  • Today we're taking a look at a hidden gem from the Gibson Custom Shop, the Sheryl Crow Country Western Supreme-- a square-shouldered dreadnought with a torrified spruce top, animal hide glue, and an Amulet pickup. This guitar is similar to a Hummingbird Original, to which we are comparing it today, but just adds a few of the special features that take it over the top. Take a listen to Chris' demos and Cooper's bad jokes and see if this amazing guitar might be the one for you!

    Definitely the Sheryl Crow Signature sounds better to me. Thanks especially for the plugged in comparison.

    Thanks for reminding me of that famous Robert Duvall line, "I love the smell of _________ in the morning!" (tonewood and glue, though I always go with alfalfa, fresh cut or spread for cattle in winter, but elk like it, too). I'm waiting for my "step-up" guitar to arrive! Later this week, an Angel is landing at my door, a Cole Clark Angel 2EC-RDBL. My daughter is a little dismayed... How many guitars, Dad? Now I'll send this video link to my other daughter, whose husband has the Hummingbird on his wish list. Thanks for reviewing the Songwriter, too so I can keep him thinking... Love them both, Chris and Cooper.

    Liked the acoustic sound of both with the crow model a little better but the pickups on both not so good. Maybe because the acoustic sound is so good took away from the plugged sound. Now they are three bird models. The hummingbird dove and crow.

    Crow sounds better mic’d more open sounding, but the LR baggs sounds a lot better to my ears, it’s more natural sounding as the amulet sounds thin and quacky.

    Definetly the Country Western. More balanced because the crisper high end and the tighter Bass responce.

    There is a limited run of 300 of the Sheryl Crow Country Western Supreme. Gibson is up to about 64 currently... Personally I don't think it will make 300. I own one and I love it. Def need to EQ the pickup.. but I do like the pickup.

  • @poodmookie8549
    @poodmookie8549 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sorry to be critical, but both of these guitars sounded like crap plugged in because the recording engineer did not do any EQ on the input. They are both fine, desert island guitars, but with all built in (under saddle) pickups, you have to add bass and mids and roll off the tin at the top. They didn't do any of that here and it is a big surprise considering Alamo Music specializes in acoustic guitars. I hope they redo this video with a professional recording engineer who knows how to make things sound good (and sound good on TH-cam)

  • @reubenpasquini3841
    @reubenpasquini3841 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why does the line input sound so much worse than the mic? Is that at an artifact of the production process? Would the line-to-speaker-to-mic sound better or the same?

    • @charlesbranch4120

      TH-cam adds their own audio compression to every content provider's video, which adds an additional, and unknown cook to the broth. To really hear things well, I think I'd have to download the video, then import the file to Audacity (at the very least), to see what the audio looks and sounds like after TH-cam's done their processing. Another day, another rabbit hole...

  • @traverseaa679
    @traverseaa679 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Pretty much impossible to hear a comp when you switch from mic to line on one guitar then switch guitars. Simple editing would have gone a long way here.

    Hummingbird sweeter top end, more balanced overall. Crow sweeter mids but definite change in tone when shifting from mid to treble tones more bright top end that made me think big contrast (unbalance) between mids and treble. Crow nicer tone with strumming, hummingbird better everything else, more balanced overall. Both pickups seriously degrade tone to cheap sound, crow more so than hummingbird, definitely use mic. Can a hummingbird mate with a crow? I'd like to see that! lol

      Really, really atrocious pickup sound. Like, shameful for a $4,400 custom shop guitar. Gibson ought to be ashamed. And they wonder why they're having business problems. There are far better pickups available. To be fair, the guitar sounds really good acoustically.

    I’d rather run an electric with acoustic tone modeling than a transducer in an acoustic. The plasticity of the tone is unforgivable. My D28 has an LR Baggs Lyric and with an EQ sounds terrific. I don’t use an acoustic on loud stages, but if I did, see first statement…
