She did not overpower them honestly. There were many parts that her voice was barely even audible. The Boys II Men were more consistent here. You can hear there voice all through out the performance.

Mariah Carey can still sing very well with rested, however she had the best instrument in the history of music, there is no voice that can match all the characteristics of her voice, range , agility, constant ringing quality, pleasant tonal quality in every register, mastery of whistle register, low notes and so on, plus she also mastered every technique, she can perform any technique in any registers. And her voice was so unique, so light but at the same time so powerful and resonant especially in upperbelts, strong but at the same time fluid and elastic. At her best she is just unbeatable.

Whitney has always had that church sound that is boring and repetitive. The best voice doesn't exist when it is based on something as subjective as tone. 98-99 It was Mariah's vocal decline but her only problem are the nodules that limit the consistency of her voice, it has happened that Mariah has equaled or surpassed her performance in her prime sometimes even in the last few years like for Joy to the world at Beacon theater for example. I said the best instrument and Mariah has the best instrument.

Two different worlds, not comparable because they have not had the same training. But in my opinion you can't have the best instrument if you don't have versatility and don't use every vocal register. I just listened to the unedited and edited verisons of this performance back to back, they all much up just about besides the poor audio thats all. Maybe a few changed notes but thats it.
