    Thank you very much for this video. I too have wondered what the different methods are for finishing a panel. I was not aware that the fabric manufacturers had instructions on their web site for finishing a panel.

    Going on a bus trip to Missouri Star this fall…. Guess what’s on by “must have” list? Panels panels and more panels…. One style I love is the “fractured “ look where the panel is sliced up and put back together with sashing to make gorgeous wall hangings. It’ll be interesting to see what shows up on the Facebook group page. Thanks Becky for boosting the confidence of new quilters.

    Hello, I'm new watching your channel, I was looking for a video on a panel quilt I made years ago to revisit the instructions. You know how this works one leads to another etc. Glad to see ya. I had to laugh out loud at the comment about your grandson 5 . hot wheels have been around since before my husband and still going strong. My eldest son still is collecting @ 50, Of course he also collects full sized trucks. hahaha. I made the big red truck into a lap for his 50th last December and just last week found another red truck panel for my baby son 42 . Have fun

    I made a book panel into a quilt for my grandson for his 1st bday and it came out so sweet that I got him one that is a pirate theme for his 2nd bday. All I did was make squares to equal the panel pages and sew them into postage stamp blocks added a border and backing and it was ready to quilt and bind

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A bias cut is a diagonal cut. Like cutting a square that has been cut on the straight-of-grain and then cutting it on the diagonal. Bias cuts have stretch where cuts on the straight of grain do not.

    I tried panels a couple times. Never again. The squares were wonky. I even tried asking a few on you tube how to square up the squares. I got smacked down like I'm an idiot or like I was trying to hurl snark. Ok my masters in international law gives me confidence I'm not stupid but when it comes to working with fabric I am stupid. I give up. No panels ever.

    • @ettakaynickel6148
      @ettakaynickel6148 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t give up on panels. They are printed a little off. Sorry you met up with naysayers and had negative experience. If you know they are off just do your best making them appear correct. Once it is made into a throw of some type no one notices that they began their panel life as needing to be squared up or evened up.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, sometimes panels are printed off grain. There is a way to torque them in opposite directions across the grain to straighten it out. Please please don't give up on them because they make beautiful wall hangings. Don't let the quikt police ruin your fun.
