In the video, I accidentally said Corina’s pronouns were she/her, instead of they/them.
This was an oversight on my part, and I’ll be more careful in the future! I didn’t intend to misgender them.

I do believe there is an interview with Corina where they stated that Paimons voice changed because the high pitch was easier for them and their throat.
Despite the higher tone, I think her VA's acting has only gotten better with time.

It's weird how Paimon's chinese voice just sounds cute and consistent throughout the game unlike how english dub directors decided to make her pitch higher and higher.
I think Paimon’s Chinese voice is actually lower now compared to launch

(Edit: Idk what's happening with the comments but imo I prefer Japanese and sometimes eng, and planning to dl Chinese, so in short, it is people's preferences with their chosen languages. Either they find paimon annoying or don't, the important is you have primos 👁️👄👁️... Have a great day)
It's not quite the directors. When asked if Corina was doing it on purpose, they apparently said "paimon is meant to be annoying".
Of course, take this with a grain of salt. I only read this somewhere online as well.

I actually thought it was a little strange how knowledgeable Paimon was, due to the character type. I'll say though, the voice doesn't help Paimon seem any more intelligent... even when the dialogue ISN'T stupid, it comes across that way to me.
I will ALSO say, the Japanese voice acting of Paimon doesn't give the same impression and is a lot less grating to the ears - but to be honest, the Japanese voice acting leaves me with a much better impression of a LOT of characters. In some cases, the English version seems like a totally different character / personality, even if they're saying roughly the same things.
Kinda strange. Hard not to notice if you're used to listening to Japanese dubs and then you try an English one of the same game/anime. Some personas change DRASTICALLY.

See, she says that in an interview, but was busted saying something different on stream. She said in stream that she did it cause her voice would hurt after hours of work(cause guess what, she never did warm ups before recording sessions), and practically forced them to let her do it higher.
So did Corina decide to make Paimon’s voice higher, or was it at the voice direction team’s instruction?
Tbh when it comes to Corina I try to take whatever they say with a large fistful of salt 💀

Yeah shes not a good source of info at all, ive heard of several inconsistancies from her. Shes just a voice actor, she goes in, she records, she leaves. Nothing past that.

that's pretty sad that they went in that direction that just ends up leaving a bad impression of the VA's work on players. Corina is a very good VA, they did an such an amazing job voicing Mizuki in the Ai: the somnium files games
I had no clue about that, I actually really liked Mizuki's voice acting. But Paimon is literally the sole reason I can't/won't play Genshin in English... it's unlistenable to me.
No, it’s false. Yes, they made her voice higher on purpose, but for a good reason.
Corina said herself that in the og Paimon voice, it was very uncomfortable. So they told her to make it higher for it to be more comfortable for her voice.

Old voice Paimon actually sounded older, somewhat mature and is an actual guide instead of today's Paimon where she just talks about food, treasure, no knowledge of Inazuma & Sumeru, and repeating what people already said
her voice isnt even the worst part ngl, its the whole "oh dear! hilichurls! scary!" after we have fought multiple gods, giant robots, and have been in far worse situations regularly

That is why i play chinese dub, since the va is a vtuber outside of voiceovers she cared about her “vocal image” so either she does her natural voice or she doesn’t voice paimon-
All the other voices for paimon are “forced” higher btw only cn dub isn’t so she actually sounds cute rather than annoying

I heard someone say that she sounded like that in the beginning of the game when we first met Paimon because she wasn’t as familiar and animated as she is now- kinda like how she became more and more loud and comfortable with us as our journey went on…I dunno, I’ll always appreciate Teyvat’s finest travel guide

You can find clips online of the Archon Quest in the beta version, where Barbara's lines were done in her old voice
It's kind of like how people have a "formal" tone when talking to someone the first time or when they haven't really known each other for long
But as time goes, as the person starts to get closer and closer, the tone of their voice changes, to a more playful, "relaxed" and sometimes, the tone goes higher
Oh that's trueee, when I talk to others I'm not as close with, I keep my voice down (I have average-deep voice). When the intimacy level increases e.g. with my family, I gradually go high-pitched usually involuntarily when my emotion is high. My family says why I'm so angry, keep calm, don't talk like screeching. I'm just like 🥲 I'm still calm, and I don't know I'm talking as if I was angry, sorry ✋😭

Paimon voice lines in Japanese is soo cute. During the 3.3 something archon quest when she was crying because she was missing traveller really made me sad.
I changed the language to Chinese specifically because I couldn’t handle the high pitch anymore. Also lines up with mouth movements so that’s a bonus
Well it's also partially because of them getting more comfortable with their role and their voice becoming more natural to them.

@@ishuika it is to Corinna… there are some livestream of the VA playing Among Us with Zach (Aether’s VA) and other people and Paimon talks a lot so if the recording sessions are long, counting retakes, it’s good they got to her natural voice.
You can watch any segment of Zach’s channel with Corinna and you’ll hear the high pitch Paimon voice.

@@mandarynkowyryz your point is very valid that’s absolutely true. but the VA said it, they changed the pitch for that reason, and what I meant was “further proving Corinna is more comfortable with this voice compared to the other one, since I don’t know this person in real life, are these uploads from Zach”.
Eng voice Direction team really hates cute sounding girls. They either make them sound cartoonishly squeaky or really deep and mature. There's no in-between for their direction. That's why I switched over to JP. I am not saying JP is perfect, but at least they get the tone and emotion right. Characters like Collei will get the right depth to their voice, compared to the Eng counterpart.
Plus, Eng Paimon was literally chastising Scara for having a breakdown in the latest quest. It felt so bad hearing that. I was there for Scara's Eng voice and I ended up hating Paimon's Eng voice even more.

more than just her voice i think, she was less aggressive and felt like she was on the journey learning with us instead of just making conceited or "you handle it, traveler!" kind of commentary. I'd love for her voice to soften again though, it was much more comforting.

I thought it was also because that kind of voice Paimon had in the release was too much for the va and cause them to go to the hospital very often after recording (they also said that it was a decision made by MiHoyo)

I genuinely play genshin with character voice set to 0, and while some people woud berate me for 'missing out' on other actually good voice acting in the game, the high pitched paimon voice nowadays genuinely and sincerely hurts my ears to a point where it gives me a migraine. And since paimon talks more than any other charcter in the game, it was an inevitable decision to turn her voice off forever, along with every other voice in the game. Paimon's voice direction has single handedly ruined genshin voice acting for me forever.
Me who loves hearing paimon speaking in japanese:

I think they made similar instructions to the other languages because i use korean dub and during the weinslefest festival i was forced to finish jeans quest before i could continue with the weinslefest and i realised paimon's voice was a lot more subdued during that quest than her voice currently
