So many people have written off EVs based on their experience of early models from OEMs and bad charging infrastructure as if chargers aren't being installed everywhere to the point there are already more chargers than gas stations. Soon they'll be ubiquitous and you'll charge at home, at work, when shopping, when dining out, whenever you pop out for 10 minutes to use the toilet on a journey and electricity will no longer be gouged but will be competitive and cheap most hours of the day. Finding a gas station will be the anxiety inducing method of refueling in just a few years.
Same with FSD. So many people don't seem to understand that technology gets better, exponentially. Short sighted is the norm.

At first I was like, I can't go the speed limit it's to slow in many cases but then I realized you can set it to aggressive and you can set it to go either a percentage amount over the speed limit or MPH over the speed limit and that works really well. I have it set in the Aggressive mode and 25 miles per hour over the speed limit... that doesn't mean it will go 25 mph over the speed limit all the time...somehow it figures out what the right speed should be (at least for me it has) Like there is a road leading to my house and the speed limit is 25 MPH but it's a wide road, not busy and not many side streets. With the settings I have FSD usually goes about 36 or 37 mph

Why is Robotaxi over Model “2” probably the best and most intelligent strategy ?
The two(2) most important, impactful, and financially beneficial commercial products
that Tesla will develop are (in chronological order) :
    1) Full Self Driving (FSD)
    2) Optimus Robot = requires FSD to be solved
In order to finalize and solve FSD quickly, it is necessary as many vehicles as possible
on the road and utilizing FSD as soon as possible.
Purchasers of a NEW Model “2” with an Estimated Purchase Price of ~ $ 25,000
most likely not be able to afford to pay ~ $12,000 or 50% MORE than the vehicle for FSD.
As a result, the majority of the Model “2”s would be on the road with NO FSD,
and would not be helping the mission to solve FSD.
On the other, Tesla could mandate that ALL Robotaxis be equipped with and utilize FSD.
And this strategy will be especially easy if, in fact, Tesla IS the actual Robotaxi owner / operator.
    Thus, leading with Robotaxi will lead to the quicker solution on FSD for Tesla vehicles;
but more importantly, quicker FSD Licensing to other Automotive Companies.
FSD Licensing estimated +80% Profit Margin and is well above Vehicle Profit ~ 15%
And, with NO Capital Infrastructure Investment and NO Manufacturing Costs,
    Tesla’s Overall Profitability soars.
    And then . . . . . . with FSD . . . . . there is Optimus . . . . . .

If you truly have level 5 FSD why would you ever sell or license it for less than 100k? The idea that a 25k car and a robo taxi would exist in the same world makes zero sense. If all you need is basic transportation why would you want the expense of a person vehicle if robo taxis are super cheap And ubiquitous?

Steven. I've been following Tesla since 2010. Huge fan. FSD isn't amazing in rural Tennessee. It's great on the highway and straight country roads but It's not fantastic in town, coming to stop signs or stop lights, on and off ramps are pretty bad, turning after a stop is hilarious.
It often doesn't know the speed limit on country roads. Thinks it's 55 mph the entire way when it changes from 65 mph to 30 mph.
It's useful about 25% of the time in my situation. Unfortunately, FSD is only slightly better than advanced auto pilot for me.

3 years ago, my FSD was like driving with a 16 year old with a new learners permit.
Fast forward, my FSD drives me door to door 100 miles each way, yes each way, to & from work, everyday, as a silent passenger.
It is still unbelievable by colleagues of mine who ask me about the FSD experience. FSD is that addictive, and that's coming from a professional racer who loves driving.
My only comparable answer to people who don't believe me, is to take their cell away from them, and ask them a question or directions they would instinctively reach for their phone for an answer.
FSD has become, my most satisfying investment of all time.

Tesla can be the TSMC of EV manufacturing. They will of course only need to use TSMC for fabricating their D1 chips for Dojo and the rest can be done in house.

They will use TSMC & Nvidia for quite likely another decade. The sheer physifal scale Tesla needs just for training is massive (although less than it would have been 5 years ago)
The chips they need for their cars. Forget it! Tesla needs to eventually make 80% then 95% of their chips in house imo.

The only hybrid that ever makes sense would be future military applications that require less dependancy on electric infrastructure by using diesel generator powered electric propulsion vehicles similar to diesel trains in function. Outside of that, they’re just convoluted overpriced waste of resources.

  • @klydevillalord2405
    @klydevillalord2405 หลายเดือนก่อน

12:52 if they can make hybrids then they can definitely make EVs. I know it is much more complex than just removing the Combustion Engine in a Hybrid and you're left with an EV kind of thing but if they tried even just a little. Imagine it. Most hybrids can go at most 50 miles. Meaning of they remove the ICE in the Hybrids then they get much more range out of their Batteries. It might be a win win. I guess they can't suddenly ditch the ICE manufacturing lines that fast. With that, they are able to sell it for much cheaper.

