    Great cod fishing. Interesting to observe the jigging machines you are using. They are very different from the ones we use in Northern Norway. Our cod fishing season is now on decline. The total catch of North East Atlantic Cod so far this year is 123.690 metric tons, which is approximately 272 491 356 pounds round weight.

    What's the difference in the depth and bottom structure when fishing for cod or rock cod? Enjoyed the video.

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So rockcod (lingcod?) hang out on the rocky structures, reefs, hard bottom etc. and along edges, similar to rockfish. Pacific cod like sandy shells and gravel, or muddy bottom. P. cod come up from around 40 fathom range during the winter to 20-30 fathoms in the spring to spawn out.

    Hi from the UK. Really enjoy your channel. Would you able to put up a diagram on how your rig lies across the sea bed when halibut fishing?

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Derek. Lets see if I can explain it.
      Imagine a helium filled balloon, this is the buoy on one end. The string has a weight attached to the end (an anchor) that holds it to the seabed. Then the line with baited hooks is payed out.
      Sometimes we follow depth contours, other times we may set it from shallow to deep (or vice versa) when looking for fish. It crosses hills and gullies, and we snap on weights to help it stay tight to the bottom.
      The other end is the same as first. An anchor to hold it to bottom, sufficient buoyline to get to the surface and a buoy to make the end.
      We use a buoy on both ends in case we get hung-up and break off. Then we can go to the other end and pull the remainder of the set.
      Hope this explains it well. Thanks for watching and take care.

    • @derekfawell2853
      @derekfawell2853 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another learning question please. Why don't you dispatch the fish and then drop them straight into the ice locker?

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We like to give them a good rinse before the hold. It keeps the gurry down and makes cleanup easy. We need to get a dumper hopper built though, as we are handling the fish twice.

    • @EISAlaska
