Saw him in KC last year. He's certainly a real crowd kind of person. He'd talk to people in the crowd between songs. You can tell he loves what he does and has never let it go to his head.
He did an entire acoustic tour about 7 or 8 years ago. It was phenomenal. He also did a whole album with a different vocalist called Alien Love Child. Don't forget all of his solo albums where he actually sings.
I am convinced that the words that would accurately describe, just how good he really is, have not yet been invented! Everything about his playing is beyond...
I was grateful for this. I was so in love with you & I was in my really big kitchen preparing my many ingredients for my marinara. I was listening to your To Whom It May Concern continuously looped for hours of play when he came in stupidly telling me about your Jamaican batteries. Stupid because as batteries drain their sound changes. Makes great sense to me that it could be quite frustrating to any Master Guitarist. This from the guy that had a completely CG album created on computer. People really are crazy Dylan.
He is actually quite excellent with an acoustic guitar and plays some very nice classical and spanish style songs. He does sing too and while it is not always my cup of tea he has good range and control.
no matter what guitar Eric plays, he always sounds like himself. I hope to be like that some day... Although us mere mortals will never even get close.
Love the man. He cracks me up with the 'tilted amp' concept. You can guarantee someones trying it as we speak. My EJ strat comes with all the right notes; but I cant play them in the right order. ( Morecombe and Wise Previn sketch)
@pabdiary That particular guitar was the first prototype he got made, he had a learning curve and removed the string trees on the final production model along with changing a few other features..
@UKToneKing I'm not really convinced he was talking so much about the effect of tremolo on the actual tone so much as he was referring to how the trem itself sounds. It's easy to notice a difference between a Floyd versus a stock Strat tremolo, so I think what he was talking about it how the Super Vee sounds more like a stock Strat.
@educassiano It's all about note control, really. I've been learning to play Cliffs of Dover, and especially in some of the really wide note stretches, left-hand muting of notes is key to not making such a fuzzy sound messy, really.
Hmm... I have a black Eric Johnson Strat (my favorite guitar of all time), but his is different. I hate when guitar companies do that. The one he's playing has different fret inlays and it's relic'ed. there's no way it would have aged that fast. Also his has a string tree and the neck seems to be flamed. Anyone else notice that?
Tilted Vox DC amp with Armor All haha... that's some funny stuff:) And a dreamland of equipment for having fun with music. That barracuda flanger was originally built to replicate the sound on Heart's Barracuda...and I want one...and it's only $300...whew
Eric is right about one thing, the fuzz is picky about what you put in line with it. I also liked the flanger effect as well, I'm surprised more folks don't use it when playing lead guitar; it sounds amazingly good if blended just right.
I can relate to you thinking that people should use flange for lead as well as rhythm. I use flange for just about any thing from power chords to solos.
Mark Soderlind The true secret to fuzz is using the effect with a tube amp with some drive in the preamp. The fuzz clips the waveform straight across the top, playing that through solid state amps is too brash. The tubes will squash down and smooth out the waveform, that is why Jimi sounded so good through the Marshalls.
Emil Kabban Duh? Of course. All he has is tube amps. Plexi, twins and a Dumble. I was just saying I like fuzz, But Eric sounds better using his usual tone. When he started his solo career there was no fuzxface on his board. Didn't need it.
What is degree angle for the Vox tilt , and how much fluid in the Armour all bottle ? Thanks ! Btw....if you ever need me to show you stuff , just hmu. 🎸
@UKToneKing But, I am with you on the "tone wood" marketing crap. Brian May made his guitar out of a oak mantlepiece, but you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who who doubts he could coax great tone from it.
