To my mind the greatest progressive rock band with three of the most talented musicians of all time
This band was the kind of band that every music group should strive to be like. They made their music look and sound fun. To tell a story in such an abstract and exciting kind of way. We get great music from musicians who experiment and are creative and have a lot of fun doing it.
My first ever rock concert was ELP in 1977, 10th grade. It was frickin' fantastic! So much power from just three superb musicians. I was a percussionist in high school and we sat in the nosebleed section and we were looking straight down on Carl Palmer and see his every move. It was mesmerizing, to say the least.
Hey Mike believe it or not, he's better now than back then! Unbelievable!
Keith had the best left hand in the business.
Hey, all you people that love rock and roll, this is actually Classical music. Those old composers back in the day such as Strauss and Mozart were wild and crazy. They probably did drugs too.
still amazes me all these years on how good they were,
RIP Keith Emerson. You were the VERY best. Thank you for all you did for prog rock and rock in general.
beautiful........ I am sad,,, along with the rest of the world
+Pam Nichols ... hard to believe he's gone.. He shone so brightly.. now he's gone.. so sad.
70's keyboard players. Love 'em.
I love the orchestral version of this. ELP just pushes it to another level. Fantastic!
I'm a girl (well, lady) and have adored ELP since 1974 aged just 10 years old.
Keith Emerson the mad scientist musician. He and Rick Wakeman. ELP and YES two great progressive bands. I'm glad I grew up with them.
R.I.P. Keith. You will be missed.
Rest in Peace, Keith, thank you for all the music.
Am I right in thinking that only Carl Palmer is still alive? so many greats gone but never forgotten.. I was born Feb 25th 1950.. all my music era...
That drummer was definitely inspired by the great Buddy Rich. His drum solo had many techniques of Buddies big band jazz style playing. That was truly an amazing drum solo. And he put his own twist on it. Soooo cool.
Carl Palmer is a very fit guy.
+neile2001 - while Greg Lake had became a very fat guy ;)
I saw them in 1977 with a 100 piece orchestra and they were simply incredible!
Had the privilege of seeing them right out of high school June 1977 Charlotte NC 3 of the greatest musicians ever need to be in the Hall of Fame ❤
another rock god of my youth joins the big rock concert in the sky ,thanks for all the pleasure you gave me
Palmer's left hand on that snare -- over and over and over, for 10 minutes. It's hypnotic.
I was there as I lived in Munich back then, you can spot me when the audience in shown in total view at the beginning - the guy in the half-right middle frame, black hair, glasses, blue shirt hands clapping in the air over his head. Always a huge ELP fan, I have rediscovered the work of Greg Lake again listening to his versions of Lucky Man and Epitah. I usually send his clip of "I believe in father Christmas" to family and friends around Christmas. What a legend these three where. Creators of music and lyrics, arrangement geniuses und true performers. Miss them.
This is my farewell to a unique, unbelievably talented musician, who taught me something I never expected from a rock genius...
I have always been a classical music enthusiast...But, as you grow older, you realize you haven't heard even half, or one third, of what there is out there to hear..in your lifetime....Some folks would say I got acquainted to Claude Debussy backwards, because the first time I heard Claire de Lune, it was ELP's rendition of this marvelous piece...And, in a way, I'm glad I did..backwards, that is..Cause you usually start by hearing the original version first...But not this time...And I'm glad for that....
Thank you, Keith Emerson, by opening my ears to a composer I never really paid the attention I fortunately now see he most definitely deserved, and whom I otherwise would've missed out on..big time....
R.I.P. genius.
They could play all night and I could listen all night. Simply incredible. Thanks for posting.
Wow... It´s amazing... thanks Aaaron Copland..
What a marathon of a song. I wish I could have seen this in person.
KEITH EMERSON comited suicide and GREG LAKE died from cancer r.i.p TWO OF THE GREATEST musicians EVER GONE forever but never forgotten
Yes he will be missed forever I had the chance to stand about 12 ft from him and watch him do his thing these guys were so good they didn't need a fourth player they could do it all I agree rest in peace Keith and Greg
That drum solo was just freaking brilliant!
Brilliant.......including Bumble Bee and Carmina Burana. Sadly never got to see this group live. A great regret. RIP Keith.
Long live ELP. We will never forget you - Keith!
An irreplacable place has left Keith Emerson. RIP
I would say Greg Lake is a great musician, since plays bass well enough to keep up with threse two virtuosi he plays with , and he has one of the best voices in rock music.
R.I.P. Keith Emerson
I had no idea he died! :( Damn! I've so tuned out to the news that stuff like this now happens under the radar.
This was the first concert that my wife and I took my son to at age 9 months at the Concord Pavilion. We sat on the grass along with many other families in the very back where the sound wasn't too loud. He followed the lights and show with rapt attention for 30 minutes and then collapsed into deep sleep. A good memory!
Rip Greg Lake
We will miss you, Keith Emerson. RIP
ELP in finest form-with one of their best songs-Thanks forever to KEITH and GREG.....
R.I.P. Keith Emerson. Great Music.
I Saw them around this time in New Jersey was in the front row what a show they gave that night.!!!
i was in high school 69-72 and elp was my favorite band.watching this video gives ne goose bumps and tears,i.m so happy with memories.thanks elp.great musicians.
