspaper/magazine that needs the images straight away. Yes, over editting is a massive no no. As for shooting landscape or vertical do both, cropping reduces your mega pic's , only crop a landscape image when you have to .
