Petty was dominating this race, but lost because of a failed distributor cap. I love the fact that even 12 laps down they fix the car and then he gets back out there. These guys were just built differently back then. Love these classic races!

Racing was better, folks were hard working men with personalities and not spoon fed brats. Cars were more factory production and not canned machines. Stands were packed.
There were no big screens, no "amenities". Just good, real racing in it's heartland.
What did NASCAR do? Sold out..

    Petty's #42 was actually a 1964 Plymouth "updated" with a 1965 front end (hood,fenders,grill etc.)

Back when an automobile was a real car and the sheet metal was 3 times thicker than cars today.

Its a longshot but I have to ask…..do you posess any “Car and Track” videos from 69’ that dedicate 15 minutes to a USAC stock car race in Northern Wisconsin? In car cam included in video, my holy grail that I lost 15 years ago on vhs taped from speed channel.

I've watched other videos like this and enjoy them a lot. Racing was better back then but I chuckle when others would criticize a race like saying a 11 second margin of victory is boring. I respond to that by saying look at the capacity filled seats, look at the level of enthusiasm. Yes the race wasn't close at the end but it was interesting most of the way. It's interesting to see truly different vehicle models with different drivetrain and suspensions instead we have cookie cutter vehicles that stay grouped together for 2 hours plus and wreak several times at the end trying to pass making a 500 mile race 510+ mile race completing screwing the leaders from a victory. Additionally if racing is so great why is NASCAR racing in Mexico??? They desperately need viewership yet screwing U.S. tracks and citizens.

LOL. If you were a "Ford guy" then you would know that Ford was the first to make a Hemi V8 engine in America. Where do you think chrysler got the idea from? lol. If you were a "Ford guy", then you would know about the Ford 427 SOHC Hemi that Ford specifically built for NASCAR, only to have it banned by Bill France due to the little girls at chrysler crying about the engine. The little girls at chrysler knew that their 426 was no match for the Ford 427 SOHC Hemi. Sad we never got to see it run on the oval. So much for innovation and freedom.

I mean when you're told to go easy from the pits and the guys in the mopars are told to go all out which car do you think is gonna catching who? Did you watch the video in silence?
