Wurkkos FC13 (2000 Lumens, SFT40) Full Review: A Budget Priced EDC Light with High-End Features

- In this video, we'll look at Wurkkos's new iteration of the FC13. Wurkkos initially released this light with the SFN43 LED, which had mixed reviews and a more floody beam. When I learned Wurkkos introduced an SFT40 model of these lights, I was excited to get my hands on one, considering I'm a big fan of the FC12 with the same SFT40 emitter. This light also comes in a version with the XHP50.2, which has a similar beam pattern to the SFN43. In this video, I also show you how to calibrate the temperature and stepdown limit to ensure your FC13 runs longer on turbo mode. Otherwise, it will reduce lumen output immediately.

Wurkkos FC13 SFT40 Video Transcript
General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality:
• Great value EDC that comes with a huge variety of modes due to the Anduril firmware. It's pocketable at just over 11cm and 25mm bezel. You can customize it to the way you want, and color-changing Aux is just a cool feature I like playing around with! Wurkkos made the right decision to provide an option for the SFT40 in this light, the extra throw is useful to see what's ahead, and paired with significant flood, it's perfect.
LED, lens, bezel, and reflector
• SFT40 in cool white. AR lens, metallic orange bezel accent, and lots of cutouts for increased surface area. OP reflector. I'd be interested to see what the beam would look like with an SMO reflector, but OP leads to a smoother and more balanced beam for general use.
• 2.4A Onboard charging with sturdy rubber port. Emergency power bank function! Why don't you see this on higher-priced flashlights?
UI - modes
• Anduril demonstration - 3 clicks to change ramp mode. Turbo, momentary turbo, moonlight mode, candle/lightning mode, battery check etc.
• RGB Aux lights - the aux mode after rainbow mode displays the battery voltage in color format (4.2V = purple, moves to cooler than warmer colors)
• Advanced: the ability to change the floor and ceiling of the ramp mode. Ability to change temperature cutoff.
Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
• Ceiling bounce test, CCT/CRI
• I opted for the SFT40 version as it runs cooler than the XHP50.2 and throws further too. Temperature regulation reduces output and temperature to sustainable levels. This is a good thing, especially for small flashlights.
• 2.5 hours runtime on high.
Considerations
• This light uses a FET driver.
• You will likely need another high-draw battery for maximum lumens/throw. I'm probably going to modify the tail spring too (spring bypass) to reduce resistance for an extra boost.
Verdict
• This is a budget-priced EDC flashlight, but it comes with many value-packed features you don't see in a light of this price range. Bang for buck, I put Wurkkos in my top 3 'budget' flashlight brands. With the FC13, you get great throw and usable spill, customizable UI, special modes like candle and variable frequency strobe, bike mode, RGB AUX light, the battery is included and it's an emergency power bank too. I like a EDC light with a lighted side switch, makes it easy to find. So these little guys are great for things like walking the dog or taking out the garbage. So I bought one. Inside temp of 76 degree starts ramping down at 20 seconds and by 30 seconds too hold to hold. Conversely, last night in the outside temp of 37 degrees it did not noticeable start ramping down until about 45 seconds. That was stock out of the box, using an Acebeam high performance 18650. Overall for normal EDC use this is excellent.
If you set the step down limit to 60 deg C, it'll last longer on turbo but gets VERY hot!!

My first FC13 was the SFT-40 version in 6500K guise. I liked this little 18650 EDC so much that I decided to order the floody 5000K XHP50B version to make it more distinct from the throwy SFT-40 one.
I noticed that Wurkkos is maintaining a premium price tag for the FC13, probably because it's selling quite well. Although its mean price fluctuates, the FC13 has never been as cheap as its Sofirn counterpart, which I think is the Anduril 2 equipped, SC31 Pro.
On a final note, it seems that neither Sofirn nor Wurkkos has offered Anduril based torches in 2024. So far all their very recent models seem to have simplified UI, e.g. TS22, TS23, TD01C, TS11s, TS26s, SC33, IF24 Pro, etc.
I also think that Convoy has released only one or two Anduril FLs, preferring to use their proprietary (and confusing) 4-mode/12 group user interface.
Do you suppose that Anduril is going to be merely a passing fad? As it is, I'm having a hard time trying to shop around for the Anduril based TS21 and TS25A. As I understand it, these two are discontinued Wurkkos lights and all the Anduril models from Sofirn and Wurrkos are at least one year old. 🤔🔦
Hi mate, Anduril is an overly complex UI for most flashlight users. I suspect they receive complaints and dramas from selling these to unsuspecting consumers. If you want full customisation, they're great. I like being able to adjust the stepdown temperature for example. But for tactical use, or just normal EDC use, I prefer a more simple UI, knowning it will do what I need it to do.

