I live here/there... in Portland. I have seen, no exaggeration, thousands of hours of the Columbia River from Astoria up to eastern Washington, but not from your perspective. Thank you.
Hey Chief!!!??? This is a different boat in this video then the boat I've seen you working on before right!??? The white pillers top deck are something I don't remember on the boat you usually work on....??l Not sure what the white pillers are for or do!?? I enjoy watching I learn things here and there it's all very interesting!!!! Thanks again for your time!!!
I visited this area of the U.S. and actually stayed in Astoria, Oregon for a few days. I believe your visit and mine were at the same time. I will be checking pics ( I have many) to see whether I have any of your vessel. Great video and thanks for sharing it.
Hey Chief , loved the video I wish I could of seen you cross the Columbia river bar and have you actually ever been all the way to Portland Oregon , On the Willamette river
That's location on the video was the farthest I've been in the Columbia River. I've been trying to take some footage of the bar crossing but it's always night time when we cross. We'll be back there in March. Hopefully we go in during daytime.
yahoo.. I live on the north bank of that river in vancouver Washington!!! Astoria is correct.. Was that on the other side of terminal 6? Down the Willamette river? I have not be up there yet but have gone down river from Vancouver to Astoria before.. what fun.. If I had known the real Makoi was there I would have thrown a big dinner for him..
Does your ship have bow thrusters or did you have a tugboat to help keep you pointed in the right direction or neither? At 1:18 you see another large ship with what looks like a tugboat helping on the river. Thanks.
@@ChiefMAKOi Thanks, that sounds a bit stressful for the officer in charge of the helm keeping the ship in the deeper part of the river. From the little I know changing winds can throw your ship off course and on that river it does not seem like you have much room for error? Smooth sailing to you.

I always enjoy your videos Chief.
Next time you find yourself in Astoria, do yourself a favor; visit Mo's. An incredible seafood restaurant overlooking the anchorage area.

None. We were self-propelled all throughout the transit. The tugs only assist during berthing and unberthing.

What was the cargo? :-)
These videos make me miss not working ships ☹
I thought that the Columbia River pilots were flown to ships by helicopter.
What was the cargo here?
If I remember correctly, potash.
