Hi Mike. I am the father of the kids of the company who sponsored this video, and I very much enjoyed your take on the products. You alluded to the main comment I would make. You said that you held back without wearing a knuckle. That is because the handle of the knuckle is meant to protect the structure of your hand from breaking. Similar to a fighter wrapping his hands. This is why bare knuckle boxing is upside down as you know because the structure of the hand is the weak point, not just the skin. If you put the full knuckle on properly and gut punch a heavy bag I think you will understand why the internet maven's slashing away with their Knuckles are fidiots. And yes you have been sent many knuckles but you have not been sent many knuckles in four sizes. Think about how a woman is usually attacked first. Usually they grab their wrist. A small knuckle that fits her hand allows her to hammerfist the wrist of her would be captor. And oh if you had hammer-fisted the skull with the full knuckle, you also would understand the strength of it. The single knuckle is a great design and there are no statutes against it anywhere. But in a real fight without rules being able to hammer fist on someone's wrist is a huge plus. You should get an affiliate code from them and do a whole string of videos. Your first point in the video was the most important LOL. Corrosion yeah that's it.
Long time viewer and martial artist of various weapons based arts (I love the Screwbaton! Been suggesting that to people for years), I 100% agree about hammer fists! That's interesting because I've already seen you saying that a kubotan is a silly weapon to carry, but you can inflict very similar amounts of damage with it.
Metal causes more damage with less force making them far more efficient and the term knuckle duster comes from the term for a long overcoat in the old country being referred to as a duster…you carried your knuckle guards as they called them in your interior duster pockets…eventually becoming referred to as knuckle dusters
Three concerns I have with brass knuckles: 1. They limit/over-commit what your hands can do. They take away too many options. I do not see them as an advantage over an empty hand. They might even give a false sense of safety or dominance. 2. They are illegal in lots of places, and you might not know about all the local laws that can change from county to county, or town to town. 3. After you survive the fight, you have to survive the trial. The prosecutor will say they show intent to do excessive harm in what is a fistfight situation.
If you don’t see them as an advantage over an empty hand then you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about lol that’s like saying a hammer or club has no advantage over an empty hand…
Hello, I know it’s an old video but better late than never! I’m in Greece and brass knuckles is something commonly edc together with a knife. The first time I tried to hit something with a BK I almost broke my fingers. Everybody laughed and then explained me the proper way. You fit the BK as rings but what you do is you hold as hard as you can the portion of BK which is in your palm. Like when holding a lighter. You are going to feel the impact but not in your finger, in the inside base of your palm. Hope I helped a lil!
This is my first of your videos. Very fun. Thanks for sharing. It was right around the 15 minute mark, I thought to myself with a smile, "what a fun job."
Ey, ex gravy seal here, don't know if you remember me from a few videos ago. Just bought one of the single knucks. Looks perfect for the few things I've actually gotten any good at! Thank you, Icy Mike!
My main gripe with the brass knuckles is that you can't really rely on it if your life was in danger. Picture this, imagine you're in danger and grab your knuckles and now your attacker grabs a knife. Don't you feel at least a little bit like an idiot at that point thinking you were gonna do glancing hits with your plastic brass knuckles. Just drop the thing and run would be my advice. Don't rely on a sub-par weapon. And if you can't rely on it why carry it in the first place?
The kind you get to help you escape your vehicle have a seatbelt cutter and a glass breaker. The knuckle guard is just a safety feature. That being said. If you suddlely need a weapon you could hold while keeping your hand concealed in a pocket, but also deploy with no waste movement. It's an option.
A few years ago, I saw your episode on holding a chapstick in your hand, making a fist and using it in a self-defense situation. I've kept a roll in my pocket since then and two weeks ago, deployed said chapstic during a dustup I had at a supermarket. Life saved.
OK, watched the 1st 30 sec. Knuckle dusters are very fkn effective. Stiff jab with brass knuckles ends the fight, EVERY FKN TIME. Happy to show you brother.
I LOVED this video. Excellent demonstration of what the dusters can do. I'm ordering a single. That will come in so handy if the opportunity ever arises.
