As for the bun you liked, that is common to several Asian cultures. In China, that would be a BBQ pork bao. In Hawaiian food, it would be mauna pua. They are very easy to find and most of them taste somewhat similar (slight differences between types.) You can even find them in Safeway or Winco in the deli some places.
Is it really your first time trying this? You did it like a pro, man. You did it like a true Filipino (without anyone telling you) using the sauce and broth with everything and would take pancit, rice and the meat in one bite. The beans in halo halo is cooked in caramel (sugar) and the "gummy bear" is Nata de coco and Kaong which is made from palm / coconut.

Buchi is like mochi. That's the simple explanation for buchi as both utilize rice flour in its prep work hence its texture. Also, with the American menu vs. the Filipino menu, we don't have the bbq pork on our side and with our lauriat menus, it's served with egg fried rice instead of just plain rice. Ohhh and the only thing missing from your lauriat order would be the crackers on the side but your American menu portions vs. ours is on a whole different scale. By the way as always love the content, I believe Filipino cuisine is slept on alot especially for people who have never had it but with your content it helps bring people to try out for cuisine and after watching all your videos, you sir are definitely invited to a Filipino cookout
Siopao is really from chinese sio (hot) pao (bun). Chinese influence in many aspects of Filipino culture is significant as we have been trading partners since pre-colonial times. The oldest China town outside of China is in Binondo, Phils. Group of companies: Jollibee, Chowking, Red Ribbon, Mang Inasal and Greenwich Pizza.

Halo-Halo in English literally means Mix-Mix. It's a good name for it since it's a mix of eveything and also because we mix that thing for like 2-5 mins or until the ice just becomes tiny pieces. Also, The jello thing you ate is called Nata de Coco Edit: It's generally good for summer because it's refreshing with the ice. Definitely would recommend trying for the people who hasn't tasted it.

@kingschratz I tried this today at the Carson California location. I ordered the Orange Chicken Entree. I also ordered the steamed bun and Lumpia Shanghai. The bun and Lumpia was great. The noodles had a lot of flavor. The sweet and sour was just okay. I would recommend it for anyone who wants something different. The Fried Chicken was on point. I was happy with my visit.

Definitely whenever you go to the east/west coasts go find yourself a Jollibee/Chow-King! If you end up finding a mom-pop spot, definitely try their lumpia, palabok, beef caldereta, and their bbq sticks! There’s so many different dishes it’s crazy
Your vids are always so entertaining. That’s it. You’re an honorary Filipino now. You def eat as passionately as a native Filipino and pairing all the right items together. Siopao is def paired with the soup. Love how intuitively you eat. Next time you have lumpia, try dipping it in vinegar mixed with cut up fresh garlic, little chili peppers and a little bit of salt. It will change your life!!! It’s kind of a go-to dipping sauce for practically every Filipino dish. Especially things that are fried or roasted like lechon (roast pork) or crispy pata. 🤤

Butchi is the chinese version of the japanese mochi dessert that's also made with glutinous rice. The filling is traditionally made with a sweet lotus root paste in chinese restos but the red bean paste is a good alternative. And broth in the noodles is always made fresh daily, i knew someone before who's a mngr in chowking.
Originally, here in PH the brown thing in the middle of the buchi is made out of mung beans. Other variations have been made too, like ube for one. Try the chao fan next time if they serve it there :) You did the right thing of mixing the halo-halo because that’s how it should be done before eating it haha 👍

Hi KingSchratz. I hope you're doing okay. Chowking is one of my favorite Filipino fastfood chains apart from Jollibee and Mang Inasal and even Greenwich (pizza chain). In terms of my favorite menu items, it has to be the fried rice, buchi (the round thing), the crispy things that go with every meal (can't remember what it's called), the meaty asado siopao, and even their wonton soup tastes real good. I feel like Mang Inasal is definitely a must try for you, if ever you want to visit the Philippines. I'm honestly quite a big fan of your food reviews. You're very honest and transparent, which I find rare. Anyway, I'm wishing you all the best in life.
you definitely gotta Try Maxs. its a Filipino restaurant known for their fried chicken. also their pork adobo is good, I love their tapsilog (beef garlic rice and egg). also their caramel bars look to be a signature dessert

The little "wow" with the sweet and sour pork got me. Hahahaha. I watched your Jollibee videos. I'm so glad you tried Chowking too. 🇵🇭 Not a fan of the lumpias of both Jollibee and Chowking. They have that mystery meat taste. However, the real homemade Filipino lumpia is fire with either sweet and sour sauce or vinegar with lots of mashed chillies, onions, and garlic.
For more of a introduction in to Filipino food id suggest food like Bicol express (pork stewed in coconut milk, chilies, and shrimp paste), Kaldereta (beef stewed in tomato sauce with liver spread), and Sinigang(pork soup stewed with tamarind base and vegetables).
This morning I saw your video. After searching online I discovered that there’s one location near my house (less than a mile away). I tried the Beef Wonton Noodle soup and man that was delicious. The only complain is that for $8 I was a expecting a little more noodles. The Halo Halo was mind blowing, super delicious shaved ice.

