thank you so much, i love watching your reviews on watercolours i always seem to go away with a deeper understanding of pigments/hues and how to get the most from what ever palette or company you purchase from...also, i've learnt so much about colour theory and colour mixing - it's so much fun mixing your own colours and getting more from your palette than going with premixed colours - i had the courage to put together a small palette of nine pans being frugal myself i repurposed the blister packs that medication comes in using them to hold my paint and it works really well thanks for the inspiration and courage to explore :)
That's a GREAT idea to reuse medication blister packs! I myself am always on the lookout at my job for how I can repurpose discarded boxes, bottles, etc for personal use LOL
thanks! There are so many and it can be really hard to discern any difference between them so I try to really go in depth so people can buy what will suit their needs and avoid duplicates of items that just won't do what they want to accomplish:)
This was SO SO uber helpful. Thank you so much for this Lindsay. I learnt so much about paint in general and i loved your totally unbiased review. I will rewatch and reference this many times over.
Excellent review, as always, Lindsay. I've eyeballed this product, but held off not knowing enough to make me plunge. Your 8/10 stars and seeing how they perform confirms my initial feeling that they are not a "need" product, but a "want." There are lots of other sets/brands for me to explore, so this is one that's definitely on the list, just maybe not at the top! Thank you!! :)
Just rewatching this review because they inspire me to organize and swatch my paints. Play with color combos and just have fun. Thanks Lindsay for your advice and inspiration.
This was such an in-depth review, I appreciate it! You put a lot of work and thought into this and I just want to say thank you. I love playing with watercolors, but I usually use them on stamped images or make backgrounds for ATCs, cards and die cutting. As you mentioned, not having that much experience with watercolors, I probably wouldn't notice a lot of things you pointed out, but I sure appreciate learning about them. I always gain some sort of new information from your videos, Lindsay, so thank you very much for sharing what you know.
Beginner here and this was very helpful! My first set is Winsor Newton Cotman 24 half pans and they were a gift. I was looking for additional colors for florals (rapidly becoming my favorites)! Watching this saved me $$ as I got this set instead of several of the Prima Marketing collections. I'm awaiting the delivery from Amazon!
I appreciate your time to do such a thorough review. It helps me use my budget wisely for supplies that I'm really happy with instead of purchasing items that I am let down with after trying them because they don't work for me. Thank you!!!
This was my favorite video you've ever done because you helped so many people with this review! I love all the science involved behind the scenes in this review. Beautiful work!
Such a useful review, dear Lindsay. Thank you! I really wanted some of the Prima sets when they were introduced, but never did get any. I found these Mungyo's recently, at a bargain price. Your review has really helped me decide to get them! Happy painting 😊😊
This is just another GREAT review, Lindsey! I was just talking about getting the 3rd JD set and combining the three in one palette. I still will. My idea now is to get the Mungyo and maybe share the combined set with my niece. Or the other way around. You give me choices all the time. So thanks!!
This was so helpful thank you Lindsey I wanted the whole set of prima or jane davenport which would have cost me over £100 so looked at mungyo and they are £47 so I an so happy. Thank you so much for your energy, inspiration and most of all your knowledge of your crafts, love youuuuuu xxx
Your art work is beautiful, you can work so creatively with anything and make it look soooo good. I have 6 sets of prima, just cos I love sets and don't like to be missing anything ... I love the names of prima, but I have usually got the colours in other brands that aren't as chalky as prima are, but your work makes me want to get the best out of my paints so I press on learning watercolour, pigments, mixing etc and learning to actually make art I can enjoy. Thank you for such beautiful demos, always time well spent watching you.
Great review Lindsay! Very thorough. I had looked at these but have the Prima sets, except for the pastels, and I found a large tin pencil case (from Jet Pens) that I can fit them all in. I had already glued magnets on the bottom. I even had room for a few extra whole and half pans. So now I have them all at the ready and only have to open one pallet and the lid is perfect for mixing. Thanks again! Have a Great day!

