    This is our second K-Classic. We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact th-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.

    5 years ago I got a Sage grinder and Duo Temp Pro. As you predict the Duo Temp Pro has a leak and off for repairs. I did attempt to look inside but beyond a few screws the panels need plastic breaking force to move or some trick not apparent. The metal shell is held in place by bending over the metal - can't do that often for repair access. Sage have a flat basic charge covering replacement parts for features not included and that is close to the original purchase cost. A new rrp is double. They also offer a discount on a new one which is slightly better than the discounts you can see on their web site and dealers. Spending a few hundred over 5 years okay, but if that happens on a thousand or two that does get expensive. So those that do allow and support service are more affordable even with a higher initial cost.

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing! Yeh they are a pain to repair. The extra money on a more solid machine will definitely pay off in the long run but I understand how people often choke at the intial outlay.

    Hi Ryde, thanks for the great videos, I’ve learned a lot. I’m wondering if you have any thoughts on the Breville Bambino Plus, paired with a good grinder - it’s on sale for $499 AUD. I’ve seen some good reviews for it out there. I’m no expert so just looking for something under 1k that is decent and better than my mates’ Breville Barista Express 😅
    Alternatively, I found the Aldi/Stirling one 2nd hand on facebook for $200 - is that better value? I’m just worried about longevity as I saw some reviews saying small plastic parts broke and there aren’t any spare parts floating around as it’s discontinued.
    Thanks heaps!

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Liam! The Bambino regular I think is better value, all you get for $200 more on the plus is 9 colour options and an automated milk steamer which is nice but you can learn to do silky milk in 10mins. They are decent machines for the price and the grinder is more important anyway so I'd probably put the extra money towards a good Eureka Mignon or Timemore Sculptor. 👌🙌 Anything will be better than the express! 😅

    They have this exact machine (Stirling) in the USA at Best Buy for 299 after 150 off, but under the name *Bela Pro Series* I have an all in one machine I paid 750.00, not real happy overall, the convenience is nice, but I think I will go with the Gaggia Pro, its hard to beat tbh, I can get one for 399. If I am going to go for it (wifey must receive a mindbender idea from me but think its her idea) I think I will go with a Rocket Appartamento, I know it will last 20 yeas with good maintence.

  • @Iceman-xe7jo
    @Iceman-xe7jo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Gaggia is by far and a way the best deal for entry level expresso making. Fit a quality grinder with it and you can make professional quality expresso drinks at home. The durability is a key factor with a 58mm group head. For what you get all around it’s the best.

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! It's such an underrated machine. It will last you forever and always pumps out a great coffee. Totally right about a grinder, I think it's as important as the machine.

    • @saleen12
      @saleen12 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Rydecoffeecoach I disagree vehemently. It's honestly the worst entry level machine on the market and it's insanely over rated. There's an entire reddit thread about why people should stop recommending a machine that needs endless mods to be passable. Temp surfing problems and not being set at 9 bars is garbage for beginners or pros. The bambino would be 10x better for an entry level machine. The middle market is useless. Bambino for budget. Dual boiler for best value/high end jump. Decent for high end. Honestly those are the only 3 machines I care about on the market after endless research.
      Loved the video and will have to surf the rest of the channel.

    • @Iceman-xe7jo
      @Iceman-xe7jo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@saleen12 I disagree. If the Gaggia was a $1000 that would not be worth it but for the build quality and durability for $500 it’s a good buy. If you want to mod it’s that’s your choice but people have been making great expresso on it without the mods for years it’s only in this buying frenzied market that you need 20 accessories to make a good expresso. Breville’s are cheaply made and need to be replaced every few years. I know because I have had one. I don’t know much about the Decent “I have heard” they are the new thing on the block but quite honesty for $4000 I’m pretty sure I can find many other dual boilers that I can pull some great shots on.

    • @Iceman-xe7jo
      @Iceman-xe7jo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Alexander Khioe From most people that have bought the Gaggia none complain about it except select people online that are critical with every little thing about a machine. Out of the box it’s fine along with a quality grinder. It seems like we are in a mod crazy frenzy for every machine and these companies love it because they are making a killing off of people because they don’t feel their machine is “good enough”. Between accessories and the “mods” you can add an additional $400 on top of what one has already pain. Too me that’s excessive.

    • @Iceman-xe7jo
      @Iceman-xe7jo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Alexander Khioe All I’m saying even if you put an extra $50 in the Gaggia it’s still a great value. Your still $250 less than the Silvia. Your next bump is a heat exchanger for about a $1000 more.

