Fear in the OT is a mis-translation of the original Hebrew. The word יראה - transliterated as Yirah means awe . So really feeling AWE is indeed the beginning of wisdom
This is like "Thou shalt not take the name of the lord thy God in vain" the proper Hebrew translation (at least as I understand it) is thou shall not CARRY the lords name in vain. Instead of meaning don't invoke gods name as a curse (as in God damn it!), it means do not enact evil or vanity on the ground that "God wills it" (literally deus vult, though I am not saying the crusades were evil or vain, there is a complex history there).
This is soo good. It shouldn't even need to be said. Yet we live in a society ruled by fear. In my own life I can attest to feeling better when I follow my joy. Now it's just a matter of applying that more broadly.
Anecdote on buying of clothes: I have been informed recently that one may be able to buy clothes and return them after a time, as a tactic for perfecting one's credit score without paying tons of interest. Interesting to contemplate the utility of these devices.
People dont unlearn the fear of dying in general though ... their life projects -- and the meaning that they imbue it with -- will be defended vigorously if you challenge it.
Bible is a very good book that is geared towards self recognition or building up your spirit but in my opinion uses a different type of sharing the knowledge than greek system with's its logic. In order to understand old testament sentences you need to go back to the meaning of words not even from the times of Jesus but to ancient hebrew from the time of Moses. At least thats what i have thought to my self. This hebrew was written in pictograms so you need to read them more like definition of a word than like an abstract concept. I have tried to do this my self and i think i went close enough with my translations to say that i am right here. The context for example gave me reasurance that i was in "those places" were truth abides if i may say so. Than i stumbled upon some christian pastor ..... here is a page about him: www.wildbranch.org/about/brad-scott.html . He is learned in greek and hebrew and he reasured me that i am on the right track. as an example i will give you his translation of grace and faith. Grace is like "a tent " so its like a shelter wich God (the keeper of knowledge as we read in the book of Sirach for example) is giving us as a place of dwelling (the pastor gives you also the cultural meaning of it). And faith is like a pin that holds that shelter. For me it makes sense. As to my translations i may say what i have translated but since im not a professor nor i am learned in those languages i will withold from it. I write that cause i remember listening once to a guy talking about his father apparently well educated person i smiply cant remember if he was a philosopher or a famous writer from my country. This man that was talking about his father was saying that he was allways keen to speak with simple people cause in his understanding they may not be well educated but they had a philosophy of their own. And bible for that matter is a philosophical system in its own regard. A system that has helped people to survive over 5000 years or so. that being said i could read the sentece " fear of God is the beginning of wisdom" in that matter -" Not living in decadence(fear of God) but eagernes of searching the truth is the beginning of all wisdome". Let me shortly explain what i mean by that - "Much learning does not teach understanding" Hieraclitus. I hope i made clear enough what i had to say. So Mr. Cecil i wish you luck and growth on your intelectual journey for the benefit of us all.

Hey Wes... why aren't you vegan? We'd gladly welcome you into our ranks - eating fruit and veggies is certainly joyful, at least for me.
