Fantastic! The folks at Ober do a super job against some tough odds. Ski snobs like to make fun of Ober. Go out west, then. BTW they've remodeled the restaurant area into a place that feels like a western ski lodge.

Thanks for the comment! This is the only ski resort in Tennessee. Ober does a great job of maximizing snow guns with natural snow considering the rapidly changing climate of the smoky mountains. The trails had been freshly groomed before I filmed this video.

All in all, how would you rate this place? I've never gone skiing and wanted to see if this place is any good to learn

This is the best skiing available in Tennessee. East coast skiing can be very icy. They cater to a lot of beginner skiers and have rentals available. Heavily dependent on weather conditions. Always good to check the slope report and arrive early.

Nice video. I’ve skied N. California my whole life in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. My wife and I will be retiring this coming spring and considering Motor-homing the USA then settling somewhere between Knoxville & Johnson City.
I didnt relieze slopes were that nice in TN. Appears good grooming as well. Is the snow icy or packed powder?
You ski well & make a good video!

More icy than powder. The temperatures just aren't cold enough to keep it dry. I usually ski SnowShoe in WV, and I live in Atlanta. I learned in Utah snow, up at Alta and Snowbird. I miss the soft powder. The skiing in OberGatlinburg is very limited, but just close enough in location to keep me from driving 8 more hours to some actual slopes every year. That being said, it is worth the price and gets you on the skiis.

Amazing video...did you drive up the mountain or took the tram. Asking cause I'm going in couple weeks. Wanted to know the best way to get up there without paying the tram

Thanks. I’ve done both. The best thing to do is follow their twitter page for parking and tram updates. They also have webcams of the slopes and parking lot on their website.

I’ve been skiing in Wa, ID, and MT my entire life so this was a very painful lesson to learn about moving to TN, but it was a nice video!

Thanks. I am working on it. Waterskiing habits are hard to break.

@@timoptic16 lol fair enough bro thanx for posting the video. Im moving to Kingsport soon so maybe ill see on the slopes next year. I was pleasantly surprised how many ski areas there were within 1-2 hours of Kingsport.
