The one Lews I have among a herd of Shimanos, Daiwas and Accurates was a Super Duty Wide Speed Spool from about 2015. It took major abuse, went in the water a few times and landed many big fish on a dozen or more Amazon trips without a whimper. This reel is definitely joining the collection, some cool features and looks a lot like the 2016 Metaniums that are still butter smooth excellent reels.

I have an old hypermag it has a 4pin brake sometimes that isn’t enough I always run mine towards maxed out. It’s good that the new one has a six pin brake.

I picked up the 1st gen HyperMag at Bass Pro for $168.00 before Christmas 😁 Feels great in hand can't wait to try it out...Probablly use on one of my chatterbait/spinnerbait rods. Mine came with the reel seat tape also...didn't work, won't stay in place, I'll try electrical tape instead.

Can you do a video explaining (like a buyer's guide) what to be looking for in them? Or, can we chat on messenger or something? Based on my budget, I'm looking at the tatula line. I do have two, and they've just been awesome. Also, how much you asking for that BB1? That is one of my all time favorite reels. Thanks brother.

Man that’s a nice looking Reel Jim and it looks like a smooth caster. I would think for the 300 dollar price tag that Lews would go with an attached palm side plate that you wouldn’t accidentally drop in the water like a Shimano. I have 2 of the Hypermag spinning reels and they are really good. I would definitely get a few of the casting if they weren't double the price of the spinning....
They are a step above the Custom Pro in every way. I made the mistake of holding the new Hypermag at a local tackle shop. Now I'm considering getting one. Unless I'm missing something, it seems like the best choice compared to the Elite TI and Pro TI. It's $50 less than the Pro, $150 less than the Elite, weighs an ounce less than both and the color is a better match with almost every rod available. It's also doesn't have the same shiny finish....
@@TackleJunky81 I’m used to the tatula ct and Lews speed spool I’m not vary much on the Slx so this tatula elite will be one of my first closer to high end reels

Big fan of lew's here, however, I can tell ya right now that the first gen. Lew's hypermag is the same as the new one, only difference is appearance and handle LOL.
It's better than the original, but it's nothing over a custom pro. It's the same reel as the Custom pro and even with its magnesium frame is only .2 or .3 oz lighter. I love lews but they do gimmicky crap too often. Only the elite Ti has something new, the brakes, at $500 though. The Tournament line amd the custom line are their serious reels.
Haven't been fishing yet this year, so I can't speak on performance, but that Hypermag has some big shoes to fill if it's gonna run with that Zillion...we'll see!
The problem I have is that you can buy a Daiwa Zillion for $10 less, so why would I buy a Hypermag? I have the gen 1 Hypermag & luv it but it doesn’t compare to the Zillion. If the Hypermag was $300 then maybe 🤔 but once you fish with the Zillion there’s a Zillion reasons to not pay more for a Hypermag.

So after a month how do you like it? I love my Zillion but want to try something new. Does this compare at all? Or should I just get another Zillion

Just wish you didn't have to keep oiling the brass brake pad.
