He's still your baby but you must all be so so proud of him and that's a major credit to you and dad for bringing him up .

You son is in the most important part of his life. University is a time of great change and turning into an independent man of means. The hardest part of being a mom is the tug on the heart when they leave home. I took me a couple years to move past the emotions. As I only had one child a son. He traveled the world for over 25 years until pandemic. Now he is 45. Your son is full of fun and confidence. I would eat that salad and pasta any day. Tell him I wish him success in this University adventure. He will be able to cope and fend well for himself. Love requires faith in what have instilled in your child. You will miss him. So will his brothers and sisters. Tell him you love him and that you believe he will do well. Beautiful kitchen and refrigerator. Great opportunity to make lifelong friends you meet at University. You are creating a bigger circle of protection and support for him. Good parenting.

Oh my gosh this video made me cry, I completely understand how you feel. I remember when my son went to uni last yr, his dad and I cried so much. It definitely feels like a grieving process but honestly give it a month or so and you will be ok. Make sure he rings you every week with progress reports on his course and life. Sending you a huge massive warm wrap around hug xxx❤️

🥺🥺 I had my daughter when I was 18, she went to uni 4 years ago, she moved 5 times in those 4 years, I helped her every single time! 🙄😂 I felt like my heart had been ripped out, I was so upset. She's just returned home and is taking a year out before doing her teaching, we're back to cups in her room, clothes all over and towels stained with hair dye!! I wouldn't have it any other way. You've done an amazing job Rhi, he's so lovely! Big hug to you xx

I was so happy that when people asked if I'd have anymore I said yes she's that good I'd have 6 more like her 😊 I did have 6 more and not one of them were like her 🤪 because they all had different personalities 😊

Been through it twice with my sons so totally relate. My first went to uni 200 miles from home which was hard, 2nd was 50 miles which was easier to visit. It’s hard to let go but Dylan seems like my son telling you to chill etc. it’s a growing experience. Dylan’s uni room especially the kitchen looked very modern compared to what mine had and a decent en-suite which is great. Hugs to you. Xx

Dylan may have been messing about with the pasta, but he seems a LOT more mature than most of the 18yr olds I went to school with if the state of our common room was anything to go by; you needed a hazmat suit to go in there! My mum is a community careworker and she's found that many of her 18yr old colleagues tend to leave client's kitchens a mess, not do dishes, make beds etc so the fact that he's doing those things without being nagged is better than many others his age. Whatever skills he's picked up from his old job and from you will serve him well.

Haha I would have wanted to wash all the bedding and towels too! How far away is the university from your house? How many roommates does he have? Looks like a very nice place! Dillon looks just like you, Rhi. I wish that electric kettles were more of a thing in the US, but not a huge percentage of American households have them. The fact that it's a lot warmer most of the year in the US and that the electricity is such that electric kettles aren't really fast at boiling water compared to the microwave, for small amounts, or the stove top, for larger amounts, makes them kind of a counter space hog more than a convenience. If Dillon reads this, the reason you don't boil the pasta for 12 minutes at a "rolling" boil where the water looks partially white is that the pasta will turn into mush. Now that I have heard more of Dillon's voice, he reminds me of someone, but I can't think of the name. Think about it this way, Rhi. Dillon is not all that far away at his university. He's not hundreds, or over a thousand, of miles away like a lot of American university students are from their parents and you've raised a good young man. He isn't recklessly irresponsible. I expected the room to be larger that Dillon will be staying in there. It's going to be a pain to have to move the mattress every time he wants to get something out of the storage. He will be ok. Once he has graduated from his university, you'll likely see him every week at least, as well. :)

FaceTimed once a week and I checked in everyday via text. It’s the best thing he’s done and he learnt so much about life and taking care of himself.