    Hi Ryan,
    John's my name from Brisbane. Great video Ryan, plenty of info and advice, thank you.
    Today I bought the ALDI Stirling Premium Espresso Machine with Grinder. ($399) I am a complete newbie to coffee machines. I had read about and heard that the ALDI Stirling was a pretty good machine for the price. I came a cross your TH-cam channel after buying this machine.and of course listened to your comments about the Stirling coffee machine.
    The Stirling machine I have bought as mentioned does have an inbuilt grinder. Listening to your comments about inbuilt grinders in low end coffee machines, prompted me to write to you.
    Should I use the inbuilt grinder or purchase a separate coffee bean grinder?
    Once again thank you for your advice. if you get a chance, I would love to receive a reply from you.
    Cheers
    John😀

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi John! Thanks for reaching out. I want to first allay your concerns. You do not need to get a separate grinder...yet. My biggest issue with built in grinders are on more expensive machines like Breville Oracle or Lelit Kate. These machines which cost upwards of $2-4k should be stand alone machines. The issues will be there for the ALDI machine too but at $400 you should expect to get hopefully 3-5years out of it. By that time, you should be into coffee enough to warrant you taking the next step and buying a great grinder and a great machine that will both last you 20+ years or until you want to upgrade again.
      The one thing I will say is only put enough beans in for the coffees you make each day. Don't use the hopper to store beans as they will heat up from the machine and sweat away all those beautiful yummy oils. 👌
      Hope this helps!

    Ry, I've been running a Rocket Giotto for the last 5 years. It's about ~15 years old. I'm very familiar with it and it's strengths and limitations, and have torn it down to the frame and rebuilt it once before. Only mods are a grouphead thermometer and reduced OPV pressure. Would like the idea of a flow control, but then I lose grouphead temp. It's paired with a Kafatek Monolith MC4, will likely upgrade to the new Surikone burrs, but it's a fantastic grinder. I do 90% espresso brewing, and do enjoy milk based drinks alongside straight espresso. Looking at a BDB (1500 USD) and throwing all the mods at it, but beyond that, what other machine do you think I should really take a long look at around or under 2500 USD. If I get a BDB I'd probably dump it after 2 years.

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Justin, I wouldn't go with a BDB if you've had all that experience with the Giotto. I just think you might be disappointed.
      You're obviously handy enough to rebuild and mod so I would be looking at a commercial build machine like Profitec 700 which gives you mostly what you want plus a unique feature of being about to switch off the steam boiler which sounds like you might use since you only have milk occasionally. Great energy and money saver! Also, How much is the Rocket r58 there?

    • @JusBThankful
      @JusBThankful 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Rydecoffeecoach being the home barista for the family, I'll probably always be ~50/50 espresso/milk based, so I'd say both are important. R58 is $3300, Pro 700 is $3000. I keep seeing issues with the newer Rockets, including bent frames in shipping. Just not sure how well built they still are. Bianca, at $3000, seems to have the best FC knob setup, as well as the electronic slow flow mode, which puts it ahead of the E61 pack, imo, but I think ECM/Profitec may respond sooner than later given the market share the Bianca has been nabbing as of late. And I prefer the ECM/Profitec quality control and overall more cohesive design, so I'd be inclined to see what they come up with.

      In my opinion only I would stay away from the Segafredo Solis Perfetta. I think for that price range you can find some much better quality machines, or even spend a little more to get yourself the Breville Dual Boiler. I am not a huge fan of appliances as coffee machines but at least the Breville's can get a decent shot of espresso (they just don't last longer than 5 years). Is it your first home machine? If so, just start with the Breville which will allow you to easily make great coffee at home. You can then work out what you want and then upgrade your equipment in a few years. 👌

    Thanks for this great video that is relative to the Australian market. I’ve learned a lot from it. Do you know much about them?

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do love the look of the Ascaso PID but they have reliability issues and it is more difficult to service them because parts are a bit harder to get because they aren't as common. Having said that other people have had great results so I'm sure there's two sides to everything.
      My advice would be to invest more heavily in your grinder. These are the most important and will last pretty much forever if cared for. I love the Mahlkonig X54 for around $1000AUD but there's lots of different grinders from the likes of Compak, Eureka, Quamar etc. (In Australia, I'm not a big fan of the Mazzers as they don't deal with humidity well - prob good in Melbourne and Sydney though).
      If you really are wanting to invest in coffee from the get go, grab a Rocket (Giotto or dual boiler) and one of the grinder brands.i mentioned above and you'll be set for life. But I always find I end up upgrading my machine (but never/rarely my grinder). But still, you won't be unhappy with a Breville dual boiler and a smart grinder Pro. 😊
      Good luck and let me know what you decide!

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would probably get a 2 group machine for that volume especially for when it grows. A La Marzocco Gs3 can easily handle it but just having one group to work on will just slow you down too much. Even just a basic 2 group that can run on low amps will be best. I wouldn't want to do more than 20 at a time on a single group. Unless you're talking about 70 coffees over a 8-10hour day. You could get away with Gs3 but for the price you may as well get a second hand LM linea PB. You might be able to do it on San Remo cube but it's just putting unnecessary pressure on yourself and you might find you have to upgrade right away.
      If you're starting out, I would recommend a 2 group Wega.

