Most mono lines only deteriorate in sunlight, but not much sunlight gets to the inside of the spool so I always found the line inside better than the top bit I catch all the fish on.In Britain there's not much swimming that will empty a full spool,so only the top 200 feet or so on a 1,200 feet fill up ever gets wear. I can only speak from experience, and I've never had a problem reversing the line.
Hi,I don't do it when spooling a reel, but carry a small dispenser witrh a diluted amount of washing up liquid to squirt over the spool before I cast out .Yes,it certainly helps you get below the surface film, especially floatfishing a waggler where you might get some lateral drift. Good Luck. The T/A crew
Friggin Awesome!!! bloody good stuff mate !! I just bought 5 2nd hand reels all packed with line and was getting wallet shock at the thought of the cost of replacing all of them .. And your completely correct who uses up all the line when fishing ?? spot on !
thanks again for the great money saving tips, i'm going to go in my shed and make a couple of the spools with the nut through it and do my reels. keep up the good work.
Made in the United States. If you put Ande fishing line into your search engine you should come up with the USA office. Email them and ask where their European suppliers are. There might be one in Spain. Or try Capt. Harry's Fishing Supply in Miami. That's where I got mine from.
oh wow. thats a great way to save money. didnt know reversing the line was even in the books. brilliant. just simply brilliant. since im generally broke, this reversing of the line will save me a lot of money and catch me more fish.
Liked this video, but strangely that's what i do after using the same line for about a year or so and i just spool it the other way around, but thanks for the tip that spooling your line while dipping it under the water.
to put the line back on the reel get the right size socket and a socket adapter for the drill and put it on the handle nut, that turns the handle considerably faster than normal.
Is it a good idea to use washing up liquid in the water when spooling fixed reels? I heard it helps de-grease the line making it cut through the water easier and sinking the line..
Great vids...:thumbsup one thing i wonder... its easy with level wind reel but... how can you get a tight and even line on an open conventional reel like that?
I've really liked the video. Great job. There one thing I'd like to ask. Where can I get Ande monofilament in Spain?. Probably nowhere but and in Europe? I hope you can help me.
Hi Graeme, Thanks for the videos. How do you prevent the line from forming a rugby ball shape when you spool it on? Eventually it get so distorted that it interferes with the level line system, not allowing it to pass from one side of the spool to the other. Thanks.
I take most of the level winds for castings reels off so when I wind in in I can do touching turns so it will cast further. A lot of people take the level winds off ,but I know what you mean,as soon as a fish pulls drag the level laying system is changed.
@@TAFishing Thanks for taking the time to reply Graeme. I wondered if perhaps it was the knot i used to join the line to the spool spindle. My spindle didnt have a recess to hide the knot inside. Thanks - Ill probably take the level wind off, fit a conversion kit and re-spool.
Great video. One question. Would this work with braid? Doesn't see like it's on there tight enough to prevent the braid digging in on itself under pressure. Great idea with the spools and drill.
Hi Graeme what do you mean by 'touching turns' when adding line to the spool. In your other video (How to cast a fishing reel for beginners (Multiplier Reel)) you said to leave a few millimetres gap?
Hi Graeme I love your videos i watched all of them and learned alot, i am a beginner what i like to know from waching the video how to (spool a fishing reel), where can i get my hand on an empty fishing line spool the same size or bit biger like the bolt spool you used on the video to spool the fishing reel, i will be very greatful if you could help me here mate best reagards
You could ask at bigger tackle shops where they might have line-winding machines and therefore have empty spools left over. Other than that I don't know.Type it into your search engine and see what comes up. Or try commercial thread and bobbin companies.
Loved your video - just recently found out about "Conventional Reels" so have been asking some You Tube Fellows for advise. I don't do any saltwater fishing, only freshwater. The next thing I want to try is trolling with wire line. Whats your feelings on Baitcast vs Conventional Reels & what do you think would be the best reel for my freshwater steel line trolling? I gotta say the conventional reels look really cool, I just don't know how long it takes to master the "Thumb Steering" of the line. Thanx for your time: Shawn
Shawn Doe I would say the multiplier for wire line fishing.A fixed spool(spinning reel) will have a smaller spool diameter and may create coils of line memory.Wire, even stranded,is relatively stiff.Have you thought of using braid ? It will cut through the water and can be used on either multiplier or spinning reel.
Great vid. One question: how the hell do you tie off the line once you have spoiled it, to keep the tension and stop it unraveling when not in use?! Fixed spool reels have little line clips, my multiplier doesn't seem to have anything to clip to?
+Matt Norman When you finish spooling up tie a loose loop in the end, then half hitch a rubber band through the loop, stretch the other end of the band either around the spool,or over the handle. Then you can always find the line end.
I know what you mean but don't tie your line to it or it will just pull off.Tie it right round the spool itself.I don't actually know why some reels have that bolt bit on them as you will rarely ,if ever get a fish take all the line right down to the stub.Good luck.
Just from the introduction, that's ironic as I do that with underpants. You know, the large, Y-front type that reach your belly button. Saves on washing power and powder. Hey, that's another one for Viz...
No,it doesn't absorb water .You fish with the line in water anyway, then wind it on the reel ? Its UV rays on sunlight that deteriorate nylon line, so keep your reels and spare line in the dark. It should last longer.
I was wondering about how long the line lasts without being used. The bait shop tells me if the line is 1 year or more old to replace it. I'm thinking that it's made from plastic or nylon or whatever, but seems like it should last forever. Probably falls somewhere in between I reckon :P Great video and thanks.
I've had most of mine for several years and see no point in changing all the time.Keep the reels/line in a cool dark place out of sunlight and it will last longer.
Thanks Graeme. I had a feeling they were just trying to sell me stuff. I have the reels put away nice and my poles in my bedroom. I figure if I see them enough I might go fishing :)
so the inside of the reel and the line that has never seen salt water is corroded hmm wonder how that can be. i would never turn my line around like that, the spool gets wet all the way in ande the whole line suffers wear and tear, and if i lost my lifes fish because i cheaped out on the line i would never be able to forgive my self
Couldn't you just have half the reel cap with backing line then have however many feet of line that sees the water then doing these? I mean if you have 300ft going into the water just have 300ft of main line and the rest backing line and just replace the 300ft of main line instead of stripping all the line off and reversing it
i actually did this trick with one of my reels. the line was fairly old. about a year or so and looked worn. i flipped it around and the line now looks almost new.