@kingschratz I tried this today at the Carson California location. I ordered the Orange Chicken Entree. I also ordered the steamed bun and Lumpia Shanghai. The bun and Lumpia was great. The noodles had a lot of flavor. The sweet and sour was just okay. I would recommend it for anyone who wants something different. The Fried Chicken was on point. I was happy with my visit.

Definitely whenever you go to the east/west coasts go find yourself a Jollibee/Chow-King! If you end up finding a mom-pop spot, definitely try their lumpia, palabok, beef caldereta, and their bbq sticks! There’s so many different dishes it’s crazy
Your vids are always so entertaining. That’s it. You’re an honorary Filipino now. You def eat as passionately as a native Filipino and pairing all the right items together. Siopao is def paired with the soup. Love how intuitively you eat. Next time you have lumpia, try dipping it in vinegar mixed with cut up fresh garlic, little chili peppers and a little bit of salt. It will change your life!!! It’s kind of a go-to dipping sauce for practically every Filipino dish. Especially things that are fried or roasted like lechon (roast pork) or crispy pata. 🤤

Butchi is the chinese version of the japanese mochi dessert that's also made with glutinous rice. The filling is traditionally made with a sweet lotus root paste in chinese restos but the red bean paste is a good alternative. And broth in the noodles is always made fresh daily, i knew someone before who's a mngr in chowking.

Originally, here in PH the brown thing in the middle of the buchi is made out of mung beans. Other variations have been made too, like ube for one. Try the chao fan next time if they serve it there :) You did the right thing of mixing the halo-halo because that’s how it should be done before eating it haha 👍

Hi KingSchratz. I hope you're doing okay. Chowking is one of my favorite Filipino fastfood chains apart from Jollibee and Mang Inasal and even Greenwich (pizza chain). In terms of my favorite menu items, it has to be the fried rice, buchi (the round thing), the crispy things that go with every meal (can't remember what it's called), the meaty asado siopao, and even their wonton soup tastes real good. I feel like Mang Inasal is definitely a must try for you, if ever you want to visit the Philippines. I'm honestly quite a big fan of your food reviews. You're very honest and transparent, which I find rare. Anyway, I'm wishing you all the best in life.
The crispy things are called kropek. Chowking uses the shrimp flavored ones
you definitely gotta Try Maxs. its a Filipino restaurant known for their fried chicken. also their pork adobo is good, I love their tapsilog (beef garlic rice and egg). also their caramel bars look to be a signature dessert
there's a Maxs in Jersey City. near the Red Ribbon (also another spot you gotta try)

I'm happy that you decided to mix the halo-halo. I've seen some reactors not mixing the halo-halo and they're not getting the full experience of it. Halo-halo literally translates to "mix-mix". It's called like that because it is a mixture of different ingredients and you're supposed to mix it all together before eating. But personally i like eating the flan and ube first then mix it after HAHAHA
It doesn't translate to mix mix! In the Filipino language repeated words changes meaning. 2nd the original spelling is with a "U"
For example Salo is Catch but Salu-salo does not mean Catch-catch, it is Gathering.
Halo is mix but Halu-halo is NOT MIX-MIX, Halu-halo means Assorted, referring to the ingredients

Not a fan of the lumpias of both Jollibee and Chowking. They have that mystery meat taste. However, the real homemade Filipino lumpia is fire with either sweet and sour sauce or vinegar with lots of mashed chillies, onions, and garlic.
For more of a introduction in to Filipino food id suggest food like Bicol express (pork stewed in coconut milk, chilies, and shrimp paste), Kaldereta (beef stewed in tomato sauce with liver spread), and Sinigang(pork soup stewed with tamarind base and vegetables).

This morning I saw your video. After searching online I discovered that there’s one location near my house (less than a mile away). I tried the Beef Wonton Noodle soup and man that was delicious. The only complain is that for $8 I was a expecting a little more noodles. The Halo Halo was mind blowing, super delicious shaved ice.