The orbital socket (part of the skull that houses the eyeball) is fairly easy to stove in when using blunt force enhancers. At that point the self defense argument gets pretty thin in court. Better to use something near at hand you didn't bring along showing an intent or willingness to use, albeit that also leaves you with fewer options in a forced encounter. Individual mileage may vary.
I have suffered from injury involving my hands... Took a while to heal properly. I carried a kubaton for years because I knew that my strong hand wasn't strong. It gave me peace of mind to know I still could have two useful hands
I always used Knucks/sap gloves/ a brass bar INTENTIONALLY for the added mass to my fist... Makes Body Blows more effective.... Admittedly, my experience was more being Jumped/ group things... So that changes the dynamic....
Damn that single "knuck" seems really practical. I feel like people have been sleeping on synthetic/hard plastic weapons, they're much easier to maintain, often cause less "accidents" and are generally more affordable too. I feel like giving the knuck a full grip instead of seperating the fingers is a genius move too, many knuckle like weapons in history had basically a grip for the full hand. No idea why modern brass knuckles seperate the fingers if the whole idea of a punch is to keep the hand tight so you dont mess up your fingers.
True. A mate with the nickname "Freezer" because he never lost a street fight 1960's had massive boxing glove size hands and would indeed never need them.👊😆
seems like a redesign of the old comtech stinger. Plus side of this new style, more protection of the knuckle and better retention. The old stinger jutted out between your fingers, but that made it easier to grab quickly. for either style it seems like your hand isn't really in danger until it's to late for the other guy anyway. just checked, they still sell the stinger. it's a dead simple design you could 3d print or injection mold so I'm not too surprised.
Fight-ending attacks with knuckle guards that are not lethal are collar bones and ribs. Just a few half-power attacks will cause great pain and debilitating limitations to range and strength of motion. I like ribs shots because it usually causes the opponent to double over and become vulnerable to knees.
Mike, brass knuckles can be used as they are if they're thick, since they eill slip and move if they are too light due to not having enough to grip on them. Also adding some rope in the palm part to make it thicker and less slippery
Yes good to see another excellent video. I am hoping for an announcement about whats going on with RKM studio since I saw the IG picture. This one was really cool! great video

It’s so good to see Mike! I was very concerned about him when he demonstrated getting shot with the Grimburg Gavle. His chest was badly bruised. I’m going to buy this item and see for myself. Lol 😆
You should do a video on saps/blackjacks/slungshot if you haven't already. I sometimes carry a simple leather, lead weighted one in a back pocket if I don't want to CC my handgun and the amount of force it can generate with a relatively light thwack is ridiculous. They seem like they're in the same sort of grey area as knuckles are in terms of lethal/less-lethal and legal/less-legal in a lot of jurisdictions.
interesting and tempting to get. one thing I'd love to see in future videos with similar blunt trauma effects, and even a mini clip of this demonstration, but using shock stickers or whatever they're called, the things that show if the physical shock received would be lethal or not, usually red or green.
H2H there was an incident where a well known gangster with the initials DH attacked the bodyguards of a witness in a courts waiting room in London, UK. The men all made it through the metal detectors with plastic knuckle dusters and attacked the bodyguards who were all well known fighters themselves (very large men who were used to being hit) There was blood all over the walls and the victims all had lengthy stays in hospital with serious injuries. These weapons are very dangerous but a lot less lethal than say a knife. There are many videos of brass knuckles being used online where hammerfists result in a KO.
Soooo funny at the end, Mike's covered in blood, giggling and punching the brains out of a fake skull like a madman, meanwhile the neighbors walk up and are basically like 😳hey, we're on your good side... right?😂😂😂
I re-manufacture and reverse engineer antique knuckles dusters and if you ask me, the effectiveness of any said knuckle comes down to design. The Bc41 for instance is a masterpiece, near perfect ergonomics and serrated end to crush jaws and bones on impact.
Sold. I've been striking for years, trained MMA and boxing for 8 months and got to the competitive level for boxing; am training thai now. I fancy myself a striking technician and have even incorporated striking while holding a blade into some of my training. All I can say is that when I buy one of these and start carrying it, that I never have to use it.