Very informative, Lindsay. It helps to have this information while choosing which watercolors I want to try. I for one really appreciate your opinions and knowledge. Thank you so much!
I bought this MUNGYO watercolour pans because of you, and it's the BEST watercolour I own, so far!!! Far more better than my Winsor and Newton and my Sennelier!!! It's so "highly - pigmented", and the quality is so outstanding!!! Thanks!!! I have been painting "butterflies" with them, and one is even "SOLD" to a client from Dubai!!!!
I reviewed these last year and am so glad I’m not crazy for thinking the Prima and JD sets were dead ringers for colors in this palette. I’ve been enjoying them for a long while now and handed my small Prima and JD tins to my family and just keep this set with me in the studio 😊 thanks for going deeper with the comparisons and your thoughts, it helped me get a better understanding of what I’m using and validated that I’m not insane for enjoying them as a mixed media watercolor 🤣🤣
I think it was your review of these paints that spurred my viewers to request this review (I think we share many of the same viewers:) It was really intersting to compare the pigment info, seems the same to me, great colors ant a great price for any of the options:) Thanks for stopping by!

Great video and so glad you reviewed these! I caught on when James Burk was doing Mermay. I love them for all they are, at such a great price. I have several brands of Artist grade, even M Graham and Schminke, but I reach for these, and my Prima Tropicals also. Tropicals is duped in the set I think, need to double check. Have you ever done a purposefully fugitive painting. Say a vase of red roses that like real roses; turn brown and die. Love your videos, they cost me money but bring me joy!
Prima and JD little tins are cute but I don't want a tin of neutrals or brights etc. I always thought the whole idea was stupid. Sennelier is great, as the other posters have said. Also, you might want to try Qor watercolors. The great thing with professional quality watercolors is that you can get the individual colors. If these are too expensive, you might look into the Winsor and Newton Cotman line of colors.
Hi just found this video - just bought a 24 set mungyo watercolour set for £24.99 and the mungyo pastel set for £14.99 in The range. Thanks for the detailed review.
Wow, this was so informative. I have the first 2 J.D. sets and have been drooling over 3 of the Prima sets but couldn't get myself to throw out that much money for the 3 sets but the universe apparently loves me. My b day is on the 16th and I found a offer for the very 3 sets I wanted the price coming out to 18 bucks each AND guaranteed to be here by or on the 16th so how could I not get them? So happy b day to me from Amazon hahaha I have also come very close to getting this Mungyo set but just never quite talked myself into it and now I know why . Thank you 😊
I was looking at the Prima wc recently, and the Tropicals were just to my taste- funnily enough, all of the colors are either in or are mixable from my personal pallet! The colors were so similar and I guess it makes sense now why, since the paints are of similar origin! Hahah!
Thanks for this! I love the color palette of the 48 set.of all I see out there, this is my favorite 48 color palette and would've sold me right there if it was an option at the time. I only have two prima sets. This is interesting. I may buy this set because I only have two prima’s and this is all in one set. Thank you for the review 💜
There are differences and similarities, the gansai tambi paints are in huge pans (that probably contain the same amount of paint as a half pan) that are nice if you use big brushes. These Mungo flow better and the gansi stay where you put them more. The gansai will dry with a slight sheen f applies thickly and the mungyo can dry with a bit of opacity if used thickly. I would say they are comparable in quality and lightfastness tho. Also the mungyo have a palette and the Gansai are in a cardboard box so you need an additional mixing area. Hope that helps:)
. Thank you so much for this video Lindsay in the end I will have saved a lot of money in purchasing this set of 48. I appreciate your videos so much, Thank you, from one of your Canadian Fan's :)
Hi Lindsay, in your opinion would it be a waste of $ to get the Prima Watercolors Currents (blues & greens) set along with this one? I currently just have a Cotman 45 half pan set and wanted to add in some more unique colors. I originally was going to try to track down all the JD and Prima palettes and I'm so glad I found your review here because it will definitely save me time and $ so thank you!! Love your videos and tutorials! :)
I dont think there is anything in the currents palette that you dont have, or could easily mix, in this one. Honestly, the cotman 45 half pan set is decent. I think it's more transparent than Mungyo but the Mungyo are more vibrant and reactivate easier. I bet the cotman are more lightfast tho.
