Thanks Johnny. Amazingly you captured the spirit of these 2 most sacred places of worship. Felt like I visited there personally... The Sacred Bo Tree - a sapling from the Tree under which The Buddha attained Enlightenment , was brought to Srilanka by Arhant Bhikkuni Sanghamitta She was non other than the Daughter of Emperor Ashoka., and sister of Arhant Mahinda Thera (son of Emporor Asoka who helped the then king, Dewanam Piya Tissa to establish The Buddha's Teachings in Sri lanka. This was 200 years before Ruwanweliseya was built. King Dewanam Piya Tissa who planted the Bodhi tree sapling , wanted to build the first stupa of the country in that spot but he was told by Mahinda Thero that its reserved for a future great king , Gemunu. So he set up a stone column with that description, and was later discovered by King Gemunu. It's still available for us to see., behind the stupa... Bdw king Dutu Gemunu who built the Ruwanweliseya Stupa is the son of Queen Vihara Maha Devi who as a princess offered her life as a sacrifice during the Tsunami 2000 odd years ago..and landed in Kirinda Muhudu Maha Viharaya. The amazing story surrounding the construction of the Huge Stupa, and how The Buddha's Relics were brought to be enshrined is documented in the Great Chronicle " Mahawamsa".
Interesting fact, Stupas Ruwanweliseya and Jetawana were Asia's tallest man made structures From 140BC to 500AD for almost 600 years. And in the world, only great Pyramid of Giza was taller than Jetawana Stupa.

@ that's the problem you have. Southern indians aren't came to Sri lanka that time. King Vijaya is not a southern indian. If king Pandukabhaya is an immigrant king, then how you explain his Irrigation system planning and city planning done at Anuradhapura? India had no such tradition of reservoir & irrigation building while planning a capital city. The most advanced irrigation and city planning in asia is found at Anuradhapura at that era. This technology was from a native civilization. Why the hell they want a immigrant king to plan this city.

Hi Johnny, Hope you have covered Abhayagiriya, Jethavanaramaya, Mirisavatiya, Kuttam Pokuna (Pair of Ponds), Samadhi Buddha Statue, Lowa Maha Paya and other sites in Anuradhapura. Waiting to see...
Polonnaruwa Kingdom was mostly constructed from Bricks ,where as many monuments in Anuradhapura created from Stones.. Anuradhapura was more sustainable as It's monarchs (Unlike Parakramabahu of Polonnaruwa ) were not in a frenzy to build Stupas or Reservoirs which resulted in more people flocking in to the city. Polonnaruwa had 3 Lakh population and could not last long .. Once reservoirs were destroyed during internal conflicts and Magha the Tyrant's rule ..those were ideal breeding grounds for Mosquitoes fragmented villages were more or less inhabitable.Few people returned to Polonnaruwa After South Indian Magha 's rule was over, yet man power was not enough to renovate the vast swaths of Reservoirs or buildings and continuous shift of Kingdoms towards south west ensured It's glory would be disappeared through the sands of time
this stupa history is unbelievable ..... there are so many documentries and preachings are in sinhala..... as a buddhist this is a most important monument (sacred stupa) for us.....
I love Anuradhapura. I feel at peace there. Make sure if you are coming to Colombo to come on the putlam Road. So you can stop at Putlam, Kalpitiya (for kite surfing) and Chilaw on the way back. Cheers
You didnt get full complete details about Ruwanweli stupa from your guide...great details are there about King Gemunu n stupa....that's about 2000 years ago..... Same time you could see the start gate at Ranmasu Uyana....that is old more than 6000 years and 3rd Star Gate in the world.... for that you need to read about King Rawana....
Ugh. There is too much more to see in Anuradhapura. You pay a huge sum as a foreigner and just go only to two places, spend just a hour or two it is very uneconomical. Plan a complete day trip, and arrive at 6 O'clock or even before. There are definitely things to visit till even the late night. Plan a route with a proper map, and it is okay to have a vehicle, but It is rewarding to walk most of the stretches if you feel adventurous. Note that there was no vehicles when the city was made, So majority of people walked the streets around the place without complaining like today. So, to feel the real majesty of the city, I propose the tourists should walk it whenever possible without motorized vehicles . And yet I agree it is challenging nevertheless, unless you immerse yourself in the history and values of the place. To give a glimpse of what you've missed, the Isurumuniya love couple, the mysterious start gate, several vast ancient man made tanks, and number of more enormous stupas just as huge as ruwanwali seya, best delicate carvings of (cornerstone?) mura gala, huge and delicately planned ancient monks residential areas at maha vihara, samadhi statue, coupled ponds (kuttam pokuna), just around the corners from where you have been. The problem is even the guides are doubtful about explaining everything of value here, because they are afraid of overwhelming the visitors. For example, you just passed by a once seven storied building without even noticing. So it will be helpful if you read-up a bit and plan your visit before arriving at the place. Why Sri Lanka tourism guy have undermined these? i don't know. :'( You two, go there again!. Go again.!
This City and Sri Lanka has more than 5000 years history. It may be 150000 years. Sri Lanka is the Land who created the world first Manu Sammatha King.

Nice work brother....
There are many more places at Anuradhapura to visit. It will take few days if you are going to cover all these places. Mihinthalaya also has a great view and lot of things to see. It is surprising that your guide does not know about other places. 🤔
This is the city that began the civilization of Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
Good job Johnny... I really enjoy ur videos about SL. Keep up the good work brother...
Hi Johnny, Hope you have covered Abhayagiriya, Jethavanaramaya, Mirisavatiya, Kuttam Pokuna (Pair of Ponds), Samadhi Buddha Statue, Lowa Maha Paya and other sites in Anuradhapura. Waiting to see...
Wow, Beautiful temple
love you all from sri lanka
Sadu, sadu, sadu, thank you very much jhonny , i worshipped it from here ,may our tripple gem bless you..🙏
Polonnaruwa Kingdom was mostly constructed from Bricks ,where as many monuments in Anuradhapura created from Stones.. Once reservoirs were destroyed during internal conflicts and Magha the Tyrant's rule ..those were ideal breeding grounds for Mosquitoes fragmented villages were more or less inhabitable.Few people returned to Polonnaruwa After South Indian Magha 's rule was over, yet man power was not enough to renovate the vast swaths of Reservoirs or buildings and continuous shift of Kingdoms towards south west ensured It's glory would be disappeared through the sands of time
Very informative .nice video ..
Johnny, You're having only likenesses ....no one disliked yet...🙏🙏🙏🙏

You didnt get full complete details about Ruwanweli stupa from your guide...great details are there about King Gemunu n stupa....that's about 2000 years ago.....
Same time you could see the start gate at Ranmasu Uyana....that is old more than 6000 years and 3rd Star Gate in the world.... for that you need to read about King Rawana....
Great video thank you🙏❤️
Our Buddhist temple No 1 heart of the place Buddha tooth relics Anuradhapura. Jayasirimaha Boodhiya too Nice vidio Jony. Sadu sadu saaaa duuu.
You two, go there again!. Go again.!
Agree with you
This City and Sri Lanka has more than 5000 years history. It may be 150000 years. Sri Lanka is the Land who created the world first Manu Sammatha King.