Plastic ones could arguably be more defensive since you can punch faster. Heavy hits with the metal knuckle dusters that misses target will leave you vulnerable a bit longer. So if you are fighting a lighter and fast target that can dodge quickly these would be preferred. Then when you fight a heavier guy you might switch to the metal knuckle dusters.
in regards to carrying a weapon that doesn't appear to be a weapon at all(and isn't really) I think it would be interesting to see water bottles tested, especially ones that are somewhat larger in capacity, have a metal core, and have a lanyard especially. IMO these are basically a massive lead flail in water bottle form, possibly massively slept on weapon you can literally carry anywhere. The main downside being that the more you hydrate, the less effective your weapon gets.
I’ve carried a tool called a saf-t-wrench for years. And I can contest… it works like a charm…. I read in a story book years ago that you shouldn’t swing as hard as you can… it’ll get messy…. Allegedly
You know I didn't think you're gonna get to the part where you're like. Yeah, these are cool and great. Put you're right very limited use case but very cool. I want one
The idea behind knuckles being brass was in part to add weight. As with fist loads (like a roll of quarters or a piece of heavy pipe) adding mass to one's fist is make the impact harder. If you know how physics works (Mass x Velocity²) adding a little mass to one's fist going the speed of a punch does add force.
It only adds force if the punch is going the same speed. And if you add mass to your hand, but the force your body produces to move your fist stays the same, you’d get less acceleration and thus less speed.
@@1TieDye1 no. Brass knuckles are not heavy enough to significantly slow a punch. They weigh around what boxing gloves weigh (boxing gloves are 8oz vs the typical 6-89z for brass knuckles) so if a boxer has force after the added weight then so too BKs add force even if at a slightly lowered velocity; because of total mass x velocity squared. Let's dumb the numbers down to see how it works out. To keep it simple let's say a fist weighs 1 unit & knuckles weigh 1 unit. Let's say a regular punch 20mph without gloves but 18mph with gloves; professional-level boxers can generate punch speeds of around 25 mph or more. 1x20² = 400 vs 2x18² = 640 640 with BKs is definitely more than 400 without even at a reduced velocity. Then add to it the fact brass is far denser a material than the bones if the fist with far less give & the punch transfers more power into a target than a bare fist.
I have a self defense tool called a Stinger. I bought a few of those years ago. Same concept. But these look good. And yeah the neighbors at the end are funny!
Will definitely be purchasing one of these. The brass ones just make me uncomfortable with the idea of being in a situation where I'm forced to respond. They are a deterrent but that legal layover is probably more problematic than not. These just feel more appropriate for when I'm out jogging/walking.
@@ZvnNn-jl8zm I want to say effectiveness but, thinking it over, I'd be more concerned with legality first. That's just my personal opinion. Additionally, I'd say that the standard "old school" looking ones are the best fit. I believe some do make molds these days that are quite gaudy to sell them, but a good standard mold is best, in my opinion, for concealment.
Mike, my family and I are vacationing in Myrtle Beach later this summer. You’re one of the few TH-camrs I admire/look up to. I’m not a weirdo or anything, but would you mind if I stopped by to meet you? -Big Fan from Indiana
Hell yes you can, pad em good & hammerfist you’ll shatter anything that gets in their way, the composite are the best. But if it’s lethal a & that’s all you got. You do have to hit some sandbags & pad. Em right or they can break you palm. Also I’ve used a one knuckler & it’s nowhere near as hubris inducer as having all your knuggs covered. I just did like a three inch pinch to the outside under chest
@@ZvnNn-jl8zmnot sure, my favs are made of a composite plastic with chording in the palm, I don’t fully agree with the speed aspect, tho I’ve got fast hands but add those, especially the composite knucks & it’s lights out. I can’t imaging a more effective weapon (hopefully) non fatal, a decent just contact blow will end it. I’ve used the one finger keychain type before too, I thought I’d blast the gut in the upper chest/ribs & they didn’t have the one punch/more like a jab to get the gut to really come at me, he did call a friend in so that got slippery but i was later told his rib was cracked but not shattered, I am referring to a softer plastic with like a didlo tip, clear & jusf not the true brass or composite I’m talkin bout. Cuz those will fugggggg you up. Guaranteed

ICY MIKE WITH THE KNUCKLE DUSTERS!
This is my first of your videos. Very fun. Thanks for sharing.