You don't say! 😀Ironically, I first learned about the Anduril flashlight demo on YT from an American reviewer named Todderbert who collects and reviews (mostly shortwave) portable radios on his channel. I struggled to find the logic behind the need for a fully customisable FL with multiple button presses.
I told myself that I wouldn't even approach Anduril with a 10 foot pole, let alone buy a light with this maddening user interface.... until I bought the Wurkkos TS11. 👍😁
I taught myself to compartmentalise ToyKeeper's Anduril flowchart and to memorise the functions one section at a time. Within one week I've managed to remember how to get into the blinky/utility and the strobe group modes. It was only after a month of owning a few Anduril FLs when I accomplished my last feat: sunset mode.
For now temp calibration, stepdown temps and ramping floor/ceiling settings are still off the table as they involve very complex pushbutton pressing. 😞
And there's the lack of the useful Muggle mode in Anduril 2 (present in Anduril 1) which befuddled me, as well as the semi-permanent Momentary mode which can only be reversed by factory resetting the flashlight. 5 clicks from the off position is all it takes to get stuck in this Momentary mode, which I understand is useful for photographic light painting and Morse code signalling.
I agree with you that Anduril FLs don't make great gifts for the non-flashlight folk. Everyone needs a torch in the dark, but not everybody has to have Anduril! 😀
"WoW" Just ordered mine before i seen this vid, man it looks "Very" dull on turbo in that dark park!! & im watching in 1080p on a 4K screen as well. Oh well i'll just have to see when i get it !! I'm going to config inside temp to 1 degree C after i get it very hot, then im going to set step down temp to 70 C just like i learnt from Smothered Chrome. Love the smell of a burning hand on a cold night !! HaHa.. I always turn my torch down or off if its getting too hot anyway. Even though i have around 250 or so torches in my collection i still get a bit confused with Anduril V1 & V2 so thanks for the detailed Anduril V2 instructions.. Big Help. Brett from South Australia.
Hi Brett, that park still has a lot of ambient light so it's not as dramatic as other beamshots. Some people also ramp up the ISO on their cameras to make it look brighter. You're a brave man haha. I think as long as you don't accidentally leave it on turbo, you should be ok with those settings. These smaller lights get hot very quickly. Thanks for watching mate.

Great video. Just a note on setting the stepdown temperature limit. You should actually click n times where n is the desired temperature above 30 degrees C, not above the current temperature. If the current temperature is around 30 C, it should work out about the same! (Example : If you want stepdown at 55 C, you should click 55 - 30 = 15 times)
Great arithmetic! My example should be 55 - 30 = 25 times!!
Hi Bob thanks for sharing - you're right! Someone else mentioned this too on my other video and I pinned it up. Some people like to calibrate their lights at a lower temp than is the case, but I'd rather not risk it overheating.
Thanks for the review. I just purchased one and this would be my first anduril flashlight. You did mention about calibration of temperature and step down temp. What about voltage calibration? Is there any benefits by doing so?
Hi Meor, from memory I believe the voltage calibration ensures that the battery voltage readings are accurate when you triple click the light. I don't think it affects the runtime or performance of the light.
As a data point - got my first anduril light (a Sofirn SP10 pro) a few days ago and it reads voltage something like .12-.15 lower than it actually is. I haven't bothered to calibrate it yet but I probably will because it will ease my OCD to do so. It's just pleasing when a measurement is accurate. Might also effect when low voltage protection kicks in? Dunno.

Anduril v1 & v2 Max step down temperature is 70C as far as i know. You won't hurt the LED Bcoz you'll feel it getting to hot & turn it down or off before you hurt the LED.
Yeah you're probably right, I can't remember exactly. I find 55-60 too much to hold though.
The thunderstorm mode on a sofirn q8 plus can just confuse hole neighbourhoods 😁

Good review thanks, I ordered one! I am wondering if it would hold significantly higher lumins while I am cycling on my bike due to airflow?
It should do - this one has a temp sensor + anduril programmed stepdown. So if the air reduces the temp, it should continue to hold brightness. But the FC13 has an FET driver meaning as the battery voltage drops, it will decrease in brightness anyway.
@@DarrenYeoYTIsn't an FET driver the same thing as a linear driver? A linear driver neither boosts nor bucks the battery voltage and any excess voltage is converted into heat.
If the FC13 has a a linear (FET) driver then it would really benefit from a high amperage/very low IR 18650 cell. 🤔
@@StratmanIII think a linear driver is a 'smarter' version of a FET driver. From what I read on BLF, it uses a varying resistor to achieve a constant current.

I know that many electronics applications use Field Effect Transistors (FET) or MOSFET and the technology goes back into the mid 70s. What wasn't clear is that the term "FET" itself only tells that the circuit comprises FET components. Linear, buck and boost drivers may also incorporate FET components therefore stating that a driver "FET" alone is kind of meaningless.
So there are the direct drive, linear, boost and buck driver drivers. Time for me to look into this interesting subject matter! 🔦😲

No but you can buy a Wurkkos FC11 and use the magnetic tailcap from that.

The FC12 is your best bet.
Would have been a great light, unfortunately, the USB-C port is so narrow, it only accepts Type-C cable that came with it. No point in having a Type-C port if you can't even charge it with a standard USB Type-C cable which I have plenty of.
Yeah that's the annoying thing about these new ports. I think they tried to make them more low key.

Wurkkos devrait peut-être favoriser l'amélioration de l'autonomie et de l'esthétique plutôt que de miser sur la quantité de lumens.
Des lampes de cette taille ne devraient pas dépasser les 2000 lumens en puissance pure, cela permettrait d'utiliser le turbo plus longtemps et cela diminuerait le temps de refroidissement.
I don't think this light produces 2000 Lumens anyway. You'd need a spring bypass and a high draw cell. And yes, is also prefer something like 1600-1700 lumens but better sustained output and driver.
Looks a bit disappointing, the M2 CULPM1 looks better IMO.
Yeah I've been spoiled by the throw and sustained output on my M2. But I wish it had onboard charging + some other bells and whistles.

I watched the entire video, and not once did you explain how to get into advanced mode. Which gives the user the means of how to take advantage of all the lighting modes you explained.
I ended up finding another video which the reviewer went into all the features and how to enable them. Great little flash light, however, your review and explanations fell kind of short. Again, I watched the entire video waiting for the steps to put the flashlight into advanced mode, however, it was never mentioned. Thirty three minutes of my life I'll never get back!👎
