“More of the same” - sums up just about most of the paintball market developments in the last decade. I’m ok that we’ve reached this level of minimal returns anymore, means that most of the mid level stuff on the market has been excellent in quality.
any mid level gun is more than enough to perform and have some fun on your local field.
It'll be a worthwhile option when they around $500 used.
Having played since the days of autocockers being the tournament gold standard, it's nice that all these modern guns can be expected to just work most of the time, and failure is an unexpected thing. The complaints being "I don't like the way it feels in my hands" being the biggest con for a marker blows my mind... I played speedball with a shoebox 4x4 with a vertical max-flow for a whole year... "don't like the way it feels in my hands" is an understatement. I love that new players can just buy an affordable marker and go play and get good at paintball without spending half their days trying to fix their gun.

As someone who's put roughly 30k-35k shots through my Era, it handles paint significantly better than both of my AMPs. On the perfect day with perfect paint, the difference is not super noticeable unless you shoot them at the same time in each hand. However on any mildly chilly day or with brittle/shitty paint, the Era just handles it so much better.
If you're a fan of the feel of an AMP or shocker in general. The ERA is a true upgrade. I would complain about the price tag, but every single company is raising their prices. So it would be unfair to say the price increase is just. I personally wish every marker was $50 but that's never happening.
I wish SP would remake the Impulse, based off of the ‘09 version.
I think DLX owns the ‘09 Impy patent, cause I know after Smart Parts went under, the Luxe came out the year later, DLX bought up and cannibalized all of the 09 Imp parts they could find.

I used to think shockers were just a slight step up from a invert mini. Then I bought a used RSX for only $100 from the pawnshop last year. And I absolutely love it! I was thinking of buying a Amp as they were on sale, and I like the mech frame. But the ERA is starting to look pretty good to me.

The 03 Shocker was my first electronic gun when I was 14. That thing brings back memories. Im glad I never got rid of it.
I’ve played with my AMP for 2 years in TXL and NGXL and absolutely love it. The guys on the team made fun of me (PE Guys) and said I got the only working AMP they have seen lol. I have not replaced any O-Rings yet. Been a solid gun for me.
I think gun upgrades are cool. Especially if the same manufacturers sell them.
I think $60 is fair for tool less eye covers.

Thanks for getting the luxe idol review out so quick! If this shoots almost the same as a amp then the idol will shoot almost the same as the tm40 since the idol has this bolt system in it.
Gotta be honest. I have the era and it handles paint so much better than both of my amps and buddies TM40s. After shooting the Idol myself, it shoots just as nice if not slightly better than the Era. Just had a tournament in the 30s/40s and didn't break a single ball compared to others breaking like crazy with high-end PEs.
My honest opinion of the Era/Idol is that if you like the Amp/TM40 and want to upgrade or are on the fence of which one to buy. Just go with the Era/Idol. If money is an issue, stick with a TM40 or Amp.
I've had the Era since late-November when they were first shipping. Have put around 30k-35k shots through it. About to pick up a second one as a backup for tourny days.
PunishersPB did a really nice test with all the relevant markers in cold weather and the Era blue everything out of the water. The TM40 also performed well. The 180r was a brick.

@vand1007 Were we watching the same video? The CS3, 180r, and era broke no paint, and all maintained consistent velocity. The dsr had a barrel break. The 180 was set to semi as they stated in the video, which is why the rof was lower and inconsistent. The tm40 broke paint, the force, m3, and lv2 flopped, but the lv series also has special settings for the cold that weren't used. That's hardly "blowing away" everything else and isn't a good performance from the tm40. 🤷♂️
Yea, the 180 actually performed well. I watched the video again and the M3+ had issues, not the 180r. I'm glad I was mistaken because PE is known for their reliability.@@b0lbi
My first marker was/is a gs mini. It’s got a 3pc barrel and a delrin trigger. It’s the only marker I WANT to play with. All other markers feel GIGANTIC in my hands. I’ve never felt the need to impulsively yank the bolt out so I can’t say I’m missing and quick release features either. It’s a good dilemma to have where my dream gun is 300 bucks new.

It would be nice if Field One could just release a G7R so I don’t have to shop around for a new gun. Updated eyes, tool less features, new board. The G6R market will go down. Some day…….
1:50 helps with weight reduction. Lighter than 180r and this is potential benefits for some players
That wasn’t the first shocker. The first shocker wasn’t made by smart parts. I think it was pneu ventures.
I love my ERA I went with it over the 180r and DSR+ and I haven't been disappointed. I think people complaining about it not having more tooless features and still having a knob on/off are just bitching about it just to bitch about something. Tooless features aren't needed. Players nowadays would lose their minds if they had to work on lets say something like an Angel or an older PE gun. Players nowadays expect all the tooless features and bash anything that doesn't compare. The ERA is a gun made for the actual hardcore player that wants a gun that can compete with any other gun on the market and cares more about shot quality and reliability than fancy unneeded features. It's also the cheapest marker platform to turn into mech. Historically the newer shockers have had cheaper mech frames than Dye and PE. People need to get over the fanciness and try these out.
If it was $200 less, maybe others would agree with you. But it competes with the 180R and the 180R has those features.

I hear ya about tool-less. Its kinda funny, now guns are so reliable you really don't need tool-less stuff. I would have loved tool-less features in 2005 when I had to take my gun apart every weekend though.

