- Officer Tom Lazure from West Hartford, CT brought his K-9 partner Jett to Pickler & Ben to talk about all of Jett's amazing accomplishments for the course of his career. Jett is now retired from the force, but he still is ready to follow his partner's commands at any moment!

I love how the handler keeps petting him and showing him love like that🤗
That kind of dog is very hyperactive and they need the attention or they will start kind of freaking out. He’s definitely helping the dog to stay calm. They are incredibly friendly to their handler and people they trust, but they will aggress instantly toward whoever they are told to attack.

@@atlkidz1 Yes. Unfortunately Jett was put to sleep due to deteriorating health. It was an incredibly painful decision for his family to make but ultimately it was a quality versus quantity of life situation. Sgt. Lazure and his family did not want Jett to suffer any longer.

There’s no doubt Jett is in heaven. God had called for him when he passed. Jett’s services may not be needed here on earth anymore but I’m sure Heaven has quite a few more good deeds for him.

"K-9 Jett initially retired from the West Hartford Police Department on Jan. 1, 2018, just after Lazure was promoted from officer to sergeant, but the dog was briefly brought back into service earlier in 2019, with Lazure handling him. Jett, however, was forced back into retirement in May when he was diagnosed with lymphoma. Jett initially responded well to treatment, but on Aug. 11 the Lazure family made the difficult and painful decision to put the 9-year-old jet-black German Shepherd to sleep."❤

Thank you so very much for your brave, fearless service for the greater good for our society, Jett. As a dedicated Christian, I've always hoped that there will be animals in heaven ever since I had to put my sweet, beloved cat, 'Cuddles' down due to feline leukemia. I know for sure, that if she's there, Jett, and all of his protoge's are there as well.
Very sad. All due to crappy commercial diet and100% preventable. 9 yrs is way too young. Feed fresh real food meat eggs fish veggies berries yoghurt raw bones fish oil vitamins fresh greens. You will seldom see the vet, teeth don't get decay, bones are strong, no allergies or lumps, and high energy. We continue to feed rubbish to our pets. This dog deserved better but his human fed him junk food. ALL commercial food is junk. Feed Fresh food or don't get a dog!
@@mjremy2605 I believe just like people some live longer than others. I've small dogs die young, big dogs last to 17 years old. I use the same food & treats on all my dogs.

I know for a fact that fresh food will restore health to broken dogs and bad food will destroy the health of healthy dogs. All dogs live long lives if fed FRESH FOOD NOT CRAPPY COMMERCIAL DIETS. EVERY COMMERCIAL DIET IS CRAP. EVERY SINGLE ONE. If you buy into the baloney about dog food being good for dogs, I'll tell you know, its the profit margin they care about not nutrition. Ditto for people. Eat right, no issues. Eat wrong, nothing but issues.

Delightful story! What a wonderful team the two of you make. Years ago, I worked in a courthouse and I would watch our sheriff's department with their dogs patrolling the corridors, alert for whatever may occur. We were all taught how to "run, fight, hide" in case of an active shooter. I never forgot that. One time, the courthouse was shut down because of a credible threat. We were messaged to not return to our workplace. These superb teams save lives every single day.

As a German it's pretty interesting for me to watch this. Never knew the commands were in German. And for the ones of you who want to know what the command for attacking or chasing someone is (that's what we say to our dogs here): "Fass!", which means "catch!"

@@tigertalks1567 police dogs are considered by law police officers (so if you kill them, you're charged as if you've killed a human officer). Plus they're trained to go for the arm holding the assumed weapon to subdue you.
@@tape2518 go take a look at k9 ozzie long beach as well as the k9 in mussippi, both locked in hot cars to boul to death. The dirty secret is these canines are mistreated. I know very well how these animals ate trained. I have trained a GSD to a Schutzund title.

What a beautiful dog and you can see the bond and love between Jet and Tom, I noticed Tom kept petting Jet when he was wanting too go!! I liked the way the audience laughed when Tom said Jet was looking for narcotics or bad guys!! And when he said not too use the word attack That Jett would be looking for the fastest one moving that would be me
I ❤️ most relationships between dog/ handler. Prayers if dog retired family cared for him. Believe it or not ....it often doesn't happen

I can’t imagine being disrespectful to any police officer! Honesty and yes Sir and no Sir with politeness go along way and these police deserve that!! Theirs good and bad in everything so don’t judge them for 1 bad cops behavior.. When I was growing up in the 60’s & 70’s I was rebellious and it cost me a lot of money 💰 for a bad attitude! Now those policemen are retired and were very good friends today!! They never beat me in a foot race, however you can’t out run that radio lolz! We washed and detailed many police cars!!! Once I trained my first working dog, I never had to train another, much anyway. The new puppies just did as the others would. You just need to be leader of the pack! Love dogs, and this ones a beauty. He certainly loves to be obedient. One very well trained dog.

My wife and I trained our wolf mix dog with German commands. She is one of the smartest dogs I have ever seen. She Learns very quickly. She a member of our family and is so kind and playful with our grand kids. I and going to be missing her so much the day she passes away. We will be losing a member of the family that day.

No you don't. Police dogs get Schutzhund training and its a huge liability in urban areas. GSDs are naturally protective. I never had to train mine but they were immensely protective and proactive about it. If you want good looks and shiny fur, feed real food not cans or pellets. Fish oil too.
