    One motion is only good for three pointers. You need two motion for close range battles.

    Changing my set shot/point from above and behind my head to around the forehead gave me a one motion shot.
    You can still sweep and sway a lot on a one motion shot, you just release the ball before you finish your sweep and sway.

    Shooting Evolution: hitch (first) -> 2motion -> 1 motion -> either (now), depends on defense.
    Starting as a self taught shooter, my shot was a 2 motions shot, bringing the back back, so really it was the hitch. Then I started practicing and working on the mechanics of my shot. First I correct the hitch, so I would keep the ball infront, but still was a 2 motion. Then after examining Currys shot, and trying it by shooting lower, not bringing the ball up to a high "set point" I noticed by shots had lots more arc, were easier, and were going in! It was so easy, and effective, it felt like cheating.
    I then realized the difference between a 2 motion MJ shot, and a 1 motion Curry shot. I then found video which confirmed my theories, and realized that in games, because I'm short, I often jump on closer or midrange shots, and shot at the top of my jump (2 motion). And when I'm at 3point range, with some room, I go with the 1-motion shot.
    I have also read, Pro Shooting Secrets, and that really solidified my ideas around shooting.
    My take away, similar to conclusions in the aforementioned book, is that it depends on your height (taller players don't need to avoid blocks by jumping as high as shorter players), where you are shooting from (midrange vs 3pt), and how close the defender is.
    Currently I'm investigating adding a floater to my game which could replace my 2-motion shot, or complement my options, when in midrange or closer distance.

  • @dwalker771

    Coach, the way I see it is that every player has a set point, it's just some players have a quicker release and don't pause as much as others during that set point. In slow motion to me it looks like curry has a set point just above his eye as most one motion shooters seem to. What's your opinion on this?
    Also do you think it's better to snap the wrist on your release, or let it flick naturally due to the extension of yourarm and elbow? thanks

    • @GrandLotus
      @GrandLotus 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Snap it for rotation. 1 motion shooters like Curry can't be considered having a set point, it looks like that cause it's slowed down

    Coach, I find that my "set point" is always changing depending on the type of shot I'm shooting. Sometimes my shot is a one-eyed shot and other times it's two; sometimes higher and sometimes lower so I find myself being bothered by my set point a lot. Should I still divert my focus from the set point and onto the end result?

I also have some difficulty locking my elbow and doing the hand in the cookie jar all the time, too. Nevertheless, I'm not a terrible shooter. At least not by the standards of where I live.

    I personally like to jump a little bit more in my shot. I don't have a dramatic pause, but I jump enough where I can catch the ball from the side and gain my balance/alignment in the air for a spot up shot. One motion shots feel much harder to catch and shoot from the sides, as the release is so quick that it can be harder to gain balance and alignment before shooting(if you want to shoot fast). What do you think?

    • @CleanxBean713
      @CleanxBean713 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve always been coached your three point shot and your mid range shot should not be the same shot. I’m a one motion shooter for threes, but a 2 motion shooter for midranges. It helps to get higher elevation when closer to the basket, and that naturally cause you to become a 2 motion shooter.

    When shooting i try to make it a one motion shot. This is fine with 3-pointers. But at mid-range, if I try to do a one motion shot, i cannot extend my elbow fully, making my elbow extension inconsistent between different ranges. If I want to remain consistent with my elbow and follow through, I have to release later in the jump, making it less fluent. Which is better/worse? Inconsistent follow through or inconsistent release timing? Or is there a way where i don't have to choose?

    • @reidb9422
      @reidb9422 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      elleveldy late ass comment but.. I had he same problem my three was consistent but my midrange felt very inconsistent when I shot with one motion. So what I did was start using a 2 motion jumper all the time. Since then my midrange is my best area and my three is still pretty good. Sometimes very deep threes can be difficult but use sweep and sway. I had the same problem as you and now my shot is great

    coach, isn't james harden also a borderline shooter? I think one of the reasons some players are seen as one motion shooters is that they barely use the sweep and sway, because they focus more on the smooth, non-pause release. For borderline shooters mentioned in the video, like durant and reddick, I think they focus a little bit more on the jump( the sweep and sway), and when they do that, there would be a slight pause on the release.

    Dude says one motion shooters are smoother....He has to mean in the technical sense....because Ray Allen's Shot looks smooth as fuck, and so does the example shot they showed with Kobe....It looked so damn sweet. SMOOTH!

    Hey coach I was wondering if it is bad that on my jump shot from 3 point range, I jump about 4 inches off the ground but I release the ball when I am only about 1-2 inches off the ground. I have a one motion shot, but I am releasing the ball on the way up. Thanks

    okay, soon my "turn" (that's what my question is about) my left foot is halfway behind my right foot. Like, my toes are at the midway section. Is this enough to be a good shooter? My dad keeps yelling at me to stay squared and he says it's to help me out. I don't get this cuz he turns, but still

    +Pro Shot Shooting System hey guys, great video. But I don't agree in Dirk being a hitch shooter. His setpoint is actually more in the direction of his head than of the most 2 Motion shooters. And sometimes when he is guarded very tight a litte above the head, but it's never behind the head. I would call him borderline between hitch and 2 Motion. He has a bit of a hitch setpoint but his Shooting Motion is 2 Motion, because of that this "Hitch Setpoint" doesn't effect his shooting negatively. What do you think about that?

    • @ProShotSystem
      @ProShotSystem  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +huddrez99 Maybe...He does bring it back...not as big as Bird's. Your right, it doesnt effect it

    I mean that by the time I catch it and start my shot for the one motion, my eyes need to adjust. It is not a matter of quick feet, but a matter of gaining my balance.

    • @idkidk6164

      You should try to only release it with your middle finger, index finger, or both. Using your ring finger and pinky finger would make you miss left and right.

  • @calebmerilien2357
    @calebmerilien2357 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I can't believe I'm saying this but I I would half to disagree with you coach Paul on set points because it improved my shot. My release is the only consistent part of my entire shot.Players need a set point because it will give them a consistent release angle(elbow always above eye). One motion shooters do have set points problem is it's difficult to see because the shot is so quick so you half to slow it down. You will only see a 1 motion shooters setpoint before they jump. Once they jump the ball already gone.1 motion shooters can still have a quick shot despite having a set point because the ball is in front of the face or forehead. 2 motion shooters bring the set point to the peak of jump then shoot it. They will usually have the ball behind their head or have shot on the side of their face. The more you bring the ball back the more of a throw the shot becomes. what I'm saying is that a set point won't slow down shot as long as the player keeps ball in front of their face making sure the ball isn't behind the head or on the side of head making it a V. Other than your thoughts on set points I'll agree with you on everything else because you always show proof which is why I will always love the pro shot shooting system and Shotmechanics.

      I agree with what your saying I think calling it one motion is more of a terminology to differentiate the two. watch Steph shoot from half court the shot starts from the bottom of near his shot pocket. that is definitely a one motion shot.

    Hey Pro Shot, can you explain why so many good-great shooters "bring" their knees close to each other before they jump to shoot? I've noticed LeBron does that when he's on the left wing, and Curry and Irving does that too. Is it true that it gives your more power and a better arc?

    • @bozdogan_

      Yaboi john If the ball reaches your set point while your legs are bending, you may have less power in your shot. If your shot is comfortable, I'd stay stick with it anyways.

    idk if i agree about not worry about the set point i'm a one motion shooter on catch and shoot and im aware of my set point because it gives me more control over my shot. Even as i watch those highlights in the video Curry and Hardin seem to have set points as well. exp. Curry looks like he puts the ball right in front of his right eyebrow before he releases his shot

    • @ProShotSystem
