Hey gang! Just a heads up, but there was ONE request for Rich Williams - I just looked! It was posted over two years ago and was requested by "@blackmetalgolfer6007" Anyway, I was mistaken and should've looked before filming this episode. I just wanted to give the viewer that asked for this lesson props - nice request "@blackmetalgolfer6007!" ROCK ON!
Hello. There is a great guitar solo by Kerry, then Rich. It is considered a bonus track on 1978's live album, Two for the Show. The song is called Child of Innocence. The guitar solos are at the beginning of the song. It's like a intro jam. Kerry's first and then briefly at the end it is Rich, then they go into the song. The tone of both them is really great!!! Pure cranked Marshall tone!!!
Hey gang, not a big deal, but I did notice that I ended the last lick in this lesson differently than Rich did. I went up to grab the final Bb note, while he went down to grab it. Like I said, not a huge mistake, but I always try my best to play these licks the way they were performed. Anyway, it's the same note, just a different way of getting there! ROCK ON! 😏👍
I saw Kansas during Monolith tour. Best show i have ever seen and I remember seeing Rich's guitars all surrounding him with the lights glimmering. Really left an impression to say the least
When I met Steve Walsh, I mentioned FREAKS OF NATURE as being MY favorite KANSAS album. He thanked me & replied that He had a new solo record coming out called Glossolalia. That MFing offering is on FIRE!!!
He was never overlooked to me .... I saw Kansas several time and had front row at the little Stanley theater in Pittsburgh in 1975 ...I was so moved to watch Rich Williams' playing style....He wasn't a riff player, and he wasn't really a lick player, He played these tight, intricate lines that really gave the band that needed dimension. Thanks for bringing attention this awesome musician.
Love me some Rich Williams! I'd recommend the acoustic solo on Two for the Show or the jaw-dropping guitar interplay on Lightning's Hand from the Point of Know Return album.
F%$! YEAH!!! Rich Williams IS my guitar hero! Kansas's 1995 album "Freaks Of Nature" blew my mind as a teenager, as Rich's "Meatwall" tone & playing was unlike anything I had heard at that time. I'm still a fan of his work to this day, and I'm thrilled that this video was put together.
I met Kerry and Smokin Dave backstage in Greensboro NC after an idiot has set off a tear gas canister in front of the stage right before final encore. I remember those Dean guitars distinctly btw lol!
thanks Dave, Some awesome sounding licks, and as you said, not overly complicated but they are right there in the pocket and they fit perfectly. I love it when guys like RW have been devoted to the band since day dot. While I honestly haven’t devoted too much time getting into Kansas, I am sure there’s heaps of guys & girls out there how have enjoyed today’s lessen and would like to hear a whole lot more from RW. cheers Ewan
David, you overlook a great british guitarist named Andy Partridge from a band called XTC, from the late 70s/early-mid 80s. He had some great ideas. One particular tune I was listening to a few days ago called Life Begins At The Hop features the most unexpected chords by Partridge, if you single them out with a discerning ear. He was quite the guitar player without being too flashy doing solos. I would really like if you would listen to the albums Drums and Wires, Black Sea, and English Settlement, at least. You shouldn't be disappointed. Cheers!
@@rayross997 The BrewMeister has covered Golden Earring (I own everything George, Barry, Rinus & Cesar have ever done!). NAZARETH were SO DYNAMIC & so much more than their popular accolades.
David I'd like to request an under the radar player named Michael Gurley of the band dada. It's a 3 piece so he fills a lot of sonic space. Super tasty & inventive. Check him out & thank me later! LOL

@@LateNightLessons I would say a little bit better than a nice request. That’s a killer request!
While you're taking requests, jump on some Mother's Finest, please. Thanks for the Kansas love!

I remember those old issues of Guitar Player magazine and the Dean guitar ads with the scimpily clad women.
Scantily too!!!
Scantily! That's the word I was looking for! 😂

What do you think of the dean Cadillac? I personally love it
Kansas was my first concert … I was 8 and my mom took me. The “monolith” tour.
thanks for interesting lesson! How about to put the spotlight on Mike Slamer now! A killer guitarplayer!
Mysteries & Mayhem off Masque...my fav
Dave Hope is also a monster.
My fav bass player of all time ...always played the best sounding notes and awesome tone.
Thanks! Requesting Manny Charlton of Nazareth, Randy Bachman & Kim Mitchell & George Kooymans. Take care everyone.

DB, looks like a new amp there .. Whatcha got?
Have you covered Point Blank?
Probably the wrong video to post this, however; any chance of your slipping it in with some Black Flag?
I love so many guitarist you go to. But, you go to fast. Can you please just make your videos a little longer and slow down with your instructions?
