RELATED INFORMATION AND LINKS In 1991, the 200th anniversary of Mozart's death, opera houses performed many of the composer's works. Director Myriam Tanant, in cooperation with conductor Claire Gibault, chose Mozart's singspiel "Der Schauspieldirektor" (The Impresario). In April and May 1991, four performances took place at the Amphithéâtre Opéra Bastille, in which young singers performed. For the needs of the production, "Der Schauspieldirektor" was supplemented with several arias and a duet from another Mozart singspiel "Zaide". Natalie Dessay sang Madame Herz, who is competing for the main role with another singer, Mademoiselle Silberklang. The rivalry between Madame Herz and Mademoiselle Silberklang is best captured in the tercet "Ich bin die erste Sängerin," in which they demonstrate their art (with the participation of a tenor).
