Those which have warned of Putin even 2003 and 2005 like Otto von Habsburg were not taken serious. Then 2014 it was nearly too late, but still a lot of Western politicians felt well in believing in Putin's "fairy tales" till 2022. Then it was really too late. Chinese interest started when former Pres. G. Arroyo wayback 2005, invited China to explore its territorial waters for oil. There was plenty of oil & natural gas, abundance of fish in the area. China started to grab these islands and claiming it according to their fantasy map of 1947. The 1750 map of the Philippines made by Spain is evident enough because they saw Filipinos were already fishing in this areas.

    • @johnchiu7581
      @johnchiu7581 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The so-called fantasy map was approved by the USA in 1947 after the U.S. drew the boundaries of the Philippines in 1946. China wanted to reclaim the whole area after centuries of European domination. If you go back to 1750, then many countries can go back that far too and claim this or that. Let's apply that principle equally. You just support whatever the U.S. wants.

    16:29 I noticed this as well as a Filipino. And I feel like other nations did too. This shift began when the Philippines won the arbitration and manifested with the firm assertion of The Philippines' maritime and territorial rights (like steadfast and firm actions snd reactions against China like that one incident of cutting of a sea line laid by the CCG or the continuation of sending supplied to Sierra Madre) but most importantly bilateral and multilateral diplomacy with other nations. From the further extension of VFA, EDCA, and MDT with the US. To the recently signed reciprocal visiting forces with Japan. And the trilateral agreement with Japan and the US. Even the visit of Zelensky signals the recognition that Ukraine sees China as a threat as well along with Russia and recognizes that our stance against China is acknowledged. Moreso now that the Chinese conducted military exercises with Belarus near Poland and Ukraine's border.
    It's peculiar in a way, because as a Filipino, I know that we are the weak link but only in terms of equipment and economy. But the country's geography and political decisions are so vital in nternational geopolitics that we have no choice but to deal with countries far more economically and militarily superior than us like Japan and the US.
    To be honest, The Philippines cannot afford to just be a developing country considering our geography and the reality of geopolitics. We've always been in this position even prior to European colonization. We really need to get up our asses and accelerate the country's growth not out of nationalism but for survival. China is an existential threat to us in the long-run. So we should stop voting for dumb celebrities.
    Also! You have to do a podcast with Former Justice Antonio Carpio please! He spear-headed the Arbitral case which the PH won AND he recently proposed some short-term and long-term methods about the political and cognitive warfare that the interviewee is talking about.

    The United States had a chance and they let go. They once owned the Philippines.
    With great respect to the Philippines and the Filipino people, they could have developed the islands into one of their permanent territories.
    So many natural resources in this country and could have doubled the U.S. economy. They could have controlled
    the Indo-Pacific region and taken care of Japan, South Korea as well as controlling China The enormous natural resources wealth of the Philippines
    could have been developed by the United States. Philippines is the most strategic location in this earth.
    Today, if the United States lost the Philippines, it's over for the United States in Indo-pacific.

The PH has been and is now seeing a boom, in retiree expat "Gringos" moving there. The two main reasons are Filipina's, who love us, and cost of living, about half the USA. as you said the Philippines CV could be a very supportive ally of the US...the Philippines has shown loyalty to the US since WW2...the Philippines has fought for democracy and laid their lives on the side of the US during the Korean war, WW2 n the Vietnam war....and as Gen.D. MacArthur was quoted as saying after the Korean War - "give me a thousand Filipino soldiers and i will conquer the world"....this words of ,Gen MacArthur was a testament to the valiant 400 Filipino soldiers who held off about 40,000 Chinese soldiers in the Battle of Yultong as the American forces to pull back for reinforcement of its forces....and there is the battle of Bataan n Corregidor where again the brave Filipino soldiers held back the formidable Japanese forces to help Gen MacArthur escape to Australia....these bravery of the Filipino soldiers in standing up against the Japanese delayed Japan's war time table in invading Australia n for the Americans to recover their losses in the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor....the Japanese military underestimated the bravery n tenacity of Filipino soldiers who Jaan thought was an easy push over when they easily run over Indo Chins.....n because of WW2 the Philippines suffered the most n Manila was destroyed , second only to the destruction of Warsaw in Poland accdg. to world history during WW2....

    The world is like a one big family and the nations as the siblings. When one errs or has.untoward agenda over a sibling you ISOLATE the one bullying and obviously the one with the malevolent intention. Ties obviously severed because that malevolence is a precedent and naturally everybody should act on it lest it spreads its error and affects one after another as was experienced during the pandemic. The world had and choses to never learn from it. The Philippines my beloved though learned much and doing core initiatives to avert and the ones who align will never regret doing so.

    US dont want to lose money if they go into war. They have been too many wars recently that I know your government is really trying to tone down in asia. Also i know your citizens dont want anymore war. But in the case of rhe Philippines, although we have a lot to lose, we are used to being poor. That’s why we have a fighting mentality.

      What this guy is forgetting is that apart from the very rich natural resources, the govt is also rich in corruption thus a wide window of opportunity to leverage into manipulation and exploitation.

    As a Filipino citizen, PBBM should not allow Chinese to do this to our soldiers with orders not to defend them?