For the amazing tones he has, his gear is actually pretty low budget, excluding the amps of course. I have a DD-3 and to be honest I'm so surprised that he uses any pedal that doesn't have true bypass, maybe he modded it though. A bad workman blames his tools, this guy shows that brilliantly in this video, lots of his pedals aren't even boutique pedals.
@@breakingthe4thwall260 Yeah? Do me a favour then, look up how much a stock boss DD pedal is and then go look at magnetic drum delays. Tube screamer, DD and Fuzzface; you can buy all three, today, including the TS808 reissue for £400 on Andertons. If the sun were only as far away from Earth as those pedals are from budget we'd be burned to smithereens Yeah, they are specific iterations he uses and I'm sure he put in mods, but those pedals started as low-mid range at best.
@@breakingthe4thwall260 No, not 400 dollars, see the pound sign? Sorry to break this to you, but your ability to afford something does not determine where it sits relative to what is available to, bought and used by other artists of a similar calibre to E.J. Your argument is no more valid than claiming that a Ford Mondeo isn't a low budget car simply because you can't afford a Ferrari.
@@breakingthe4thwall260 I've tried being polite with you while you've been a tool since your first comment and have barely read my messages. If you had you'd know it was £400 (POUNDS) for THREE pedals; two at just over £100 ($136 DOLLARS) and the reissue at £165. In the world of pedals, £100 is still a budget pedal. That doesn't mean there aren't cheaper pedals but when other delay pedals can cost £450 each and rack effects cost thousands, Boss pedals sit at the top end of the budget tier. Some people save up for years to buy the things they would like for their passion, even if they don't make much money, that is true all over the world. You would get really upset if you saw how much a 'budget' harp or marimba costs. All of that might matter if we weren't talking about Eric Johnson's pedals relative to his budget, not yours or anyone else's. Finally, you have no idea what my experiences are, so go fuck yourself.
@UberNoobtard I believe that fuzz face was made for EJ custom by Jorge Tripps of Way Huge fame who heads up R & D for Dunlop. Also Joe Bonamassa's gold fuzz that he's been using for years was originally made for EJ but EJ didn't like so Jorge gave it to Joe. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an EJ signature fuzz face before long :-)
a person's music reflects his own personality. By this, i could tell how amazing Eric Johnson is. inside and out. all thumbs up for you man.
Saw him in KC last year. He's certainly a real crowd kind of person. He'd talk to people in the crowd between songs. You can tell he loves what he does and has never let it go to his head.
The best clean tone ever. Nobody is even close.
The Armor All tip: Eric's humor, always the best!! And he has such a beautiful smile!
eric johnson is the nicest and most awesome musician the world has ever known
It seems like there's always a ray of light shining through EJ, in both his music & his person...Wish more musicians had his attitude!
I could listen to this guy play all day and never get bored. Even his noodling is amazing.
This guy is one of the gratest of all time.
Especially love the ending. He's always got a great sense of humor about those who are looking for one "magic bullet". EJ, you inspire man :)
He did an entire acoustic tour about 7 or 8 years ago. It was phenomenal. He also did a whole album with a different vocalist called Alien Love Child. Don't forget all of his solo albums where he actually sings.
I've listened to this series at least three times, just today. Always loved his playing and what a great guy to meet.
That clean tone... I could get lost playing through that... Wow.
OMG!!! I TRIED THE ARMORALL ON MY TILTED VOX DC AND I GET THE PERFECT TONE!!!
He's not just a guitar hero, he's a music hero.
What a dream studio that is.That's what heaven would look like for me.
One of the few players who manages to toe the line between equipment nerd and flat-out virtuoso.
when you hear a few notes and know who it is.... that is a Master. Hendrix, Rhoads, Clapton, Van Halen..... and Eric Johnson... signature sound/tone.
I am convinced that the words that would accurately describe, just how good he really is,
have not yet been invented!

