I genuinely believe this is one of the greatest things to have ever been recorded. All of incredible artists collaborating together at the absolute pinnacle of their creative modus operandi.
Unless it's frozen into ice. Glaciers are amazing are the most powerful form of geological formation and erosion. They carve out vallies, tame seas, and split mountains. Just an insane, but consistent amount of weight and preasure slowly moving over thousands of years.
Open your mouth wide A universal sigh And while the ocean blooms It's what keeps me alive So why does this still hurt? Don't blow your mind with why I'm moving out of orbit Turning in somersaults A giant turtle's eyes And jellyfish float by
This song emits a happy kind of sadness if you get what I mean, most Radiohead works do that for me. It sounds pretty sad and is about sad things while at the same time being a beacon of hope
Everyone should listen to this song in front of the sea, feeling the wind, the smell, eyes closed... it's soooo intense... so wonderful... really sublime...
I had this rolling around in my head for years, thinking I should make a compilation of all the beautiful things I saw in the mountains with this as the soundtrack. After 4 years I thought I had enough footage to do it justice, so I made one. Worked perfectly.
I still use this song to test out new speakers/headphones. Only song out there with such depth of tones and notes. Absolutely love it. I doubt I’ll ever find a better ‘test’ song. Bravo!
At the end of this song, I imagine myself being leting go, being drag deeper and deeper into the ocen, and I felt a peace, I've felt very few times in my life
Mesmerizing. We need to be grateful with our lives and our planet. Hanz, Thom and Earth still alive and it's more than a pleasure to have them still breathing and together.
Can I submerge myself in music for eternity, everlasting, even if my own life will end? And swim in endless waters until my soul is released into a heaven of the deepest blue?
Sam Berghuis Hm. I'm definitely not looked upon as normal by my peers. Special is a word with two meanings, one with a positive connotation, one with a negative. I'm not sure which you mean. If you intended it to be taken positively, thank you! Everyone is in some way. If not then I'll laugh because it's humorous statement. I like this song a lot.
I definetely meant it in a positive way! And, you described exactly my feelings when i listen to this music (so thanksalot for that!) Maybe i am a bit 'strange' myself ;-) Your nickname '1 of 8 billion' has the same pun: it can be taken as 'just another one', or as 'one of a kind' (which i prefer). I think this planet certainly would be a less nice place without you! I feel sorry for your peers that they seem not be able to look beyond you being 'not normal'... they miss a lot, i think. And then- what is 'normal'? The philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti once said: 'There is nothing healthy about being well adjusted to a profoundly sick society'. That makes one think...
Sam Berghuis Thank you for the compliment! I enjoy words. I'm glad I was able to put this song's mood into words. Just because my peers think me abnormal, does not mean I feel bad about my uniqueness. Seeing as you also think quite deeply, I'm guessing you stray from the crowd as well. Nothing was ever accomplished by a person who follows the crowd. It is up to the strange or different people to change the world. Many are different, many here are different, the seperating factor is the minority of the different who build off of their difference. I believe normal exists. It is a set of general actions created by what is socially acceptable and commonly seen. Everyone struggles to find their place in the world, thus creating a norm for the lost to conform to. For the most part, all of us are linked. Through the natural needs and wants of humanity, and the primal archetypes introduced by Carl Jung. There is no escaping that, it is our biological identity, the essence of humanity. Which is why taking control of variation in the parts of life you can control is so very important. I am "1 of 8 billion" because I'm part of the human race, just as every other in the 8 billion is. But I wanted to make a distinction. Not I, nor anyone else is the 8 billion alone. The whole is made up of dependant and moving parts, it is through variation that the influence and the power of the 8 billion grows.
The way the cello compliments the vocals, like brushstrokes on a canvas, you actually feel one with the ocean and the earth when you hear this. It’s as if, for one single moment, nothing else matters except the breeze and the silence of the ocean, the heavens opening above and the lightning like veins and thistles spawning thunderous cries that echo and roar above, it’s as if you’re being embraced by the melody and then cut by the changes in timbre so tragically all at once, enigmatic...yet if you close your eyes and let this composition pull you under, everything changes for 5 minutes and 15 seconds. I suppose music makes us feel and experience emotions in very different ways, but for me, this is like a rhapsody of the ocean and the earth in tandem, it’s diverse in musicality and almost presents a current and a flow underwater, like you’re sailing and drowning at the same time. I wonder if, somehow, in some paradox, Mother Nature could sing and make a composition like this, if that melody would be desperate and melancholic, or peaceful and happy? That’s how deeply this piece of music affects me.
This brings tears to my eyes. I feel like the part of me that’s felt depressed and given in to fear and self-limiting beliefs for so long, the part of me that was just barely treading water, is sinking down into the abyss. I see myself gazing up at the sun through the water, and I know I need to let certain things go to be able to float back to the surface. It’s like some version of myself is dying. The weight sinks down into the deep, a burial at sea. And then I wash up onto the shore of myself. It feels like being born, or giving birth. Like Odysseus returning and reclaiming his kingdom after many trials at sea. I’m reclaiming myself.
Thome York, please take take of yourself, alot of people from this generation do not understand this legend, He's valuable person for us he gave meaning to our childhood, his voice gives me goosebumps with these emotional songs, if we lose him, I'll cry alot.
this masterpiece is taking you by the hand through the experience of diving back into the inner frequency of universal love... that kinda feeling for me 💜

Why has this never been officially released? This is absolutely beautiful. I really want to buy this or at least get the official release if the band and Zimmer ever do a free DL. It's a travesty that this hasn't been made more available.
It seems that Thom can always walk the fine tightrope line where joy and sadness meet, the solemn mystical awe that one feels when one experiences birth, death, a miracle, bliss, an encounter with the Divine. It's this space where we find a paradoxical knowing that we are both infinitely small and insignificant yet integrally one with the vastness of the universe.
"I came up from the dark without you and every day has been in shadow. I have begged the tide to wash away my sin and take me to you in the dark but every day I surface again."
It takes really high-end audio equipment to do this justice. Like so much of Hans Zimmer's work, it really gives speakers a workout. With great speakers, you will hear new facets.

They made one of the most unique soundtrack pieces out there, fit to be an anthem of our planet and then never released it... Saddest decision of the Blue Planet production they could ever make.
We all come from the sea, but we are not all of the sea... Those of us who are, we children of the tide must return to it again and again, until we no longer return.

What I love about Radiohead is that they produce music to be music, not hits or anthems or anything, just for the music.
