    About the Baratza Sette 270. You are correct that there have been issues. However, Baratza has stood behind this grinder FAR beyond the warranty period. You should know that they have upgraded a lot of the parts since the initial release in 2017. The Sette is VERY user repairable and with the two issues that I had *Baratza sent me replacement parts free of charge, 5 years after purchase*. So far I've gotten 5 years out of my Sette and expect to get at least another 5 years out of it. One more thing... I just saw a comparison between the Sette and the Eureka Mignon Specialita and the Sette's grinds had far less clumping than the Mignon. Just saying.

      Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. 👌 What country are you in? I don't know if they'd send parts to us here in Australia if it was outside the warranty period but that's great to hear they did in your case. 🙌😊

    I’ve had a Baratza Sette 270 that I’ve used daily for the last 3 or 4 years without any issues.
    And it’s both stepped and step-less. Macro steps, step-less micro adjustment.
    It’s been fantastic for me. It’s just very very noisy. And I ended up going to a single dosing work flow within 3 months of getting it.
    But I’ve never had an issue with the build quality.

    Thank you so much for this review! It's been so difficult to find out which grinder to buy as a first-time purchase for espresso! • @Rydecoffeecoach

      There aren't many GBW grinders for home but the ones I know of and recommend are the Eureka Mignon Libra, they are great little grinders with that feature. There's also baratza sette 270wi but these grinders are far less reliable than the Eureka models. There's a few others like the Coffee Tech gravimetric but I'd personally stick to the Eureka.
      Having said that, there are way more grinders if you're happy to manually dose your coffee.

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your thoughts! 🙌 I have to disagree here though, only because I live in Brisbane now which is a subtropical climate and the Mazzers are manufactured for a European drier climate so they constantly gunk up and have huge retention as well as about half way through the morning the grind size is thrown completely out of whack and I end up wasting about 300g trying to fix the shots.
      I used to have Roburs and Majors in all my cafes in Sydney but that was back in 2000 and they worked fine there (and we weren't as fussy about our shots back then) but ever since I opened cafes in Brissy, I've stayed well clear of the Mazzers.
      Although, I can't say I've had much to do with the latest models and apparently they've improved them but with the San Remos, Compaks, Mythos, and Mahlkonigs and a plethora of other great grinders, I haven't been back to Mazzer. Maybe if they loan me a few to try they can convince me otherwise. 👌

    • @stoicar
      @stoicar ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Rydecoffeecoach if you will compare k43 old design you need to mod a lot of that grinder. So to compare old mazzer with new ek43 is not really fair. And if you like that allground so much and you don’t know that is a mazzer older design is a shame

      Fair point, although I also have an old Ek43 from early 2000s and still going strong and so I'm comparing like for like there. Hi Ryd, I know you said in the video that you couldn’t recommend the Baratza Sette 270Wi, but I’ve done extensive research, read review after review and quite frankly, I haven’t found a more capable or easier to clean and maintain espresso grinder to replace my Breville smart pro when it finally dies (6 & 1/2 years and still going strong) What attracts me to the Baratza Sette 270Wi is the accuracy of minimal grind retention and pure ease of maintenance; I.e. I reckon that it would be easier to maintain than my current Breville, so because I don’t fancy stuffing around with wrenches and screw drivers merely to clean the burs, is there any other grinder on the market I should be looking at?

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fellow Opus is out now and although I haven't received my 240v version to really test it out, it looks like a killer to both the Breville and the Baratza at that price point.
      I'm probably a little harsh on the Sette 270wi because I think they charge a lot for the small benefit of weight, and I've had a few incidents where they've died within 2 years, but such is the risk with appliance models. I guess what I mean is, if you invest a bit more in something like a Eureka mignon or a prosumer/commercial grinder, they should last you forever.

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for reaching out Carlos! I would try a few things before you invest in a new grinder (although it will definitely be better and you should have a separate grinder for many reasons).
      I would make sure your coffee is well roasted and high quality for starters. This makes all the difference. You can usually get a good coffee on any machine if you start with great coffee beans. They should be medium roast, roasted within 14 days ago, and specialty coffee (graded 80+).
      After you have sourced great coffee, try to measure the weight in and out (cheap scales that go down to 1g is fine) then you can start to eliminate the issues. If your shot is gushing through in under 20 seconds, you need to fine up the grind. If its taking more than 35 seconds you can coarsen it a bit.
      If your grinder is still not getting fine enough you can calibrate them usually.
      These are simple fixes that can easily improve the flavour before you need to really worry about a new grinder.
      I have lots of videos on my channel that will guide you through getting the right extraction. Enjoy!