It was right around the 15 minute mark, I thought to myself with a smile, "what a fun job."
"My life's work has led to this moment."
A little bit of bloodlust there but it's no big deal. The neighbours will pay for the fence to be completed.
Brass knuckles are good for hit and run attacks too... the point is to incapacitate long enough to get away
Life saved.
That's called loading your fists I think.
Roll of coins , size depends on your hand size
I want to buy the best knuckle, what should I pay attention to? Or what are the features of the best knuckle?

“I don’t know when you’d need to do this but it’s good to know that you can” words to live by right there.
I'm glad you showed the shuffle too for those of us that don't hover well. Makes us feel included.
This was such an amazing video. Keep up the good work. Love the neighbor bit at the end.
The men all made it through the metal detectors with plastic knuckle dusters and attacked the bodyguards who were all well known fighters themselves (very large men who were used to being hit)
There was blood all over the walls and the victims all had lengthy stays in hospital with serious injuries. These weapons are very dangerous but a lot less lethal than say a knife.
There are many videos of brass knuckles being used online where hammerfists result in a KO.
The absolutely PSYCHOTIC ending was hilarious I'm choking on my coffee hahaha holy crap
I love that “bop” is a universal boxing description.
What are the characteristics of a good knuckle?
The weight is important. Same as gripping a roll of quarters. A medium speed punch delivering a sneaky amount of unexpected damage.
Sold.
I've been striking for years, trained MMA and boxing for 8 months and got to the competitive level for boxing; am training thai now. I fancy myself a striking technician and have even incorporated striking while holding a blade into some of my training. All I can say is that when I buy one of these and start carrying it, that I never have to use it.
i wanted to reply to that comment saying we need plastic brass knuckle dusters with tactical flashlights - genius.
I'm glad u realised just how psycho the holding and hitting was. Mike's dark place.
1x20² = 400 vs 2x18² = 640
640 with BKs is definitely more than 400 without even at a reduced velocity.
Then add to it the fact brass is far denser a material than the bones if the fist with far less give & the punch transfers more power into a target than a bare fist.
I heard “I’m about that first punch life” and subscribed immediately 😂
😄The neighbors at the end.... I spit out my water and started laughing so hard.
Cool video. You gotta weigh down or brace the frame for the skull better and bolt the skull down so it has more counter resistance.
Great vid! Would love to see ur take on push knives or ring handle knives
They are illegal and suck lol
I have a self defense tool called a Stinger. I bought a few of those years ago. Same concept. But these look good. And yeah the neighbors at the end are funny!
The ending of the video was worth the watch
Will definitely be purchasing one of these. The brass ones just make me uncomfortable with the idea of being in a situation where I'm forced to respond. They are a deterrent but that legal layover is probably more problematic than not. These just feel more appropriate for when I'm out jogging/walking.
What are the characteristics of a good knuckle?
@@ZvnNn-jl8zm I want to say effectiveness but, thinking it over, I'd be more concerned with legality first. That's just my personal opinion. Additionally, I'd say that the standard "old school" looking ones are the best fit. I believe some do make molds these days that are quite gaudy to sell them, but a good standard mold is best, in my opinion, for concealment.
@@R.A.M.10 Oh, thank you very much
I have one more question for you
What is the difference between knuckle dusters and ordinary brass knuckles?
Mike, my family and I are vacationing in Myrtle Beach later this summer. You’re one of the few TH-camrs I admire/look up to. I’m not a weirdo or anything, but would you mind if I stopped by to meet you?
-Big Fan from Indiana
I need someone like you to help my anxious lad to stand up to his Bullies you are a great person, with alot lf knowledge
I want to buy the best knuckle, what should I pay attention to? Or what are the features of the best knuckle?
@ make sure you can hit a semi hard target without feeling le your palms breaking, wrap with leather rope or para rope
@@mofost1 Thank you. I had another question for you. Are the black thin steel duster knuckles suitable?
Guaranteed
@@mofost1 Oh! Thank you so much my friend. I have a black steel knuckle duster that I hit against a gray block and neither my hand nor the duster was hurt. It seems you know a lot about knuckle dusters and you love them! Me too my friend! But I don't think they should be made illegal because they are very good for self-defense.