Great review! But well either way I don't think I can really go too wrong with this set, seeing as I just bagged the 24 colour set for only £8 on Amazon!!
hi, i wanna buy this from aliexpress for 58 euros! but, are they good? i have a mungyo dry pastels and they are very good, and very pigmented! but has a powdery consistency! will i be contented with this? my purchase is still in the besket, awaiting for two clicks, lol
The only think they are not good for is,glazing as they have some opacity and they lift really easily. Other than that they have no problems. They are very pigmented.
Have you tried the phoenix watercolors? I’m debating between the Mungyo and Phoneix 48 set, they are both the same price. I currently have the milliang 36 color set but wanted a little upgrade but currently can’t shell out for “artist” grade like Paul Ruben’s etc
Yes I have a review on that as well but I think the meilang set is better than mungyo or pheonix so I'd stick with them and maybe purchase tubes of pro colors as you use up the pans in meilang. You can buy the colors as you use them up so you are sure to only buy useful colors.
I love your honest opein. Please Spelling was not one of my gifts from our Father in Heaven. I like that you pointed out the other paints this company makes. Thank you so much. Love Terri Simmers. But for the life of me I still can not decide on a good brand of water color paint.
Hi It may be with the jane davenport colors that did not match anything, she has colors thru peerless watercolor...which is really nice, vivid colors. 7-3-19
Hello Lindsay, I'm sorry this is kinda unrelated, but what can you tell me about Brea Reese watercolor inks? I just saw today that Hobby Lobby has these now. Are they a liquid watercolor or something else? Thanks in advance. Take care and God bless. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
Hi i wanna ask if this is good for lifting? I am beginner watercolorist but love to lift my paint, so i wanna know if this one can be good for that as well or not
I was going to buy the Shimmering Lights Palette but it was as expensive as the entire Mungyo 48 Set. It looks like some of the Shimmering Lights colors are in this set, yes or no?
Yes, you get copper, gold, silver and pearl in the Mungyo 48 set. I'd get thev48 set because the shimmering lights have so many samy colors. It's a better bet.
I think it is Mungyo. They make lots of products to white label. Look for "made in korea" on the label and it's probably them although I think they may have a watercolor factory in China as well.
I bought the 24 set and wish I had not, they are chalky and you need a lot of layers which makes the chalkiness even worse :( at least I now know what low quality paint is like, it’s taught me that at least

. Thank you so much for this video Lindsay in the end I will have saved a lot of money in purchasing this set of 48. I appreciate your videos so much, Thank you, from one of your Canadian Fan's :)
thanks!
Its 4 years later, im wondering if these are still any good
I dontbthink they've changed, and many companies use mungyo to make their watercolors, so I reck on they are still good.
Best review of these paints thank you
Wow, thank you!
Great review! But well either way I don't think I can really go too wrong with this set, seeing as I just bagged the 24 colour set for only £8 on Amazon!!
Good deal!
Hi Lindsay! Do you prefer the pretty excellent water colors over the mungyo watercolors? 😊
Yes, they are more transparent.
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich thank you, I appreciate the response 😊
Yep, this is a fun and overwhelming journey!
Couldn't you spray paint the tin to a whiter white
sure
Thanks for the magic eraser tip❤
My pleasure 😊
hi, i wanna buy this from aliexpress for 58 euros! but, are they good? i have a mungyo dry pastels and they are very good, and very pigmented! but has a powdery consistency! will i be contented with this? my purchase is still in the besket, awaiting for two clicks, lol
Hi Lindsay, Question: I like a cheap high quality watercolor that is good with glazing do you recommend "Pretty Excellent" or "Mungyo"?
