@@hendipetranus3255the earth may shift its planetary position with Venus which will start a new bacterial species. I’m kidding. Nothing will happen. You can solder them together. No signal is being sent down pin 3. It’s only hot and ground. If you are using a TS connector, 1 and 2 are fine.

Hi Billy, when we built a cable XLR to RCA, is it the best way to connect "positive to positive end" and than mix the "Negative and the Ground (from XLR)" to the "Ground of RCA" ? Or is it best way to do it "positive to positive end" and than take only the ground from XLR and carry it to the RCA ground by leaving the negative empty on XLR ? Thank you

You should only use pin 2 (hot) and pin 1 (ground) on the XLR.

Thank you for the answer, what it would do if i involve Pin3 to the Ground?

@@thekarga I don’t wire pin 3 with RCA - XLR and have never had a problem. It all depends on how the equipment is wired internally. Pin 2 + and pin 1 ground are constants. The variable is pin 3. This depends on whether transformers are in the equation or not. Experiment with jumping pin 1 & 3. It may be fine, it may be noisy, it may mess with the phase, or you may just achieve audio nirvana.

@@billylaguardia I hope so, I'm connection and preparing the cable right now from SMSL VMV D1se (XLR) to Antique Sound Lab AQ1001 (RCA). Thank you for the help.

Your method completely defeats the purpose of the strain relief on the RCA end. The strain relief chuck should always contact the outer jacket and not put pressure on the inner conductors/drain wire. If things don't fit, maybe choose a different cable. Not everything needs to be Starquad.

is it ok to short pin 1&3 on the XLR?

I generally don’t in the XLR to RCA format. I haven’t had a problem with noise. That being said, if you had noise using pins 1 & 2 only, wiring 1 & 3 together may solve the problem. It all depends on the equipment that you are connecting and how it’s wired internally. I do wire pins 1 & 3 together on 1/4” jacks when I am making unbalanced inputs on rack panels. I think the 1/4” variety of cables are more problematic when connecting balanced (TRS) and unbalanced (TS) signals together. The way 1/4” jacks are designed, using a balanced cable in an unbalanced jack lifts the ground since ground prong touches ring portion of the connector and not the sleeve which is why you wire them together.

Hey man so I have a home theater av receiver with red and white stero rca and I have an amplifier qsc 1450a you think this cables would work? I want to use my home theater speakers it’s cheap lol but I don’t have space for speakers

The RMX 1450 amp has a barrier strip on the back. The easiest thing to do would be to cut the end off of an RCA cable and use the bare wire with the barrier strip. The tip of the RCA is + and the shield would go to ground.

I'm sorry, did you mean to say a XLR to RCA Adapter? Because thats what it is. Your title is backwards.
