Thanks so much to both of you for doing the podcast, I’ve enjoyed the more regular schedule while it lasted. Safe travels, and look forward to hearing more when Phil gets back

Interesting conversation about small and large businesses. Capital and free cash flow has to factor into it too. A small business can't absorb as much risk as a big company. If Nike has a shoe that flops, who cares. If a small maker has a flop, that could ruin them if they don't have the core sales to fall back on.

We had a few Foxtrots open in the DC area. It was basically part coffee shop and part boutique grocery store. The coffee shop section was always popular and busy but no one ever really shopped in the grocery section. I think their issue was that they had such a large retail space but only about half of it made money. Not exactly a winning formula when rent was probably very high.

    Great video guys!
It was interesting to hear Horween referred to as a small tannery, but I was was left wanting when you didn't follow that up with examples of what ya'll would consider large tanneries.
The discussion on white leather was interesting too. I've often thought about how growing up virtually every shoe around me worn by peers was white, but after "growing up" realizing that virtually nothing outside of sneakers is white. I've thought many times on whether a white boot would look good...especially after it got dirty. 😂 But of course the examples really aren't out there. Cool to hear at least one reason, beyond trends, why examples of white leather aren't really out there. I do have a white rolled top on a pair of MTO's that I love. I think white as a highlight or second-tone in a boot could certainly be cool, even if white as a main color isn't.

Have a pair of Trumans in Natural Cypress, very thick tough leather with hard break in but once they softened up they’re amazingly comfortable.
Why is Dublin mentioned so often without talking about Essex? Seems like missing a step.🤷‍♂️

Scored a pair of “burnt oak” Dublin Vibergs at the sample sale in NYC a couple years ago. They’re my go to boots. Broke in fast and mad comfortable.

Ya I have the same pair on the 20 Last. My only Truman’s but it’s a sick build. The Natural Cypress is amazing.

I listened to this on my podcast app another great one. I’ve been listening to this pod since the beginning. Nick’s job is obviously very technical. Does he have an applied chemistry (or chemistry) background? Academic credentials aside, is this the sort of position that favors an applied science background? (I’m just curious; no interest in entering the field.)

Is there something different in tile and blue CXL that makes it brake different, pigment or tanage reaction? All of the photos of worn pairs I see look really differently from color 8, natural, brown and black ones.

Love cypress but hate the name. I hear cypress and think green. I never know if people mean cypress tannage or another tannage in cypress green
