Never think you know it all! 33 yrs remodeling and I found this one full of little nuggets that will prove useful. I'm sometimes surprised at the things we take for granted and things we do that we don't reallu understand why. I just wish I had a memory; I wouldn't be rewatching some of these, but he's really a great teacher!

As a nubie "DIY" guy who was struggling with my drywall seams. My advice to any other person struggling with drywall seams is to get the same style trowel he is using in this video! I had a regular style drywall knife and I didn't want to purchase yet another tool but I can tell you that a "trowel " like he is using is a game changer ! Just the way you hold it naturally makes it better! I went from seams that no matter what I did I had to redo ,sand etc etc....it was extremely frustrating! Once I got my hands on a trowel my seams got better and a few hours later I was finishing seams that didn't require sanding. Its amazing.
I agree, I've learned this way from ben and I am doing drywall finishing as an additional to what my business offers already.

I did some work for an old boss of mine. It was my first time really drywalling beyond patching holes. I did several rooms, ceilings and all. I feel bad now after seeing all the proper ways to do things, even though I think it came out looking presentable. I was basically just googling what I should do every day and flying by the seat of my pants. This channel has given me so much information, I feel confident that I could make it look even better if I have to do it again. Now at least I have a few tools already bought, I just need the practice.
Most carpenters are horrible at doing drywall, particularly spackling. You sir are not one of them! Your technique’s and explanation of them are calm and clear which makes them easy to follow and understand. Your a boss for sure! I’ve been doing drywall my whole life and it’s nice to see how other people do it especially when it’s well layed out like you’ve done. Thanks for doing this!

The Canadian taper hawk and trowel lmao. I find it funny coming from the states but it's very effective I see. You're a master
Trowel is the way no question. All you need is a small knife to accompany one trowel for almost any job, less tools to clean and carry. And it so much easier on the wrist and quick to apply mud.
I had been watching another guy that yes has 30 yrs experience and has been wildly insightful for me in what I'm doing. However, Thank you your ways of explaining it are far more comprehensible for me anyway and I love the fact each motion you make repetitive as it is helps me big time especially with this ceiling. I'm out the game some years and took on a 12×12 ceiling and a few other walls, but what I've found that's I think gonna work is I'm setting my 10'' up square and marking every 3-4ft the width of the 10 for my coat passes, then switched to the 12" for butt joints. Homeowner did not so great hanging it, every screw had the ding test😢 So, before pre-fill prep there was plenty of prep bfr real prep could begin. Anyone gotta suggestion on good fast texture that'll make my end game better? House is being sold and it literally needs to be Just good enough! Thought about rolling on mud, and just bump slide it, told them I couldn't possibly match the walls. I can come close but not really. Maybe just shoot it and call it done.

Your advice and talent is amazing I followed your tips and technique and achieved a level 5 finish on my sons ceiling bedroom. I have to say I was the one who went through the ceiling in the first place as I was rewiring his room from the attic above - but hey no one’s perfect.

I finished drywalling a basement and did all the taping and mudding. Even though I’m really good at it, god I hate doing it. Especially the sanding!

Love you're video's and I've learned a lot thanks. Couple things I do that I haven't seen you mention. I use an old kitchen spatula to get the mud out of the bucket. Works great and you can clean the sides easy, also works good to mix small batches by hand in the bucket. Another tip... you can save premixed mud in the bucket for much longer if you use plastic wrap (cellophane) over the top before you put on the lid. I use this trick to save mud and other things like floor leverer or wood putty. Basically anything that can dry out. Thanks again and keep on truckin!

Thanks to you I learned to do tape and float. I follow all of your pointer and I wish I could show you my finish work. It turned out nice. The sad part is that I have to cover it texture lol my wife wants texture. But I did my best

Love you channel for DIYers. You should put links for the items you recommend. Don’t go crazy but everything you use in that episode would probably make you at least a car payment or two a year. To be honest I’m a handyman and have never heard of sponged back sandpaper. Didn’t realize it was sold BY THE ROLL. I’ve only seen it when it already cut and glued on a sponge wedge. I just bought two rolls off amazon. You would have made .50 or so.

I always three coat my flats. First with a 12", then a 14" and then I skim the joint. By the time your done it's about 2 feet wide but gosh darn do they turn out good.
Great video! We always coat everything at once. We do a lot of hot mud in the repair section of drywall.
I still do it in order, I just crack up the heat on small jobs, mud sets up faster.

Drives me crazy how you can put a coat on the ceiling in one pass. My mud in splotchy dripping all over my face. And I've done a decent amount of drywall. Never been trained other than your videos but damn I can't do it. Finished product is fine but I'm not clean.

I'm going to take a wild guess how he became a drywaller yeah he's a construction worker one day he was walking with a 2 by 6 backed up and a 2 by 6 put a hole through the wall supervisor said you did it you fix it ever since then he's been playing in the mud

Another excellent vid... Thanks .. Seems I have spent a whole lotta time, going over and over my mud on the first pass to get it as good as I can get it. Seeing you breeze through the first coat really helps. Will dig into the vid's for a 'second coat' video .. and hope I can see some 'sanding' before that coat. Me , working on my 7th coat, to get to level 4 :-) ...............................sigh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought a couple of boxes of ready mixed drywall mud when I started my basement two years ago and wondering if they are still good to use. I never opened them and could not find any expiration date on box.
You’ll probably find them moldy when you do open them. For the money- just buy fresh.

Yes you can ..... it’s called a days work you coat the flats let them set for a bit coat your inside angles then the seams should be good to coat your bead and then your def good to coat your but joints unless your a beginner

Ive watched a lot of your videos and i have a small 8×8 square with 2 windows i had to replace along with drywall. And now i have to mud it for knockdown texture. Im not sure what mud mix to use since ive never done any drywall mudding before.

I don't do much mudding these days but when l did l don't remember the premixed mud being so thick. Should it be mixed with water before using now?
