    I appreciate the forearm exercises and the the discussion about the open style of playing rather than staying down low to achieve speed. Even after 35 years of playing and working with machines industrial settings, there is always something new to learn, a new layer, a different facet;
    I love your technique. It shows me how rigid mine has become over time. Thank you for taking the time to share this with us!

    She's so badass. I started playing hair guitar in the 80s. My daughter started playing drums 3 yrs ago at 7yrs old. She's 11 now. Has such natural skill and talent, but she doesn't play enough. She's on her phone. Maybe it's her age. When I started in 85, I was obsessed. Played 2-3 hours daily. I was 15. She plays at band practice and shows. She is in a kid band and has gotten to play in some large local shows because of her friendship with the drummer of a hugely popular local band. She saw him play at 7 and was mesmerized . I started the exact same way in 85. I find instructional videos of drummers and try to get her to interested. Her band does 80s hair covers- Dio, Foreigner, Pat Benatar, Metallica, etc. She kills em. Being a hair guitar player, I was so proud of her. It's so great to have female drummers who do instructions. She's a sick player.

      I'm beginning to believe that there's nothing she can't do on a drum kit. She's such a certified beast that the MCU is writing a character around her. She's marvelously insanely good. And when I FIRST heard her I was blown away but saw her on snare... when I heard she was a kit drummer I was optimistic but I was like "there's no way she's that tight on a whole kit, especially with such an extensive background on JUST snare, it would be impos-" and then I saw some footage. I was like "nope. NOT HUMAN." She's certified as shit.

    I heard of her but I admit this is the first time I see her. That smile says it all: play with joy. You have to have a goodtime while playing. I got a new drummer to follow (that book looks pretty interesting). I play drums since 1988 and I do a lot of exercises and the forearm was something I never thought about (I still do exercises on my legs, just over the knee.. and it hurts a bit). I will try. Because it's time to introduce my son (a natural born percussion player.. yes, I'm lucky!) to some easy techniques for hands and wrist control.

  • @dustyhills8911
    @dustyhills8911 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sometimes smiling doesn't really fit with the music, for instance playing metal. The ability to smile while playing is a product of relaxing though, and that comes with having great technique so you're not working so hard. This is something I've been trying to work on, and something about Emmanuelle's playing that I admire. The goal is to get your hands do what your brain tells them to do without much effort, and doing a lot of hard work on fundamentals is the way to get there. Here's to hitting the practice pad! Good stuff, Drumeo!!!

    I had pretty bad anxiety growing up and I was always told to smile and even once when I was on the drums. I think as I’ve gotten older I’ve realised not to take everything so seriously and just enjoy myself.

    • @Chiroman527

      LF, Me Too !! I'm 70 yo, unfortunately I always suffered with Anxiety isues from childhood, from Nail biting at 7, to full blown Panic attacks 30 years later. Without the analysis of Psychological issues (I have found that anxiety stems from Psyche issues mixed in Physical issues), playing Drums or any instrument for that matter can help to Control Anxiety. I resurged / resurrected my interest in drumming after 50 Years. I am retired and play in my basement to My Music recreationally. I try NOT to let my playing Frustrate me... I'm Not going to be Neil Peart, Or Keith Moon or Ginger Baker (my Heros - R.I.P.), but I can keep up with Charlie Watts (R.I.P.). SMILE... it's not always easy for anxious folks, but you have to try. I thank the Lord, that I have this interest. If I can be 1/4 as Good as Emmanuel, I would be a Happy Camper. PS... I play to My Music about 1 hour a day and don't really practice.

    • @vb2388
      @vb2388 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@tylerbailey9329 correct..
      Thus the “why so serious?” remark for drummers seems pretty cynical..
      Musicians can bring whatever character or personality they fancy while playing their instruments…its not necessary to showcase a certain type of mood…well atleast, I don’t consider it necessary..

    • @stevencarreiro5080
      @stevencarreiro5080 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Truth! ..mood while executing performance is a tricky subject, no matter the level of expertise displayed by the
      practitioner. Intensity is always 🔑 to quality performance. Musical Expression is distinctly linked as to = who & what you are, what & how you represent, your personality, mood, health, physicality ...it's an all in-gumbo, exposing where someone's ostensibly at (mentally/physically) ..and every single time we hit the bandstand too!
      *Smile: if it contributes to the expression of your musical creativity, otherwise don't.

    She's the best out of all the female youtube drummers. There are plenty of others who are sexy, flashy and spastic and a number who are actually quite good but Emmanuelle is like LEGIT good. Not just a youtube phenom. She has chops out the arse but doesn't show them off every 2 seconds. She plays with style and taste and when the time comes she matter of factly will throw off some pattern or single stroke roll that's like, wait, WTF was that?!?!

    YOU CAN SEE IT IN JARED'S EYES... When he keeps looking off camera at whoever he's looking at and they lock eyes, its like they're both thinking "This drummer is a BEAST. A FUCKING. BEAST. how in the FUCK is this person so goddamned TIGHT and PRECISE?!?!?!" when she's talking about the double strokes and she says that doing the exercise will help make doubles effortless jared looks off camera and this look comes over him like "HOW IN THE HELL IS THIS POSSIBLE? HOW CAN THIS PERSON BE THIS TIGHT AND CONSISTENT?" Its great. I remember the VERY FIRST TIME I watched emmanuelle caplette play a snare pattern. This was YEARS ago.... I kept rewinding the footage.... I couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing. She sounded like (and still sounds like) a machine with a soul.... so precise but with so much heart. I was blown away. This is possibly the most under-rated drummer in modern history.

    Emmanuelle really has hands as good as anyone. I love it how the excercises she is demonstrating are relatively simple, and they feel very familiar and relatable. However it is the execution of the excercises that makes them impressive. Super clean!

    25:10 talking without the alphabet is quite easy and most humans do it just fine. in fact, humanity went centuries of talking without the existence of any alphabet. I think it's very accurate to say , rudiments are to drumming as alphabet is to talking, in that millions of people can do one without the other just fine.

    It's ABOUT FREAKING TIME you stopped teasing us with clips (Instagram), & posted a FULL interview! I've been following her for a couple of years now, & her stick control is AMAZING! Not to mention, her unique groove! I can't explain it, but...she has a really interesting way of playing grooves. It's like behind the beat, yet almost on top of the beat, at the same time. She inhabits this weird "beat limbo" that makes her playing sound simple, yet NOT.

    Nice work, but needlessly complicated notation. Drop the 16th rests at 12:35. Just notate in 4/4 with a triplet over the 16ths. AND replace the last 16th rest of the 2nd BAR with a 1/4-note rest. Much simpler! -- IF we're in 4/4, of course.

I slowed some of videos down just get body-hand-wrist thing going. I'm taking lessons privately, and the book is too advanced for me. I'm still struggling with basic 16th note steady beats.
