From a Veterinarian in the US thank you so much for helping the bat. It is so rewarding to help whatever creatures we can whenever we can. Bats are just amazing and you did everything just right, including putting your safety first. Love your videos!

As one who has rescued my share of little brown bats...thank you! Bats are so misunderstood and vital for our eco system. They are quite docile and more trusting of humans than people realize. Another great video❤️

For some unknown unexplained reasons, which are all very good. Nikki and Jason seem to just find and help any person, pet, or animal in need. Just like true heroes, they prevail like angels from heaven. Add those touching facts that they care about and never run away from those challenges they face. Let's give credit to those close friends who drop in and help when called upon. So awesome they share with all of us who wait patiently for the next episode. You guys make this world a better place with acts of kindness and love.

"Da-da-na-na, Da-da-na-na, BAT TEAM!" (I so wanted to hear you sing it) Well done, you guys! How could you NOT try to save that poor little flying fox. I rescued a sickly bat from the small hoard (herd? flock? hmm, research needed, haha) that lived in my attic. I had the pleasure of watching a sunset departure of the insect gobblers and one fellow flopped onto the porch roof and tumbled to the ground. Same tactic - Bucket and towel! Then transferred (unceremoniously via slide-dump) into a Quaker oats container and off we went to local wildlife rescue. He didn't make it, rabies. :( And the onslaught of follow-up phone calls from the health department to ENSURE I didn't get bitten was over the top. Glad no one was hurt on the human side and that she healed and is back in her home. Bravo.

I have got to say that during these challenging times you have been an inspiration to me and to so many others. Instead of complaining about being stuck in a Fiji apartment, you inspired us by taking time out of each day to clean trash from the beach. Then there was Pip. Not only did you save this adorable little kitten but you also raised almost $18,000 to help the animal shelter in Fiji. But did you stop there? No, you took the time to tell the story of Mark's struggles with getting the drugs he needs. The part of this story that I found most inspiring was that it was never about what you and your followers were able to accomplish. Instead, it was all about Mark getting a new lease on life. And now today you rescue an injured bat. Not one that was injured on your boat but one that was injured on a neighboring boat. You could have ignored this situation, and most probably would, but you did not. You rescued this cute little bat. We see people getting awards for their accomplishments for singing a song or performing in a movie but we seldom see awards for people that truly inspire others with their goodness. Well I think if anyone deserves a reward it is you. You have had so many challenges and have had to work so hard for everything, yet despite it all, you continue to inspire all of us to be better and to take care of those that need our help. With all the strife in the world today, I am proud to say that I am a patron of your site and I take the opportunity whenever I can to share your amazing adventures and your inspirational actions with others! Great job!! I look forward each week to your inspirations. Oh, one more thing. You two are the most amazing story tellers. Without a doubt, the highlight of my Mondays (I'm in Korea so your postings are Mondays for me)

I'm so glad you were able to save the bat and that she was able to be released back to the islands!
I'm also glad that Garmin seems to be recovering well from the hacking incident a while back. I was very upset when the media coverage here was talking only about the effects of the hacking for people who own fitness watches and not the pilots and sailors whose lives depend on reliable radar and navigation. It was impossible to find out what navigation systems were affected, but the aviation community was quick to spread the word to double and triple check your systems before flying to make sure the information they had was up to date and even to avoid unnecessary GA flights until we knew which, if any, systems were affected. Unfortunately, it's much harder to get that information out to sailors, especially when the media won't play ball. I'm just grateful that there weren't any accidents related to it (that I heard of) and glad to see Garmin back at it taking care of the customers who depend on them the most.

@@barbaraknapp6970 these kinda of bats are known to get nasty concussions. And get dehydrated. I was glad they were able to help. I hope they get a bat care box ready so when it happens again. Glucose gel in a tube and fruit juice in a syringe it really critical in the first moments. But she did well. Phew!!

😁 There should be more memes based on Jason's pearls of wisdom. Like when faced with tricky tasks, ask: "Is this going to break my banana hammock?" 😂. Or, why one should do something because it's "Good for the bat, good for the boat!" 🦇

You all are awesome, including Ceril. Batty McVane, how clever and cute her name, she will be forever grateful for your kindness. I've always liked most bats, but fruit bats are by far my favorite of the species. This was such an awesome and intensly emotional episode. The new Garmin radar install using the fruit net kept me on pins and needles, then the fruit bat drama. When she fell off the bucket, my heart just sank. Geez I even shed a little tear at the end when you set her free. You all deserve brownies, beer and huge brownie points! You guys have such good hearts and determination too. Loved this episode ❤ 😍.

    That was heartwarming stuff.
When I was a kid in Australia my family helped raise chicks that had fallen from their nests, raise them until they are big and strong, then set them free to go and be a real bird again.
One of my fondest was a Magpie we called "Lucky", she was barely a bird when we found her, no feathers, eyes still closed, we had to feed her mince with chopsticks mimicking how a mother bird force feeds it's chicks for a while, and she stayed with us for quite a while, was really a part of our family.
She used to even ride our old big boxer dog like it was a magpie cavalry :) and mess with it when he tried to sleep and get a moment of rest from the tiny young chick.
Even then, letting her out to go be a bird again after only a few short months was a great day, she flew up to the other magpies and started learning how to be like them.
At first she would come back to us, when we called, or at night, but over a few weeks she would stay out longer and longer, but even 6 months later she would sometimes stop by for a visit.
Watching Batty fly was great, watching her fly away is the best.
    Thanks for saving her.

I've been following your journey since you were still in the RV. As a veteran sailor I was a little skeptical of your skills - and the wisdom - of embarking on your seagoing odyssey. Im pleased to say that I've watched your skills and competence and confidence grow. You are a remarkable couple. Kudos.

I always had people wear helmets under me. I had them with me and got them to wear them, as even a nut or bolt would really hurt if dropped. Sweet Batty was amazing. I've worked rescue disasters before, and it's always very emotional to let the birds go. A sweet animal like that would be easy to get attached to.
