    This guy is literally the most interesting man in America. He has more hobbies that hipsters would love to mimic.

    I bought a 1980 Norwood loom recently, cleaning it up now. The cherry loom has an oil finish, Nora is a beauty! This NEW weaver is going to start weaving rugs with very old Aunt Lydia's Rug Yarn. The blue paper on the reed is peeling back, will it catch the warp string while weaving? What would you do about the reed? So thankful to see you do a loom video!

      The paper is just there to protect the string wraps that set the gauge of the reed, as long as the strings are ok it should be fine. You could always just run a strip of tape over it, I sometimes do that if the reed sits too loose in the grooves it sits in on the beater.

    You are a true Early American artist, woodsman, sawyer, carpenter, mechanic, and rifleman that takes the time to teach us how to live a simple life. Pine tar on tools, weapons and furniture will last for generations due to your hands on instructions. Thanks so much for your helpful channel which is a blessing.

    Good video. I worked shows in NY State and New England for close to 20yrs. I had a commercial picture framing shop set-up in my basement. So I worked every evening til late making product and traveled and sold on the weekend. A lot of work, but it helped put our daughter through college. Over time I built up a great clientele of repeat customers that I got to know personally along with other vendors I'd see at the shows. Lot of great people from all different walks of life out doing the same thing I was. I miss those days and my old friends. I've been out of it for many years now, but still have the complete shop downstairs. But, you're exactly right about finding you're customer base.....because if you don't, you're just wasting you're time. Something you had to learn as you go, nobody was going to teach you that. Thanks for the video.

    Definitely interested in anything weaving. I made my own loom a few years ago and weave. It is a Swedish vertical countermarch with 8 shafts. Lots of folks out there doing same, not high numbers, but we are here.

    Thank you so much for sharing. I really appreciate it. I have always been fascinated by weaving. Our closest neighbor 5 miles down the road has a loom but I don't think she does much anymore as she is poorly at 93. She told my husband she would teach me but then fell ill. It's a shame that I missed out on learning a skill from master. She only speaks French and I only speak English but I'm sure we could have managed. Blessings from the Bas- Saint Laurant in Quebec! Found your channel through Arkansas prepper channels recommendation.

    Thank you so much for this channel and the loom videos, I have learned a lot from them. I received an ORCO 70 (used) for Christmas 2018 and the warp was on the warp beam backwards. My very patient husband and I worked it on correcting it without having to unthread the whole thing. What gave the backwardness away was the brake didn't work. I am really struggling with the brake and would really appreciate a video that shows how to use the brake correctly. I have made one rug out of T-shirts that taught me a lot. Thank you again.

    • @logcabinlooms
      @logcabinlooms  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Next time I am at Mom's I will do a video on the brake one the Orco, it does differ from the original Union design. Your not the first with backwards warp, the easiest way to correct it is roll it off unto a second loom, then run it back on, but not everyone has a second loom lying around. T shirts are one of the harder things to start out weaving, stretchy materials will give you trouble keeping the edges straight, the tendency is to pull in which starts breaking the outside warp. An easy thing to start with is corduroy, packs well, and makes a rug that's solid and doesn't slide on a floor.

      @@logcabinlooms Oh, thank you for the advice. We wound the warp off the beam using long tubes/broom handles and wound it back through a dog comb as it didn't come with a warping comb. I've bought one since. I really look forward to seeing your Mom's brake. Thank you in advance.

    I just bought a Union Loom. Will be picking it up next week in Columbus, Ohio. Worried I will have to take it apart to fit in the vehicle and getting it in the door and into my small home. I am so excited about finding the loom and making rugs, thanks to you & your logcabinlooms & cuttingthe rug TH-cam channels. What type of warp do you recommend using? Who do you purchase the warp from? I really enjoy your gardening, cooking and weaving videos.

    I've got quite a bit of use out of the rug I bought. I used it in the living room for years, now that the kids are old enough to shoot, I put it in the range bag as a shooting mat. I'm interested in a big denim rug if you get back into it.

    Can you give any advice on buying a used loom? Such as, if a loom is over 40 years old one should not pay more than $400 for it. Thanks.
