I am happy for you. It was no surprise to me when "The Beast" fired up. I have two Suzuki bikes. A Boulevard C50SE and a 2003 Vstrom dl1000. The Vstrom was my best friends bike, and when he passed away, the family gave it to me. It had sat in storage for eight years. Before they gave it to me they threw a new battery in it and a splash of fuel and it fired right up. I have had the bike thoroughly looked over by a mechanic and did a full service on it and it runs awesome. It has 94,000 kilometers on it. I leave for a 5000km ride through Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec and the Maritime provinces of eastern Canada, in a few weeks. I will be documenting this trip on my TH-cam channel as well. Good luck on the GSXR. Gota love a liter bike!!!! Love your channel, especially your Canary Island Tours.

I had ALMOST FORGOTTEN that I first started watching this channel with your RTW on THAT BIKE.
Have half a tank of fuel for it on me. You are one of the good guys, Bruce. J

Having had 2 K9s, still have 1 of them, i had absolutely no doubts that bike would start up. Gixers are just warriors ❤

I can't believe that Suzuki haven't asked for the beast in there museum,(shame on them) it's such an iconic machine with a fantastic story ❤❤... So pleased Bruce that you will get to ride her again 🤟💪🤟💪

Great example of how the older bikes without loads of electronics were some of the best. Looking forward to seeing how this goes 👍

It’s still fuel injection so still has all the electrics that can go wrong but proves looking after ya bikes they look after you

Suzuki GSXR are probably one of the few bikes that could be trusted to fire up without a problem. One of the best bulletproof engines ever made.

the choking up as you started it brought back memories for me. my dad had cancer back in 2016 (it eventually got him) but he had a Ford Transit van and to add to his bad luck while battling the cancer, the vans fuel pump packed in and it was £600 or so for a new one. eventually he got the money and got a new fuel pump, his cancer was hurting him so i was under the van on the driveway putting the pump in, got it all ready, i used my van to jump start it and when that van fired up it was the last time i saw my dad smile. it was such a great feeling out of all the old engine starts i had in my life. he was a builder, even though in pain he was fighting it and strong, out on the site directing me what to do as i worked for him and learned loads, a good 3 or 4 months before he has to go into hospital and then eventually the end.
life in the future will be weird with electric vehicles, internal combustion engines really have a soul in them, if you look after them they run sweet, if they annoyed you know about it, if they got life in them (which that bike certainly has) they fire up when you really dont think they will and tell you "come on, lets go somewhere, hurry up and get me on the road again". Great video Bruce.

Most of us panic when bikes get to 20000 miles think it's time to get rid of them 😂

Well, I knew it wasn't a Ducati when it fired up first time after 6 years. lol I used to have a Suzuki myself once, that was the one thing I could always rely on. It fired up easy AF every time you breathed on the starter button. Nice one guys! Love to see the BEAST live again!

That's one legendary bike, right there. When you finish riding it mate, I think she deserves a special spot somewhere inside your home. I'd put it in a "man cave" type a room, she'd be the only gal allowed to enter. She'd fit right in. Hopefully many more miles ahead for you. Cheers.

Go on Bruce! What a bike. My first bike was a Suzuki SFV 650 man I loved it. Put 50k miles on it before selling her at 70,000 miles no issues at all only had to adjust the valves once in that time! Sold it when had my first child and thought I'd get a bike with abs.. just incase lol. Mistake that was! That was a Yamaha tracer 900 sold it after putting 24k miles on it. Plauged with issues and valves need adjusting every 12k miles. My triumph 765rs is a better triple lol 20k miles later only had to replace a headlight bulb. Can't wait to see this running again. Caldwell eh? Let me know when😂

Great stuff guys! I have worked on a few Japanese bikes over the years and have found them to be incredibly reliable compared to some others. Most recently I was given a Honda that had sat under cover for over 10 years. Got it home, checked oil, fuel, and thought I'll see if it starts, and was pleasantly surprised to see that it did. I also work on European bikes, it's not always such an easy resurrection. Looking forward to the further episodes. Cheers!

The GSXR1000 tought as you like! I know I had a GSXR1000K4 in 3 years I put 45K mils on. It was my only bike so it did tharck days I went touring on it and got and it was putting a smile on my face every time I was riding it. It was used all year round sun rain or snow. And it never missed a bit. I was crying my eyes out when I was selling it. I'm looking forward to the whole build series!!

Just brilliant hearing that bike start so easily after standing for so long. Testimony to Suzuki quality and perhaps lack of complex electronics that cause so many issues on modern bikes. While driving across France yesterday we were listening to a couple of your old pod casts including with Mrs Teapotone. Fascinating and entertaining, you've both seen alot of places. I'm sure that bike holds many great memories

Unfortunately for me the tank was full of rust (thanks ethanol) and the pump was goosed.

Fantastic sign that it fired right up and sound healthy, that is a good start right away for this project. 👍
Cause the Beast will get back in shape, will you get in the white leathers again also? I mean this could be a goal, taking it easy on the trusty old Suzuki (Not my fault, you always mention the 20 stone so you had to see this coming 😉). 😄😂
