    I LOVE Big Agnes. They stand behind their products. Had a mattress that started getting holes around the rip stop after about 8 years. They sent me a new one that was an upgrade at no charge at all.

      I love it when companies do that.

    I wish when people did reviews on the air mattresses that they showed us how laying on them, getting on them, side sleeping position are . this would help us see how well they protect you from sinking to the ground.

    I have a 20 year old lost ranger and still use it. I have replaced all my other gear in this period. No desire to replace it. Love this system. I toss and turn stomach back side side stomach side back side stomach allllll night long.
    I also have two 20 year old Big Agnes Cross creeks that zip together. No regrets investing in Big Agnes.

      Great to hear! I just like getting people informed and getting good stuff that'll help them!

    • @Andreas-ni2lt
      @Andreas-ni2lt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, getting these things for free is kinda like being sponsored, isn't it?
      Don't get me wrong, I like the review, I just think fully unbiased would be only possible if you pay for it yourself.

    • @zorbcck
      @zorbcck 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Andreas-ni2lt Fully understand what you mean - it's a tough position for the reviewer. 'Do I give a completely honest review including the ugly parts and tarnish the possibility of not getting future 'free' products to review...or do over-exagerate aspects'. Either way, always best to take these with a grain of salt and use it as part of your buying decision process.

    • @BackpackingTV
      @BackpackingTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I understand your position, but no free gear is not like a sponsorship. I do still pay for gear sometimes but it's impractical to drop cash on every product. Getting something for free doesn't stop me from having a critical eye. But yes, take reviews with a grain of salt for many reasons, including I might not like something you may love.

    Great review! I will have to try that BA sleeping bag.
    I took you recommendation to invest in a quality sleep system from an earlier video and purchased a Big Agnes Q-Core Deluxe, very similar to this one. Honestly, could not have made a better decision to increase my family's enjoyment of camping and backpacking. Also, as you stated, for the 25" wider option. Thank you!

    Hi Eric, I have been following you for years and I actually love your videos - thank you. I got surprised at 2:57 I thought Big Agnes started to use the ISO EN 23537-1:2016 standard for temp rating of sleeping bags for not having that "arbitrary" rating you are talking about. ISO EN 23537-1:2016 gives you the exact temperature (at least for Celcius) for comfort, lower limit, and extreme. Here in Europe, we have used this standard for years, and finally, US companies started to use the standard too, so it is actually possible to compare one sleeping bag with another, no matter what company it is from. Find the temperature rating that fits you and you don't worry about which brand but does it have the features you want.

    • @BackpackingTV
      @BackpackingTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well said! Although I still think temperature ratings are a little more subjective in the US industry than they could be.

    That sleeping bag looks super comfortable. $180 is fairly middle of the road for a decent pad too, though I’ve heard there’s some leaking issues. BA makes some killer products though. Love their copper spur HV UL3 tent. So roomy for 2 and that huge bin 3D pocket is the best. Great review and videos.

    Good review thanks Eric. I’m looking for a minus 15 deg F bag under 900grams but not too expensive ? Any thoughts ? Could you also use metric measurements as us Europeans struggle with the imperial measurements 😬

  • @katblackmountain6091
    @katblackmountain6091 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I am confused...the sleeping bag ist "ultra light" even though, if has not one, but 3(!) zippers?! Wow. Other chanels hype up quilts, because you can not get any lighter with no zippers at all, so they say.
    Any thoughts?

    • @wyattroncin941
      @wyattroncin941 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      well, this bag is $400 and weighs 2lbs 2oz. for comparison, the thermarest chorus 20f quilt is 1lbs 10oz, but only cost $260. and it is filled with 650 fill down, so a 850 fill quilt would be even lighter.
      the actual savings in a quilt are from no having insulation below you, crushed by your weight and doing very little to insulate you.

    I got a question so I'm new getting into backpacking. I got some places that I'd like to go to, but some of the areas around have a lot of pinion pines. How would you manage camping in an area with a lot of pine needles? What are the things you can do to avoid poking holes in your tent or in your air mattress. Do you just brush as much of them away or do you find a better spot?

    • @BackpackingTV
      @BackpackingTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I go backpacking in piñon pine country all the time. The pine needles are not that big of a deal and most backpacking gear should be able to withstand them. Just look for rogue needles that are sticking straight up. But generally when you set up your tent the needles will lay flat.

      I put a foam mattress underneath to protect the air bed, it’s also a back up if the air bed does go down. Cumbersome to carry but also handy to sit on at lunch time or relaxing around camp.

    Do you use a compression sack or spread out your sleeping bag to freely squoosh at the bottom of your pack?

    • @BackpackingTV
      @BackpackingTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I typically use the stuff sack the bag comes with, it's neither free floating not completely compressed. But compression sacks are great and I endorse them!

    Please show us how small it can be when in a compressed bag state, max compressed. Don't just say it. When the air is that cold you need to cover your face almost completely ( -30 and less Celcius in the snow), you sure have not used the right tent for that conditions; too much mesh for the cold not showed on the video, nor the right sleeping pad! More like R 7+
