The disadvantage of wiring anything up constantly hot to the bike from the trailer is that should you forget to turn off your light or whatever is connected to the 6th wire, you will kill the battery on the bike. That is why most trailers will connect the interior light to the running light circuit. So you don't kill the bike's battery.

I have two bikes both use the 5 wire plug to 1 trailer. I can never leave the dome light on with the bike off. My cycle mate trailer is 22 years old , looks brand new and I never came out of the hotel with a dead battery.

Chris - Can the rear wheel be removed with the hitch? Do you have to remove the entire hitch to remove the rear wheel?