such a great player and writer..
"It's all about tilted vox DC amplifiers". - he has a sense of humor! Love it.
A Guitat player's Guitarist. I had a 2008 EJ strat, loved it, miss it , He is one of the BEST !!!
Like Carl Verheyen said about Albert Lee: "He's a really nice person and you can hear it in his fingers". :)
no matter what guitar Eric plays, he always sounds like himself. I hope to be like that some day... Although us mere mortals will never even get close.
Someone said somewhere that he could play a tennis racket, and make it sound like him... its all in his hands!
That's hilarious!! Lord, what a talent and treasure.
Well the vox amp and the can worked perfectly for me, tone is exactly like eric's
Eric sound, always takes me far away!!!
I love that sound!!!
I'm now a fan! Thank you so much for sharing! God bless you.

Tá louco esse timbre do Eric é muito gostoso de ouvir
@pabdiary That particular guitar was the first prototype he got made, he had a learning curve and removed the string trees on the final production model along with changing a few other features..
dude is freakin amazing
That's it baby!! Awesome!
I see he has the 2 tone knobs on the Tube Driver turned all the way down? Why is that? How does that help the tone?
sensacional mestre na arte de musica ...
Muito bom e inclusive as ferramentas de trabalho dele é tudo top!muito bom!!!!
He's an awesome acoustic guitarist! Piano, too.
The end is epic !!!
Geez, Eric please do one of those ambient solo guitar albums (like Alex De Grassi)
Master of tones
@Wiltonibanez the armor all makes his tone shine! lol (it's used to shine dashboards on vehicles)
He always plays such beautiful chords. And, where are the Dumble amps? Replaced by that little Vox? I thought so.
sorry, i know this isnt the first time i'm asking this, but what is the song hes playing at the beginning, its so soothing
god thats funny at the end. Eric, you made into my top 5 with THAT.
a yellow fuzz face? hmmm... very interesting! it's all about tilted vox dc amplifiers....and armor all. you are the greatest, EJ!

@jdumoit77 That's his first Signature Strat. The new ones don't have those...
This is the goods folks! Stratoblogster approved!!!
@educassiano It's all about note control, really. I've been learning to play Cliffs of Dover, and especially in some of the really wide note stretches, left-hand muting of notes is key to not making such a fuzzy sound messy, really.
Love your unique style...= your personality....God bless the Gentleman Guitar player who brings me to his zone way up in the sky....Eric Johnson
his skills are reasonably good
He does that freaky string hopping to the next octave a lot in his scale runs
Holy fuck I lost my shit at the last part. God I love that man.

This black EJ sig strat is the first prototype fender sent him
Where are you Johnson ? Missing you fiercely.
LOL what a cool guy. love the reference to the batteries.
@SuperOxideDimutase its between the 2 twin heads at 2:55
this is such a cool video
he pokes fun of himself!!!!!!!!! great guitarist with a sense of humor

Ahh, touche on the "to his exacting specs" bit:)
@66jtm45 it's a fuzz face made by pedal guru jeorge tripps (way huge) who works for dunlop at the moment. it's not a bog standard dunlop.
the kicker is at 6:15 if you don't have time for the whole video
man those tilted vox amps got a love em!
5:23=THE TONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Emil Kabban. Eric is amazing. But he doesn't suit a fuzz to me. Butler and plex and plexi is part of his style. Fuzz sounds too buzzy

Eric is the man, and I love the ending, LMAO!! Eric RULEZ!! :-)
Hi. Where I can purchase titted Vox amp and magic can? OK thanks!
Nano B ?!?!???
Nano B Vox amps have tits?
i want hand-aged and reliced ones
What is degree angle for the Vox tilt , and how much fluid in the Armour all bottle ?
Thanks !
Btw....if you ever need me to show you stuff , just hmu. 🎸
@ancientpalace what about the tilt?
Tilted vox DC amps..gonna have to remember that
"I use it mainly for power chords...." Hits a couple obscure suspended add 9s or whatever hahaha. Anything but power chords there EJ
have you ever heard of this website called Fender.com before? there's a chance you could find one there
Sometimes I am more amazed by his pick hand.
@UKToneKing But, I am with you on the "tone wood" marketing crap. Brian May made his guitar out of a oak mantlepiece, but you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who who doubts he could coax great tone from it.
He starts playing and you know it's EJ within three seconds!
Tilted Vox DC amplifiers FTW!!
SHOW..FRIEND SHOW..FANTASTIC....

How knows what's this kind of neck is calling? It's may be Flame maple neck, but i think it is some another.
I speak fluent Master Guitarist. Legend too.
I was surprised how well my amp performed after placing a bottle of Armour All on top of it, it did whatever i wanted it to do.
I use a 335 and an SG... *SHOWS A LES PAUL* HAHA!!! Great skills Eric Johnson! :D

does anyone know what Eric is playing at the very beginning until 1:05? Is he just jamming or is it a song?
The ending was quality
... I don't know if he's serious or not with the tilted VOX amp... o_e'' It's Eric Johnson and we can't doubt his words...
That tube driver thing is kinda like whats in name....Tommy Bolin did with his HiWATTS and distortion pedal - tone all the way down...or so I've read.
that tone
what pedal effect should i start with?
the last part's the best! lol!
@ChiroQuacker
You, sir, are HILARIOUS. And wrong! At the same time! Post a link and show us who you're talking about.
Porque as produtoras de DVD não inundam o mercado com os materiais que os feras produzem?
yea, yea.......YEA. Fuzz face & the infamous Barracuda Toad Worx Flanger.
Please tell me what midi sounds like..? :P
so the first part of the video, is it just him noodling or is it an actual song?
gotta get that tilt on my vox mini amp...