The problem with legacy auto is ICE cars are way too expensive. No one can afford to buy cars anymore while EVs reached a plateau at this juncture. Until battery prices actually declines and it doesn’t cost $22K to replace a defective battery, the FUD remains. So 2024 remains an uncertain year. Hopefully 2025 will be a better economic year.

I Have all 3 cars! Gas (Expedition & Mustang), Hybrid(F150 & Maverick), Tesla (Model Y Performance).. An 8hr ride in the Tesla takes more than 10hrs with at least 4x to stop and don't even get me started on how much the family spends on snacks... The hybrid doesn't even need 1 stop! The gas vehicle requires at least 1 stop... Hybrid with better regenerative 1 pedal braking and larger battery is the winner... Unless Tesla can make a bigger battery! As for the FSD, its pretty cool, but it doesn't work good. It can't pass properly on interstate or in town. It waits to the last few minutes or 1/2 mile to get off at the exit, and if a car is there it slams on the brakes and barely makes the exit... almost every time! Its getting better, but it still has lots of progress before it can be acceptable. Hopefully this 30 day trial can give enough data to fix most of the problems it has. There are Many! Love the Tesla for around town and short 2.5 hr trips. FSD... It can probably get you there, but its scary! It drives like a teenager with its restricted license.. lots of bad decisions... Especially those unnecessary lane changes that it struggles to make and being in the wrong lane continuously!

  • @seenthemoment

Some of the remaining hesitancy of FSD comes from cautiousness. However, some other hesitancy, especially at stop signs, is NHSA imposed. NHSA requires a complete stop at a stop sign, even with no other vehicles in sight. It feels inhuman and can become irritating, both to the driver and anyone following. I hope the regulators get their act together.

When it comes to FSD... They say that it will be cheaper than Uber per mile. Because, with Uber they talk about the dollar amount per mile being higher because they have to pay the driver. BUT... the cost of the car would have to be included in the robotaxi calculation. The Uber driver provides his/her car to Uber for free. The market cap of Uber is roughly $150 billion with a P/E of 82. Even if you 3x the market cap and add it to Tesla's market cap, that would just about get them back to all time highs. And that would be with a very high P/E. The estimates that FSD will make Tesla a $10 trillion dollar company are pathologically exaggerated.

SMR the comparison with horse and cart is unfair LoL The horse and cart had one very specific advantage over the ICE engine automobile! The horse could be viewed as the fore runner to what we will eventually trend towards in so much as the horse and cart was the original autonomous transport system. The horse could autonomously transport the cart wherever it liked (unfortunately this had the draw back of the horse not necessarily having the same intended destination as the transportee [maybe a new word there LoL])... The advantages were manifold, no range anxiety as the horse could be replaced with a fresh horse at any point, high utilisation because the horse could take a load of cart parts to one destination and then hook up with a different cart to take a wagon of people to another location etc... I believe that we will whitness a swift move towards MoverBots (electric horses) and various carts once UNSUPERVISED autonomy is available!

I prefer Supervised FSD over unaided driving by a wide margin. Makes my trips safer, more fun and less tiring.
    BUT:
I ran up over 15 hours on V12.3.3. I've done an hour or three on V12.3.4, so far. My disengagements are normally at tight turns at all-way stops with ditches. I find myself having to give it accelerator at times, and at other times wish it would take it a lot easier (it actually scratched off (first time ever in 9,000+ miles of driving) turning right from a side street onto a four lane 40 mph road with no oncoming traffic! Merging onto highways sucks, as Ego likes to take the merge lane out until it ends and then kamikaze its way over. so I will disengage getting out of the merge lane. I often disengage with the brake in stop-and-go traffic, as FSD will sometimes brake very late. I'm waiting for the next version (like V13 or V14) before I'll trust it to turn into my driveway (it tends to swing too wide, and the culvert that my driveway bridges is deep.)
There are a few other things it does wrong, some requiring disengagement for comfort, more so (but not exclusively so) than for safety.

In southern Ontario, Canada, FSD v12.3.4 on 400 series (multilane highways) is better then human drivers. I've driven on several including a trip to downtown Toronto. Very confident and fabulous. On gravel roads, it can't always determine the edge of the road and beginning of the shoulder (which is also gravel) and it drives too close to the road edge. Not perfect but it's awesome. At around 12 minutes in, you mentioned that a hybrid system is more complex . You've got a complex petrol system and then you've got a complex electrical power train as well!
This is a good strategy for the legacy motor industry. Think about it they build cars, and sell them for not much more than cost.
They make money on repairs and servicing. So now you have climate change as the driver to build a more complicated vehicle using new, untried systems, which will result in more problems, more parts to replace more possibilities of breakdowns.
Hybrid allows the legacy motor industry to improve on its tried and tested method of generating income!
