    You are likely the best robot designer and builder on TH-cam.
    I hope you make your Ultron super smart so people at shows can chat with him.
    Keep up the amazing work James!

    The motions are so smooth, truly amazing thus far. Also thought it would make more noise once everything is moving around together but it's pretty quiet.

  • @nilok7
    @nilok7 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is really awesome.
    One thing I do worry about is the shudder in the movement, which caused one of the panels to fall off Ultron, and when both arms swing forwards possibly causing Ultron to tip over.

    Im surprised disney doesn't have something like this already. Has anyone else done this animatronic motion capture puppet idea?

    • @williamrutherford553
      @williamrutherford553 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      probably. But there's really no use for it. If you're going to do motion capture, why not just use animation instead? How often do you need puppeteering by a person in real time, that you couldn't just program beforehand?

    • @JackSpiggle
      @JackSpiggle 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Almost all animatronics in film already are controlled on the spot and have been since the their conception. Normally many puppeteers with hobby grade remote controllers and/or cables (and yes. sometime custom built motion control units, not quite like this tho) will control features like facial animation and fingers while a puppeteer (or for larger animatronics, puppeteers) within the suit will control the major movements.

    • @JackSpiggle
      @JackSpiggle 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those sort of things are really quite amazing no doubt but I find the same problem with all motion capture technology: motion captured movements will always be less than real life while more traditional animation strives to make movements more real than real. This is why in many cases a motion capture animation will be used simply as a base for an animator to then go back in and hand animate to push it to its limits.

    Kids, they grow up so fast.. seems like only yesterday he was knee high of an actuator :-D
    James, you couldn't redesign his chest plates to give more range of motion? allow them to move inward like giant plastic pectorals a bit like hulkbusters back doors??

    you should add a feature in the head where you can see what it sees

  • @Evanski
    @Evanski 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think you should redesign the shoulders as a ball joint and when the arm is straight down give it 180movement on the y so moving your arm straight up above your head and straight down
    90 on the (X?) so you move your straight out to the left (if left arm) then that should have 360rotaion but only straight out to the left like that
    Then the elbow should only be 90 bend no matter what rotation the shoulder is in
    Not sure if it would improve how his arm moves but i think it should help alot
    Sorry if this is confusing to understand

  • @CharlieTheBritt
    @CharlieTheBritt 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    puppeteering the entire body would be too hard in tandem, do you think if you gave the little guy long legs you could strap to yours you'd have a natural walking? also how do you plan on keeping him upright, like weighted feet?
    ps. this is so sick 👍

    are you going to do any weathering on the plastic bits to make them look a bit more metallic?

  • @Lichemaster
    @Lichemaster 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have one question. Would it be easier to install three position switch on this puppeteering rig to control behavior of other hand? Insted of switching the positions of legs? I understand that in full body suit it will be easy to just make a step but in this rig you have to stop controlling body, work around legs, make sure that it stays stable, go back to puppeteering. Switch will make it more smooth in transition.

    • @Lichemaster
      @Lichemaster 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean reduce amount of sensors. If I'm correct you are swiching modes of non-motion controlled from mirror to oposite moves by positioning leg sensors i diferent positions relative to each other. So when you are using this little 3d printed rig you need to leave head and arm and switch leg position to change non-motion controlled mode. Insted You can use switch that decleres if non-motion controlled arm should be in mirror or oposite mode. That reduce number of needed sensors by two, and make puppeteering more fluent. If You want to refer to prosthetic arm you can put that switch on palm similar to Ant-man "scaling"button. I hope I'm more clear naow, english is my second language.

    Wouldn't it be easier to take the magnetometers and put them on a second left arm on the puppet, I think it would be easier to puppeteer ultron then, at least for the public?

  • @elorrambasdo5233
    @elorrambasdo5233 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    if it took 2 sensors to make the arm work, and you are using 2 sensors to for the legs to make the other arm move, why don't you just have those latter sensors just tell the other arm where to go. You don't need the abstraction of the legs, you can just record the other arm's movements.

  • @mipe3844
    @mipe3844 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I probably just missed/forgot your reasoning behind that decision, but why did you choose to go with that complicated solution with two motion capture sensors on the legs (when your Ultron robot has no legs)? Wouldn't it be easier to just use those two sensors on the right arm, thus making BOTH arms fully and independently puppeteerable?
