I wish you had gone a bit deeper with Only Lovers Left Alive. Magical, stylish, unique, strangely humorous -- my first and still favorite Jarmusch. Absolutely nothing else like it.
Found your channel about a month ago. So glad you did a video about Jarmusch. One of my favorites, and Dead Man is his best in my opinion. Got any tobacco?
'Down by law' seems like something I would like, but I have to say is so hard for me to go and watch anything from Jarmusch after watching 'Paterson'. I can't help myself but that movie was literally everything I don't want to see while watching films. I am actually amazed by people who find it any good - which is majority of viewers it seems, based on ratings.
Jarmusch made so many great films, but Permanent Vacation really struck a chord with me somehow, just very lyrical thought provoking, poetic, with an interesting, enigmatic character.. an underrated film
The Dead Don't Die cracks me up. Why it gets shit on is a mystery to me. People seem to not dig the fact that it's self aware. Didn't hear any whining about that when Monty Python indulged in it. There are a couple I can't get into., but Dead Don't Die ain't one of em. It's infinitely more entertaining than WWZ.
Night On Earth is probably my favorite Jarmusch movie. It was my first exposure to Roberto Bollini. I would be interested in your opinions of John Sayles.
12:25 Wasn't the two espressos a signal for his contacts to identify him? Sort of left unmentioned, but it's the interpretation that suggests itself to me, at least...
great job - idk a lot about jarmusch, but this was a good overview ... i watched a bit of C&C one time and didn't quite get into it. i like paterson as well & driver was pretty solid in that role. i also felt like u re: broken flowers - just a bit too one note/meh from murray.
Awsome! Should we mention Aki Kaurismäki's movies here? We could, influence is obvious and the esthetics are similarly beautiful (Ariel (1988), The Match Factory Girl (1990), The Man Without a Past (2002)...) I recommend this movies highly ;)
I saw Dead Man before I knew who Jim Jarmusch was. Great soundtrack by Neil Young too. That inspired me to see his other movies. It was downhill from there because I think that's his best film. But I also really liked Only Lovers Left alive Broken flowers Patterson Ghost dog was ok. Similar thoughts to below. Limits of control was ok. The cinematography and performances were good. Knowing it was kind of a middle finger to the action movie genre., I take it as a parody mostly. The final scene with Bill Murray was good, but you can watch it on fast forward. I was disappointed in the early movies. Maybe they were over-hyped, but unmemorable for me. Didn't like John Laurie or Bertolini and maybe that was part of it. I didn't see the last one, because it got awful reviews, but maybe I should.
this is great. Jarmusch's filmography offers different flavors to different people. As one commenter said, he doesn't have one "must-see" movie. You have to try about five at least, and in the end you'll find the 3-4 that you love.
I don't remember if I did a rundown of all of Jarmusch's films, or just what I think his best are. In the latter case, I would not have mentioned "Permanent Vacation," an acquired taste for most I think.
To get into Jarmusch I tried to watch Dead man because 1.I’m a Johnny Depp fan and 2. I like westerns Well, unfortunately something caused me to become derailed and I lost interest in the movie after that I never once tried watching it all the way I did watch Ghost dog:way of the samurai though and now I own it on criterion
I feel that Jarmusch is like Godard in a sense that there is no definite best movie by him. Everyone has their opinion wheter certain movie is good or not.

He's one of my favourite filmmakers ever. My life would be poorer without his movies. Can't believe he's 70.
I feel like Jarmusch has to be a huge Melville fan. Limits of Control and Ghost Dog have so many shots that are extremely reminiscent of Le Samouraï.
I liked his cameo in Sling Blade, too.
Jim Jarmush's appearance in Blue in the Face was great.
Awesome overview! Jarmusch films have endless watchability and such unique style. He is one of the greats!
I love Jim Jarmusch's movies 🥺
I have been waiting for this. One of my fav directors!
great vid, love your channel, very well spoken. I wish more were interested in these older directors and their films.
Fantastic piece - thanks for doing this. I’m a huge fan of Dead Man and Patterson, so much more to catch up with!
My faves are Paterson, Only Lovers Left Alive, and Dead Man ... but I'll check out your recommendations!
Fan of all his work but my top five are
1. Stranger than paradise
2. Dead Man
3. Night on Earth
4. Ghost Dog
5. Broken Flowers
adore Jarmusch so much, great video!

Got any tobacco?
I don’t smoke 😊
I love Jim Jarmusch and have loads of his movies. I just added two more to my list: Paterson and The Limits of Control.

I loved ghost dog. Also, mystery train and dead man.
hi sir. can you review Woman in the Dunes (1964)
it's on the list, though not near the top of it. Stick with the channel and we'll get there!
Just watched down by law for the first time two days ago.
One of my favourite directors, if not my favourite

That's Dash X from Eerie, Indiana!
i loved only lovers left alive
I think a lot of people will for sure.
Me too. Mesmerizing characters and mood. Watched a few times
I saw Dead Man before I knew who Jim Jarmusch was. Great soundtrack by Neil Young too.
That inspired me to see his other movies. It was downhill from there because I think that's his best film.
But I also really liked
Only Lovers Left alive
Broken flowers
Patterson
Ghost dog was ok. Similar thoughts to below.

@@LearningaboutMovies Very true. Even his "best" movies are not for everyone, which I completely understand. Same for Kubrick.
Josh i have a film i want to recommend it for you it’s Cure by Kiyoshi Kurosawa would love to hear your opinion on it and if possible a full study
Just watched this last weekend and it’s easily the best non American horror film I’ve ever seen
I'm a fan. I also get the comparison to the Coens. I really like his style. But, for whatever reason, I thought Jarmusch was Canadian? lol
Gary Farmer and Neil young from Dead Man are Canadian.
yeah, the coen comparison made sense, framed the discussion well
Ghost Dog rules....
mate you forget pemanent vacation. worth mentioning as its among its best film
I don't remember if I did a rundown of all of Jarmusch's films, or just what I think his best are. In the latter case, I would not have mentioned "Permanent Vacation," an acquired taste for most I think.
My Top 5:
Dead Man
Paterson
Only Lovers Left Alive
Mystery Train
Ghost Dog
is the discord server still up?
yep, still there.

Yeah, The Dead Don't Die was a real masterpiece..
Paterson is one of his best.
❤❤❤❤❤
Coffee and Cigarettes, anyone?
just cafe por favor
I was really inspired by his films, tho I thought coffee&cigarettes was a major disappointment. Skip that one!
i watched some of it and didn't quite get into it either
I feel that Jarmusch is like Godard in a sense that there is no definite best movie by him. Everyone has their opinion wheter certain movie is good or not.
i kinda felt a bit of that vibe watching this summary as well
