My favourite Robert Plant solo song - hypnotic relaxing melody, more mature vocals but still unmistakably still very sublime. If I ranked it among my favorite Zeppelin songs it would come in somewhere between 10-15, possibly slightly higher
I grew up with Led Zeppelin on the radio, of course, but THIS was the song that made my eyes pop open wide when I first heard it. Dreamy, romantic, lovely in a way that now reminds me of Roxy Music. Wonderful - thanks for the reaction, Harri! I hadn't heard this song in YEARS.
Just subscribed. Few reactors check out Plants' solo work. I was too young to be familiar with Zeppelin when it disbanded(born in 1978). I was a fan of his solo work before I even realized he was Led Zeppelins' singer. A few of his fantastic songs, that are often under-looked are I Believe( a tribute to his son who passed when he was young), and a great song for listening to while driving, Tye Dye on the Highway(song about Woodstock). Now and Zen album was his biggest solo success. Tall Cool One and Ship of Fools are great songs.
I'm with Cynthia, Imadrummin, this is a great song! With the sad end of Zeppelin, I was so psyched when Robert launched his solo career with, _Pictures at Eleven,_ and then this terrific follow-up LP. Thanks for the memory lane trip.
Beautiful song from The Principle of the Moments from 1983. Robert's voice preaches of the longing for a lost love while driving, pondering resting for a while or considering carrying on to the journey's end. The guitars are so haunting and escalate the dimensions of the lyrics. Just a masterpiece by solo Robert. He produced a number of great tunes on this album to use while going on tour, as he didn't want to play all Zeppelin's songs. Glad you loved it Harri. Thanks Harri and Imadrummin. Beautiful memory. 👍 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
This song came out in 1983, I remember that clearly as it is one of the background songs to the first summer I spent with my now husband. It is so evocative, glad you love it too. 😀
"SEA OF LOVE" is something special...! (among others) Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers(Bad Company vocalist) had a band, The Firm... "SATIFACTION GAURANTEED" is something special as well..!!!
Every time I hear this song, it takes me back to a winter night at university, when I had come back to the dorm from a frat party. It was late, I'd had an ok time at the party, but no luck, and I looked out the window at the snow swirling in the streetlight while this song played on the radio. To this day, this song captures the perfect melancholy of love not realized, of somewhere down the road, and the snow swirling in a distant cone of light.
I believe Phil Collins is playing drums on this. This song has a strong memory with it for me. When I was in junior high and high school, our church youth group went to Kansas City, about four hours away, every year. Our youth leader had family there, and sometimes we would stay in the homes of their church folks. Other times we would stay in dorms at the American Baptist seminary on the Kansas side. One of those times, it was in the midst of a heat wave, and the dorms were not air conditioned, so the rooms were absolutely stifling. Opening the windows didn't really help because the air was still and the humidity was high. It took a long time before I could sleep. Early in the morning, a thunderstorm broke the heat, and it was still raining moderately when the alarm went off. In another room, somebody's radio was playing this song. Every time I hear it, I'm immediately in that room, waking up to rain and Robert Plant.