UN GRAN MÚSICO. LO SIENTO. QUE DESCANCES EN PAZ KEITH. QUE DIOS FORTALEZCA A SU FAMILIA.
I'm just missing my teenage years, BrainiacFingers. The music was great. I could live in the groove of "Misty Mountain hop". My husband is a hot grandpa who CAN still play. Chops don't have to deteriorate.
No words... absolutely mind blowing show!
Jeez! Carl Palmer is still an animal on drums!
Gênio. Descanse em paz!
I was in the audience during this 1997 tour in Luxembourg, Amsterdam, Dortmund, Kassel and Fulda - and the amount of energy EL&P are sharing with the audience is incredible !
In 1968 I played with a soul band, The Phoenix City Smash, who supported The Nice (Keith Emersons band) at Manchester University. Amazed, my concept of music changed to be come more progressive. Emerson takes music to a higher level. How far can you go
The REAL POWER TRIO!!!!
A coming to battle Cadence, so darn exciting to feel the power.
Excellent performance :-) A "BIG" thumbs up :-) ROCK ON!!!!!!!!
uuhh I'm a girl and I have loved ELP for over 30 years
Sensacional.😎😜
Damn that keyboard is a work of art !!!
R.I.P. Greg Lake
Emerson, Lake & Palmer channeling Copeland--I love it!
Like all of the biggest musicians, older and much better !
LA VERDAD TRES MUSICOS ESQUISITOS LA OCTAVA MARAVILLA EN MUSICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
¡¡¡¡¡Y NO TE QUEDASTE CORTO PARANADA¡¡¡¡¡
their best piece of music.
fantastic arrangement of a classis tune. Genius
One of my first ablums had buy, was 17ten, now 40 years later love it!
only 19 years remaining.. .. .. .. .
R.I.P Keith you were a pure genius
Simply astonishing musicians
The God Bless You...12. 03. 2016.
God that brings back some great memories.
Rush y obviamente ELP).
thank you very much for uploading! +++++++!!!
K thanks.
I swear that drum solo is not humanly possible with less than 3 people!
r i p keith emerson thank u for the music
Emerson is playing the Alesis QS8 which was pretty new at the time. Apparently he commissioned the Alesis company to record the synth-brass samples of his mighty-sounding and mega-expensive Yamaha GX1 into the QS8 and then used the keyboard as marketing for both Alesis and ELP. I have the QS8 and regularly use that GX1 sound myself to play this tune. If it was good enough for Keith it's good enough for me.
Man they sound as good as ever!
Related to Steward Copeland from the police. It was written by the great American composer Aaron Copeland.
FANTÁSTICO 💞 👏 👏 🇧🇷
There won't be certainly another one like Keith or Greg.. RIP hope your making some great stuff
Just freakin' incredible !!!
SHOW!!!
Nota10 e esta música é Fantástica!!!
Noble & Cooley snare drum. By far recognizable 12 gauge shot sound.
R.I.P Keith you're the best.
He was probably thinking of Greg Lake's time in King Crimson, with Robert Fripp (1968-69).
Excellent !!!
Great band! They branched off into other bands? I am trying to recall who when where..
stecklein7 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerson,_Lake_%26_Palmer
Dio, grazie per esserci stato!
Amazing..pure genius.
They are great players, indeed very interesting keyboard player the sounds he is making.
@rhythm head
I have to agree. Greg's bass style is crisp and clean. His part may not be front and center because as part of the rhythm section, he helps build the framework with Robert. Nonetheless, he shows stellar musicianship. Being precisely on beat through runs with varying tempo and holds that are not in his control shows the melding of Greg's zone with Robert and Keith. Doubling up his notes at the speeds that they can go, well it impresses me.
'Fabulous performance!
hmm .. "Robert" ?
Praps that's your pet name for Carl Frederick Kendall Palmer? ;-)
One the Greatest Tribute Songs ever composed and written and used for a Tribute Song for the Fallen Members of the U.S. Armed Services. (Any War, or Conflict where our men, and women have gone for the Cause of Freedom and Democracy ! Ooo-rah, to the Members of Emerson, Lake , and Palmer !
Hate to break it to you Walter, but I'm pretty sure giving props to dead Yank soldiers was not on Keith's mind when he jazzed up his second Copland piece.
Credit for rolling this joint up in the Stars and Stripes for the US Navy's recruitment ads of the early 90's goes to some nameless flack hunkered down in some dank cubicle of the Pentagon's vast PR department. President Poppy and the brass really dug those ads, so I assume the flack got a nice, shiny promotion.
Prior to that. an in-house knock-off of Keith's arrangement was the theme song of "CBS Sports Spectacular" during the late 70's.
Actually, Copland's original inspiration for the piece was a 1942 speech (entitled "Century of the Common Man") given by a fellow whom the reptilian ancestors of today's TeaBaggers loathed worse than Black Satan hisself -- FDR's Vice President and former Agriculture Secretary, Henry A. Wallace,
"Uncle Henry" was one of the finest, ablest, and most effective public servants in all of American history. Google him, read his Wiki, watch Ken Burns' "The Dust Bowl" series, or Ollie Stone's "The Untold History of the United States, Part 1", get educated.
Nice tip to Brubeck too!
wowwwww !!!!!!!!!
isto sim é um show !!!!!!
I saw this tour and I didn't notice any of Emerson's magic gone.
