I’m in love from the moment i saw this car first time, back in 95,96. That moment when we were chasing on long boulevard, bought me forever!!! And i still wait the right moment to get one!!!
It’s already a classic. It used to be the cheapo in my garage (Black LE, mint condition, bone stock) but as years go by it becomes clearer and clearer how truly special this car is. The shape ages extraordinarily well - it is a spectacular looking car. And, most importantly, it drives the part. The 5cylinder (actually a Lancia design supposed to go in the Integrale successor that never came) is charismatic, nice turbo punch, still a fast car today in stock form and sounds superb. Punches for above its weight, even for the prices you are paying by now for a mint example
I own a 20vt coupe, what a car! Amazing performance and looks stunning even more beautiful than most modern day sports cars. Mine has a stage 3 turbo in it and has been resprayed lime green, love it!
Nice. Mines a stage 3 hybrid. Running 340bhp to the wheels, soon to be just shy of 350. As i just paid to import the stainless tubular turbo manifold from italy which is rated to give 7bhp depending on modifications done. I have a list of mods on my channel.
I've got a 20VT plus which i got from new in late 2000 in Malaysia. It's been off the road a few years now, but finally getting on with getting it restored and back on the road. Been trawling the net for Fiat Coupe videos the last few weeks and really can't wait to get it back. I miss it that much....
I’m from the USA and part of me wants to import a Fiat Coupe. But I WANTED the one with the I5T 20v. Mainly because of its Gran Turismo history. I remember playing that car in the game
I absoluty love these. My ultimate dream machine. Seen one when i was 9, got the 20vt 5 speed when i turned 23, then got the rarer plus 6 speed model just recently before my 31st birthday coming up on the 22nd. Only 40 of the 20vt plus models left on on the roads, 400ish 20vts left. Less than 20 16vts left closer to 10 i believe. Not sure on the L.E but thats the worst LOOKING with the mismatched exterior and interior colours, tho it has the best factory body kit. Mines good for 187mph 😃
I bought my first coupé new in 1997, a 1.8 16V. This was my daily driver til 2014. Now i have the 2.0 20V Turbo, second hand, that i bought in 2013. Fantastic cars and very reliable!
I am interested a lot on the 1.8 16v version. Is it worth it as daily driver? Is it durable or is it cheaply made? Can it support its age? And most importantly whats the fuel consumption?. Thanks a lot in advance any advice would help me decide. The design is one of my favourite
@@vasilisvks1448 My 1.8 was a perfect daily driver. It was very relaible and the fuel consumption was 8 a 8,5 litres/100 km. The only issue these days are the parts, that some times are hard to find
How many Left Hand Drives did they make? I'm thinking of getting one imported to the UK; I don't mind what year or model, it's just gotta be LHD and red...
@@karlhurn the us has a 25 year import restriction law. the fiat coupe is eligible for import now and i've been through a few lists of cars that people want to bring in. i've never seen the fiat coupe on one of the lists. the top of the list car is almost always a nissan skyline gtr.
I can of course not prove it but I said to myself that this would become a classic the first time I ever saw it, much more then the Barchetta actually, which initialy stole much of its limelight. It's about the only car I would have sold my Citroën XM for, although that was / is obviously much more practical. You don't fold a bicycle into a Fiat Coupe without even taken it's front wheel out! Furthermore XM's hardly rust. But designwise they are, in spite of their differing concepts, on a par as far as I am concerned. Nothing built later would make me me part with one of both. There is hardly any higher personal praise I can put upon it. Alas I never drove or owned a Coupé but I just refurbished my 3rd XM. :-)
FIAT had should named the car "Dino" instead of Coupe - only offering the 20VT version. Perhaps the intake manifold or something like that could have come directly from Ferrari, so that they could attach a small Ferrari emblem to the engine - "FIAT by Ferrari" like in the Lancia Thema 8.32... The car would be a desired classic now!!!
Yeah a very unappreciated car, these even 10+ years ago were said to be a future classic, I really don't think they will... I own 2 20vt's one is a plus, still looking for an Uno turbo though... why do we love these, when the rest of the world seems to fall over themselves for a basic Ford?
I’d like to say it’s because the Italian stuff rusts like crazy, that’s why they’re avoided, but the Ford stuff does too. Could be the humble underpinnings of the Fiat Coupe perhaps? But they drive great and are lovely to look at.
@@karlhurn Yes the underpinnings weren't the best, but a lot of cars at that time shared it, the Coupe's shape helped a little. I find the 20vt's can overwhelm the grip at a start off, but when you are "going" you can settle into an understanding of the balance. I have driven Escorts and Cortina's, I must say they feel good, not quite that I'm going to die if I don't pay attention feel. I have other cars as well as these, but I enjoy driving these, the sound is one of these best things, that 5 cylinder and turbo... 220hp, anyone remember what else was around at the time that was up against these?
This car has a race engine that block Can take lots of power, i have the 20v non turbo 155 hp i Know its semiclosed block, whithout engine upgrade it takes about 500hp, so i imagin the Lancia 4 cylinder Can take more whithout touching the engine.
Youd be wrong there mate. The 20vt is a closed deck. Im sure the na is closed also....? Be weird to have two different designs for just taking the turbo off/putting a turbo on.

Well said. Great car 👍
The Fiat coupe is one of those cars that is looking better and better as the years go by.
i own a moon grey 20vt plus. 400bhp. love it. no money in the world or no car swap in the world could part me with it.
might stick a video up of it. or might wait till ive got cambelt and new turbo etc fitted in july then upload a vid.

Not sure. Must be many more left hand drive cars than right hand drive ones.
I test drove a 16V turbo a couple years back, but ended up with a Alfa GTV 3.0 24V instead.
Both were fun but expensive to keep
Yeh alfa interior is horrible. V6 is nice. But ultimately not worth it. The 16vt can be tuned very easily and make big power.
Bellissima!!! Turbo 16 e’ brutale!

is that 750 left in uk or total? wikipedia has total production through the years listed as 72k+.
750 left still on the road in the UK now in 2020.

Bangles Masterpiece was the Coupé FIAT, in the BMW Time he was not so lucky - in my Opinion.
in my opinion this is the most balanced version with maximum performance, hard to find one.

What is the likelihood of getting one of these in the United States?
Earlier models are over 25’years old so it should be relatively easy to import one from Europe.

The 20vt can make upto 400bhp on completely standard internals. The 16vt lancia 4 pot around 260bhp.
The camshafts on the 16vt engine are very very soft, will need very regular oil changes in order to avoid excessive wear in a short amount of time.