  • @MrArdytube
    @MrArdytube 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    IMO it is worthwhile doing a rough calculation on the relative costs of the espresso hobby and how much you enjoy it.
    In our case… we do 3 per day times two… costing 70 cents each… so we are spending $4 per day on coffee only
    That is about 1460 per year on just the beans. So, in that context… it makes sense to spend 2000 on a machine that makes great coffee that we really enjoy and which machine will last nearly forever

      Thanks for letting me know! I just had a quick squiz but I was severely disappointed that they put in a grinder. 😥 It only has 15 grind settings and that's going to limit a lot of people (unless the 15 have steps in between, but I doubt it). What I loved about the old Stirling was that they focused on the machine and allowed you to invest in a great grinder.

      I actually love lever machines! Just be wary that there's a really steep learning curve and the la Pavoni is a manual lever not a spring loaded one. I would opt for a spring lever to begin with because it's just so challenging otherwise.

    • @karlhelbig6890
      @karlhelbig6890 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have la pavoni pro and love it. But it is good for one person (or two) but not for entertaining. Re the recommendation to get a sprung lever group (eg. Electra MicroCasa), I would NOT recommend that over the La Pavoni Pro. It is easier to get the grind right on the La Pavoni. There are bigger and better lever machines that might be fine with sprung group heads though.

    I did have the Lelit Victoria PL91T, but the knob in teflon it's totally garbage. Will break very easy with an hardcore use (in my home was used for like 9 cappuccino per day) and overtime, even if you make some sign for the "point 0" of the knob, you will see that every use it will need to close stronger the knob because if not, it will lose water from the steam wand. Or at least mine after 2 repair still did that. For espresso only it's great, but when you do a lot of frothing, you will be not happy at the end in my experience.

    • @Rydecoffeecoach

      Making 9 coffees per day is heavy use and I would think these machines are going to give out. I've had commercial machines where the plastic knob has broken and the solenoid is always going to need replacing as that will leak water at some point. What machine do you have now?

      I can't be sure but I thought it was a different machine. ALDI do sell another machine that you can buy all year round, this one is just one of the specials each year. I honestly can't fault it for the cheap price. Sure, if you have a budget of $1500 then you should go with the Breville dual boiler, but for $300, this Stirling kicks butt over all the Brevilles, delonghi and sunbeams up to $1k+. Also, one thing to note is that I think JH is normally referring to spros out those machines. If you're only drinking spros, I would then instead recommend a Flair or Bellman Stovetop. 🙌👌

    You did not mention the ECM Syncronica, (if that’s spelled right) about the price of the Decent. The ECM is more traditional and offers a lot of high end features. I’m not sure of the longevity of the decent, computers break down often or just become obsolete. I second the grinder video please. I’m in the process now of researching a prosumer machines with grinders. There is a lot out there but I would love to go to a store and try out a bunch of them. Eg. grind size, dose, etc. He couldnt get it dialed in at all. The only way to not choke the machine was to grind so coarse that it was impossible to get a good extraction. Go too fine (where it SHOULD be for other machines) and the machine chokes and the water gets superheated inside the thermoblock.

      It's not a false statement, it's my opinion. 🤗👌 I have had multiple Brevilles too and I'm guessing something went wrong with your machines if you've had multiple in 11 years. In my opinion, I don't rate built in grinders.
      One thing that isn't just my opinion is that your beans will heat up if the grinder is built in. That's a fact. 👌

    very difficult vidio to watch, the full almost overflowing cup of coffee took all my focus... turning off the vid, and listening to the audio only for a second listen...

      😂haha yup! I don't spill it though but hopefully you learned everything you needed from the audio. 🤞👌

      Yeh I love it but I would warn people about losing many hours each time you make a coffee. Sometimes too much information can be dangerous! Your puck preparation needs to be perfect 👌 but for those of you who want to go full Alice in Wonderland, this is the machine!

    I did not need to see this video!!! I now want a Decent coffee machine. Great video too, except couldnt stand watching you holding that coffee for so long! very distracting.

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeh I have never looked back since the Decent. Although, they are about to release a similar one: Synesso ES1 which, given the quality of my other Synesso machine, is very tempting!
      Yeh I actually think I'll stop holding the coffee because a few people said it was distracting because they thought I'd spill it. I didn't realise it was that big of a distraction! Thanks for the feedback.

    Hey dude, 15 years experience to brew a coffee with a Rancilio would easily get you a degree in brain surgery!. It's only a coffee, no need to get too excited, basic experience is all that's needed. Otherwise good video 👍

      @@Rydecoffeecoach now for some information please.
      Boiler or thermo block!
      Do you like the sunbeam torino? Has three thrno

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have to say the Torino looks good but I haven't had a chance to really experience it. I have always been a bit hesitant of sunbeam since I've had a lot to do with their other machines and grinders and I'm not a fan. Really the only coffee appliance I rate for that price is the Breville dual boiler. I would go boiler over thermoblock.

    Are you going too drink that coffee? Or is it just a prop 🤪

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both! It's a prop and I drink it at the end. Usually it's cold but it's gone in two slurps. 😅

    mr chief espresso officer you can get rid of the year "2022". these machines haven't changed in the past decade

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not really there to say these machines are new to 2022, it's more to let people know what coffee machines I'm recommending in 2022. When I do the one for 2023, there will be a lot of machines that are the same. 👌