Great demonstration every time! Creative fishing skills. Thank you.
Great idea. Very nice presentation. Excellent tips as always to help keep costs down.
Very helpful tutorial. Keep it up!!

this was a great video of me i am setting up my 1st boat rod and multiplier this week for weekend fishing trip
thanks ....great advice as usual
i used a small lathe to de-spool 1500 yards of braid that was 5 years old. I put a rod holder attached to the wall and then put my lathe at 500rpm.
2021
Quality advice.
Thank you.

Great video fish on
Grate fishing tip I will use that one
Great info!
Thanks for excellent tips!
Not being very up on this presume you can do the same with fixed spool reels ? And will the line have to be fed certain way so as not to twist ?
Good stuff. Gunna do this before the next outing... Thank you sir!
Susbscribed.
outstanding don't know why i didn't think of that my self.
Great video Graeme 🦈TA fishing🦈 & of course 🌲TA outdoors🌲 are the best 👍

Hi I am in a bit of a quandary, Mono or braid on a multiplier? light wreck and tide boat fishing. what would you use?
Great vids...:thumbsup one thing i wonder... its easy with level wind reel but... how can you get a tight and even line on an open conventional reel like that?
Just spread it between your thumb and forefinger. That way you can lay coils closer together than a level wind can.

LEGEND!!!!!!

should work OK for braid. The few times I've loaded braid I have had no problems.

Hey, that's another one for Viz...
Love it.
i really enjoy your videos :)
TAF-My friend advised me to soak my braid in water before adding to my reel. Is this a good idea?
Not heard of it with braid, but I used to do it with my Big Game reels on a mono load so it packs on tight.
Wouldn't the monofilament line get weaker because it was soaked in water in the bucket, and on the reel?
No,it doesn't absorb water .You fish with the line in water anyway, then wind it on the reel ? Its UV rays on sunlight that deteriorate nylon line, so keep your reels and spare line in the dark. It should last longer.
Just put large dacron as backing and then all you ever have to replace is the topshot.
and i just saved $25 US dollars!
thank you sir.

great hack ta fishing
so why wouldnt you just take off the first 200 ft and keep on trucking
Sometimes the line may get caught and you have to cut it hence why they give you so much?
Great tip once again!! TA ARMY!!!! w00t w00t

what kind of reel is that?
Shimano TLD 25
You should have used a drill when you was putting line on the reel
Couldn't you just have half the reel cap with backing line then have however many feet of line that sees the water then doing these? rather than tie your line onto the spare spools, you might like to use masking tape. when you get to the end it wont knock your teeth out, just slips.
How do you pronounce his first name
WARNING... Excessive REEL porn ahed do not watch if you might get jealous
epic
We have being doing this for donkeys years
Can't watch a video for 15 minutes just to tell me how to respool some line. I get the gist. Reverse the line on the reel. Okay, thanks. Got it.
Or you could just tie a blood knot
bra
good
+Zabih Ghand thanks
