  • My hands are not so good anymore, and especially for tying small fish hooks and fishing line together, so I decided to try out this handy hook tier gadget.
    🛒 Available from Amazon (I earn a small commission if you purchase using the link below)
    📌 AU: linktw.in/jfeMwW
    📌 US: linktw.in/ePVsAS
    This simple machine tor tying a Hook onto fishing line, works quite well, however, it does take a few attempts, to get it working just right.
    BUT it does work, and I can once again tie fishing hooks to a line once again.
    P.S. It really is easy after you use this gadget a few times, and it costs under $3.00au delivered to your door.
    Now if only I can get the other half to bait her hook, I'd be in heaven haha😀

    Well you made me understand this particular knot tyer tool. I've looked at it and thought it was just a complicated looking tool. Nah, the nail knot tool is easier. But I can now see how it's done. Catfishing with that tied on hook would never get off unless the line broke! Thanks from these old arthritic hands. Btw, Snelled hooks go back as far as I can remember when I was a boy in the 1950's... the knot is only as weak as the line strength. The knot will not slip! And now there is a tool to help tie it.

    I believe you should pass the wire through the hook's eye opening first, from the back to the front (side where the hook's point is curved at), then you would start to enroll the wire etc , like you did... That will make your tie and the entire assembly much stronger and reliable when you set the hook on a fish IMO!

    • @GarryPurcell
      @GarryPurcell  ปีที่แล้ว

      The knot I tied is to demonstrate that you can use a spade hook, with this device.

    Don’t worry about those little mistakes I make them too . I hate it when I struggle to tie a hook . Because I have arthritis in my hands and some of the new clear monofilament line is hard to see in poor light and I get all done tying a spade hook and then I cut the wrong end . I cut the leader instead of the tag end

    I believe that the reason the line moved up and down the hook was because you double wound over the line on the hook and therefore couldn't tighten enough. The big question for me is with a spade end hook, would the line run in front or behind the spade end. I lost 8 hooks a couple of weeks back and I believe it was because the line ran in front of the spade end. When you pull the hook, it tends to pivot forward at the spade end and this can cut through the line. Always have the line running down the back of the hook!

    • @GarryPurcell
      @GarryPurcell  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting question regarding the position of the line to the spade. I really haven't noticed a problem myself. Maybe check the spade itself, and see if it has excessively sharp edges.

      @@GarryPurcell sadly people liked to build villages and city close to water. i say almost all the citys and villages are dumping the used sewage water into the lakes after only a bit of filtration to remove the big stuff. it cause the lakes to be full of "fertilizer" and grow algae that sucks the oxygen and block the sunlight. not even talking about the farmers that spread manure on field that eventually end up in the lakes also. where i live they closed the brand-new beach they built because the federal found out the coliform content of the lake was so high it was way higher than the maximum allowed for *skin contact* . we have also algae epidemic each year so bad the whole lake is off limit.
      i am talking about "Lac Aylmer" a 1-2km wide by 15km lake in Quebec. www.google.com/maps/place/45°48'16.3"N+71°20'53.7"W/ its not even the worst around because other local lake that are smaller have it way worst.
      of course other waterways in the great north and wild territories are pristine and untouched, but they are very far away and only accessible to boat plane.
      i dont want to tell anymore negative, but it is only the truth. when i tell my Japanese friend they dont believe and think of Canada as the monster trout land with beautiful rivers and lakes. as a French Canadian myself with lots of spare time i have trouble putting fish on my table. as the saying says, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

      @@Francois_Dupont Hopefully the local government will do something about it.
      Here in Victoria, Australia, there are lots of things happening to clear our waterways, and the fishing grounds are continually being improved.
      Natural snags, and rock formations are being added to the waterways, and fingerlings of various species being released, there is even a $10,000AU tagged fish released campaign currently active as well. (Catch it, grab the Tag and you get a $10,000AU reward from our government)
      Commercial fishing is now prohibited in our Gippsland Lakes region, and scallop dredging banned in our Port Phillip Bay region.
      Fish are now being caught in the mouth of the Yarra River, Melbourne. (Its taken many years for the fish to return to the cleaner water.)

      The needle is also used for creating loop knots so you can have a consistent size.