Its pretty much the deffinition of generic.
But generic can work for some. I am jaded as I have well over 40 markers in my collection to choose what I want to play with for the day, so the bias against all but the best, the best for the money, the most unusual or the most aesthetically pleasing really catch my attention

I'm curious about putting an era bolt in my TM40, no need to upgrade a solid platform in my opinion. It's been problem free for a while. I'm always down for a new bolt!
The stroke length of the ERA and TM40 are not the same. You risk the bolt slamming into the back of the barrel/insert.
It looks like the Luxe IDOL bolt is nearly, identical. Its possible that some parts may work from that.

@@PaintballRuinedMyLifeWouldn't be too surprising since the AMP and TM40 were very very similar, with the bolt being the same.
I have era 187 I believe it says on the case. It’s a custom ano and the first day I got I went and ran it in the rain for a full day and it ran rock solid I love it. I will say that right out of the box the trigger was not adjusted at all, it smacked the frame as a backstop. Another thing I noticed that kinda pissed me off was the 15’ barrel doesn’t fit in the case. They used the same exact case as the amp and you have to just squeeze that zipper around the barrel to make it fit. That was some bs for the price range on this marker. But it does run beautifully for me personally I do enjoy it!
187 is pretty great. The case...haha I'm with ya, kinda feel like the zipper is getting stressed too.
The foregrip will be a perfect size for my wife or daughter. Love the dramatized recreation acting. 😂
I don't understand why more marker manufacturers don't make the foregrip removable/adjustable.
I also find it funny that the Shocker gets picked on for the same ergonomic flaws Luxe's have, but you don't hear the Luxe camp complain about it as much.
Returning to the sport after 20 years of never thinking about paintball. Does kick actually matter??? I can't remember a paintball marker ever actually recoiling...
When people say build quality of shocker v PE. The hex heads are considerably smaller and less strength and longevity on shocker.

Rsx only had 3 problems, 2 of them were easily fixed. Loctite on the bolt speed screw, replace the bolt latch with the updated one, and then they sent everyone updated cans for free.
I'll say though, I ran my Bob Long Vice, Luxe tm40, and Dye dsr+ this weekend and the vice is still my favorite in terms of shot quality, reliability, and ergo's. If I could afford another gun I'd get a g6r but they went up high in price.
I think the DSR+ is gonna be the next gun I sell. Altogether reliability with my dsr+ has been somewhat poor. I've had some issues. The guy I got it from had leaks he couldn't figure out which was why he sold it to me in like new condition for cheap with a mech and electronic frame. I had to rebuild the bolt assembly, replace the outer can o rings, bolt guide/spool o rings, the solenoid spool o rings and spool o rings for the mech valve twice, then I put the im pro kit in and that had the new spool for the electronic noid and that fixed another leak in the frame by the trigger.
For the mech valve now that it's got the cold weather kit paired with the im pro kit it's decent but the ergo's are just too far off for me, they just aren't as good as the tm40 and even with all of the electronics removed and just the eye pipe it's still one of my heaviest guns. All personal preference for ergos.
Two of my teammates have era's and so far they've not had any issues, from what I've seen they also perform the best out of all the mid-high end guns in the extreme cold tying with the CS3, tm40 coming in 3rd and the ones
I want a G6R too, cant bring myself to pay $600 for a gun thats almost 15 years old lol

PE is the Glock of paintball. Shockers and DLX are sigs.
So there was two types on guns, 50 1/1 guns and 100 other guns. Dark list had the first crack at buying. The rest sold to anyone. You put down a deposit and then the final invoice covered the anno cost (you choice in anno) and if you wanted to add the mech frame and what not. Dark list is a drop list that was first open when rocky sold a dark tech tee. Everyone who bought a dark trix got on the list for future drops. They will be opening the list as a subscription to get early or only access to drops.

I could see the actual bolt being interchangeable, but not 100%.
No. The Era bolt stroke is longer and the tip of the bolt will hit your barrel. You could possibly add a second bumper o-ring in front of the sail and be good. But you'd need the bolt, bolt guide and the valve stem from the Era to make it work. An Amp bolt will work in an Era though
I thought on the tm40 at least, oring slid up (covering the port holes) made it have a softer shot? Didn’t you say the opposite here ?

I have an etek 5 and that thing is great! Unless youre playing in the cold. Around 45 degrees Fahrenheit the bolt likes to stick. Ive also used an etha 3. They are both wonderful markers! The main difference is the spool vs pop it and the internal macro line. Both guns are tremendous cant go wrong with either❤

knowing brad, probably stock. Put in the light ram, turn the sfr's wide open, and go from there. Watch the madmans lv tuning master guide

You will definitely need to move that oring in colder conditions thr ERA sputters if its below 40. Saw it for myself with multiple the past weekened. The ERA is just meh i like the changes made but its still a bad copy of the gamma core at the end of the day. 180R will remain supreme and practically indestructible.
The fact that a spool valve is the primary rental gun now shows how absolutely ridiculous the gamma cores reliability is

@vand1007 The 180r broke no paint and had a consistent velocity. It was in semi, not ramp. How is that "a brick"?
@@vand1007 That video has some flaws the LV2 also did not even shoot at all. When I have used the LV2 in freezing temps with 0 issues. I am not saying the era is bad but you will need that oring on the back location to get cold weather performance from first hand experience.