Pretty excellent for sure
@@thefrugalcrafter Thanks I will get that! Btw, you are an admirable teacher I learn a lot from your comprehensive videos! :)
Lovely review Lindsey, as usual ! Have you ever tried the Meeden watercolours ? (I've searched your channel, but couldn't find anything...?) Thanks !
I've only used the ones that fan out, not the half pans.
Very nice review Lindsay!
i kinda like how cartoonie they look, i think they would be great for comics :)
Thank you so much! This was very helpful!
I wonder if Confetti set by Prima has the same colors as Mungyo?
The confetti is a different paint. I'm not sure the source.
@@thefrugalcrafter thank you! I heard formula is more creamy (Confetti) .
your spot on Lindsay I would say they fall into a students set or a very advanced crafting set. thanks for the review
thanks!
Thank You I love your product reviews
That's why we love you. (Cuz you know all the nuances of the paints)
Do you have a how to video on painting a picture for someone who can not draw at all?
check out my beginner watercolor playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLNxvOHHWCjFgUGguiJFn6wl8QByLFu2UM.html
Amazon bumped the price up to $65.99. Thanks for the review Lindsay. 💞💫
grrrr, that always happens after a review! Sorry:(
it's back to $49.99 amzn.to/2CfuIQs they must not have had takers at $65 LOL!
I love your honest opein. Please Spelling was not one of my gifts from our Father in Heaven. I like that you pointed out the other paints this company makes. Thank you so much. Love Terri Simmers. But for the life of me I still can not decide on a good brand of water color paint.
there are so many good options, it is a hard choice.
Hi
It may be with the jane davenport colors that did not match anything, she has colors thru peerless watercolor...which is really nice, vivid colors. 7-3-19
Would this be a better choice than Shinhan professional watercolor? By color and quality? What do you guys think?
Hello Lindsay, I'm sorry this is kinda unrelated, but what can you tell me about Brea Reese watercolor inks? I just saw today that Hobby Lobby has these now. Are they a liquid watercolor or something else? Thanks in advance. Take care and God bless. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
they are liquid watercolor, a dye based rather than pigment based so they will fade if exposed to sun over a long period of time
Hi i wanna ask if this is good for lifting? I am beginner watercolorist but love to lift my paint, so i wanna know if this one can be good for that as well or not
It's good for lifting, not as good for glazing.
@@thefrugalcrafter thankyou so much for the info
I was going to buy the Shimmering Lights Palette but it was as expensive as the entire Mungyo 48 Set. It looks like some of the Shimmering Lights colors are in this set, yes or no?
Yes, you get copper, gold, silver and pearl in the Mungyo 48 set. I'd get thev48 set because the shimmering lights have so many samy colors. It's a better bet.
@@thefrugalcrafter Sold! Thanks So Much!
Curious, I had assumed Mungyo was Chinese made. Prima is made in Korea. Where exactly, are the Mungyo paint's made?
Korea
What I saw er did you use for your swatching?
I used these stamps: shrsl.com/15rqd
Does anyone know the name of the parent company?Or is it actually Mungyo?
I think it is Mungyo. They make lots of products to white label. Look for "made in korea" on the label and it's probably them although I think they may have a watercolor factory in China as well.
is it comparable to winsor and newton?
Not really, Windsor and newton is more transparent, layers better and uses more lightfast pigments.
@@thefrugalcrafter would you recommend it to a beginner
where can i buy the swatching stamps ?
Waffle flower
Grazie per il video io appena gli ho comprati sono veramente belli trasparenti e vibranti e professionali!!
Brilliant work
What a wonderful informative review! TFS
I bought the 24 set and wish I had not, they are chalky and you need a lot of layers which makes the chalkiness even worse :( at least I now know what low quality paint is like, it’s taught me that at least
I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe you can refill with colors you prefer.
Are the chalky?
Not chalky but a bit on the opaque side if used thickly
Great Review💛
You just saved me ALOT of money!!!
Prime day deal today 😊
I saw! Great price!
